Boston College at Notre Dame College Football Lines

Expect the unusual when these two Catholic heavyweights face off against each other. After a brief break in 2005 and 2006, Notre Dame and Boston College renewed their rivalry in 2007 with BC winning 27-14. 2008 saw BC’s defense man handle the Fighting Irish in a 17-0 victory in which BC was actually out gained by the Irish 292 to 246. Jimmy Clausen and the 4-2 Irish will look to snap a six game losing streak against the 5-2 Eagles. Boston College enters the game coming off of their most impressive performance of the year in a 52-20 beat down of conference foe North Carolina State. Notre Dame will have to regroup after suffering another disappointing loss to rival USC after a last second pass attempt was incomplete to tie the game. The Fighting Irish are listed as 8 point favorites according to the most recent NCAA football lines.
Most experts pegged Boston College to finish at or near the bottom of the ACC Atlantic division but with a 3-2 conference record they currently sit atop the division. The Eagles have benefited from the development of 25 year old freshman QB Dave Shinskie. The former pro baseball player has taken over the starting position and thrown for 815 yards with nine touchdowns and only four interceptions. RB Montel Harris has emerged as one of the top backs in the ACC after his 264 yard five touchdown performance against NC State last week. The Sophomore scat back has gained almost 500 yards in his last three outings and has found the end zone seven times. BC is a team predicated on the run, but All Conference WR Rich Gunnell has done admirable work in the receiving game by catching 22 balls in which three have gone for scores. This team has been hard to read all season long. When they are bad, like their 48-14 loss at Virginia Tech, the game can get out of hand real quickly. Both losses have came on the road by an average of 26 points and this will be their third road trip of the season. Charlie Weis’s leash continues to get shorter after an eighth straight loss to USC. The Irish appear to be heading towards improving on their 7-6 record a year ago, but critics still claim that Weis is unable to win the big game. QB Jimmy Clausen has done his part, throwing for 1804 yards and 14 touchdowns against just two interceptions. His main target has been junior WR Golden Tate who has become the Notre Dame’s biggest playmaker. Tate has caught 41 balls for 719 yards and six scores making himself a real possibility for postseason awards. TE Kyle Rudolph has taken over as the second receiver Clausen looks for in their electric aerial attack. With all the offensive fire power comes a defense that is giving up over 25 points per game under coordinator Jon Tenuta. SS Kyle McCarthy has been one of the lone bright sports as he has totaled 54 tackles and picked off three passes.
For some reason or another, Boston College has Notre Dame’s number recently. Eight is a fairly large number for a rivalry game like this, but BC has proven that they are a different team on the road and not in a good way. Notre Dame seems to play close games no matter who the opponent is and does not have the ability to put the opposition away. Play: Boston College +8
