Bowling Green at Michigan

No.21 Michigan had a bit of a scare this past weekend against Massachusetts, as they barely held on for a 42-37 win at home. With the win the Wolverines improved to 3-0 on the season. This week Michigan will conclude their non-conference portion of the schedule with a home game against theĀ  Bowling Green Falcons. If you are interested in making a wager on this game, the current odds have the Wolverines favored by 24.5-points over the Falcons at home.

Bowling Green (1-2): After two road losses to start the season, the Falcons put together a strong performance at home to beat Marshall 44-28. The star of the game was running back Willie Geter, who carried the ball 31 times for 100 yards, and also led the Falcons with five catches for 86 yards in the passing game. Geter figures to be a huge part of the offense again this week against Michigan, as he will try an take advantage of a defense that gave up 217 rushing yards to Massachusetts.

Quarterback Matt Schilz also had a strong game against the Thundering Herd, completing 19 of 25 passes for 181 yards and a score. Schilz also had a rushing touchdown in the win, his third of the season. While Geter will be the focus of the offense against the Wolverines, Schilz has to play well if the Falcons are going to keep the game close.

Michigan (3-0): Quarterback Denard Robinson played a huge role once again for the Wolverines in their win over Massachusetts, as he threw for 241 yards and two touchdowns on 10 of 14 passing, and added another 104 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Without Robinson it is hard to imagine where the Wolverines would be this season, as he comes into the game this weekend against Bowling Green averaging 223 passing yards and 186 rushing yards a game.

Robinson got a little help in the running game last week, as running back Michael Shaw racked up 126 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries. It was the first time this season that a running back ran for more than a 100 yards and the first time a running back led the team in rushing. The Wolverines also got a nice performance out of wide out Darryl Stonum, who had three catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns.

Looking at the Odds: After allowing just 10 points to Connecticut in the first game of the season, the Wolverines defense has allowed 61 points in the last two games, and that is the big reason why I am taking Bowling Green to cover the 24.5 point spread this weekend. I have no doubt that the Wolverines will find a way to win this game, but I think it is going to be much closer than the oddsmakers have projected. My final score prediction is Michigan 41, Bowling Green 23.
