Brett Favre Predictions 2008

Written August 8, 2008 by Jack Jones

On Wednesday night a very important trade happened in the NFL which will have a lot of impact on the entire league. Brett Favre will now be wearing green and white as he will be manning the offense with the New York Jets. He was with the Green Bay Packers for 16 seasons and is very iconic to their team. It is not quite sure when the 3 time MVP will be ready to play but it will have to be soon. Favre is a little out of shape and will have to prepare himself for the new season. He will now be part of a Jets team that was absolutely terrible last season going 4-12. New York will look for Favre to lead them to the post season and a lot of pressure rests on his shoulders. With this said there are some player prop bets out their involving Favre and I am going to discuss the ones I feel can be profitable.

First off I would like to look at some of the numbers that Favre managed to put up last season playing with the Packers. He had close to 4200 passing yards to go along with 28 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Favre also played the entire 16 game schedule and had a completion rating of 66.5%. Let’s now take a look at the prop bets out there:

1. Over/Under 3850 passing yards – This number may prove to be just a bit high as Favre will still be trying to learn the new system of the Jets. He is coming off of one of the best seasons of his career in terms of passing yards, but it will be rather hard to match this with a new team full of less talented players. Favre has managed to break the 3850 mark in his last 4 seasons playing with the Packers and is averaging about 3853 passing yards per season. There may be some value here with the under as I feel he will just be to worn out.

2. Over/Under 25.5 passing touchdowns – Again, I feel that this total is a little bit high. Favre is going to have Laveranues Coles and Jerrico Cotchery as his primary targets in New York. These guys are good but won’t be enough to help Favre get over this total. Coles had 646 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns last season. Cotchery has more yards with 1130 but only managed to put up 2 touchdowns. Also, the Jets as a combined team last season only managed to score 15 touchdowns. Favre has averaged about 27 touchdowns per year in his career. It is going to be very hard for Favre to just step in and lead this team so I feel he will not reach over 25.5 td passes.

3. Over/Under 15.5 interceptions – I feel very confident about the over on this prop bet. Favre has been known for throwing a lot of interceptions over his career. In his 16 seasons with the Packers he has only thrown less than 15 interceptions 4 times. Also Favre has thrown over 20 picks in 5 of his 16 seasons. On average he throws for 18 interceptions per season so I feel that there is a lot of value here with the over 15.5 and is a sure money maker.
