Baseball Picks: Milwaukee Brewers at Houston Astros
Written April 25, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz
The Brewers are 7-9 on the season and are coming off a 5-2 win last night at Houston. The Brew Crew have now put together a nice three-game winning streak, which was something they needed in bad way. After starting the season 4-9, Milwaukee looked very weak. The Pitching, both starting rotation and bullpen, were getting rocked while their hitting wasn’t much better at all. Prince Fielder continues his horrific start as he is now hitting a whopping .196 on the year. Mike Cameron and Ryan Braun are the only two starters that are hitting .300 or above. The two are also tied for the team lead in home runs with four each. The one major thing that this team has going for them is the belief in one another. Team chemistry and trust is a must with this team. All the positive tools the Brewers possess will be needed tonight as Jeff Suppan takes the mound. This guy is a human batting practice machine that to me is known as “Mr. Meatball”. The aging veteran has started three games so far this year. He has pitched into the 5th inning in only one of those starts. He is 1-2 with a comical 8.56 ERA on the year. Not only does he struggle with left handed hitters, he will be pitching in a sandbox like stadium. So, if these stats by Suppan aren’t encouraging enough, here’s another to mull over. In his only start last year against the Astros, he went 6 innings, allowing 8 runs on 11 hits as Houston hit .423 off him. The key for the Crew in this game will be Rickie Weeks. The lead off man will be counted on to stir havoc on the base paths as the more Hampton works, the quicker he will exit. Today’s MLB odds have the Astros -120 against Milwaukee and the Over/Under set for 9.5 runs.
The Houston Astros are 6-11 this season and are, well, just bad. This is a team with no specific strength. They have two power hitters who are both average fielders in Lance Berkman and Carlos Lee. They have little speed, poor fielding statistics and a rotation that spells out, Roy Oswalt. Hunter Pence is the single bright spot on this team looking into the future. Now, when you are a struggling team searching for life, facing Jeff Suppan is a great prescription to right up. If the Astros don’t get rolling tonight with the bats, then I’m clueless on when they plan to start. With the Suppan bashing out of the way, the Astros send another in-consistent and often injury prone pitcher to the mound in Mike Hampton. However, this year Hampton has looked like his old self. Through three starts he is 1-1 with a solid 3.12 ERA. Considering his shortened season last year and his complete absence during the 2007 season, Hampton has no current experience against this Milwaukee team. I think that will hurt him tonight as he is running into a team that is playing well right now and will field one of the hottest hitters over the past week in Ryan Braun. Runs will be scored in bunches as both pitchers will struggle. Berkman will tee up off Suppan as I expect Prince to break out tonight against Hampton. Notes below.
Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Brewers are 2-7 in Suppan’s last nine starts. The Brewers are 9-4 in the last 13 meetings between these two teams. In the last eight Saturday games in Houston, the OVER is 6-2. The Astros are very rarely favored in a game. However, when they are the favorite they are 20-8 over their past 28 games. This is our ONE BEST BET, PREMIUM PLAY OF THE NIGHT. We are going to take the OVER 9.5 runs in this game. I like this pick so much I’m not touching anything else. The only question is, will the OVER be hit by the end of the 5th innings? Lets rock.
Jordan’s Pick: Milwaukee Brewers/Houston Astros OVER 9.5 Runs
Mr. Money, how does everybody feel about that as a new nickname for Jordan’s Picks? Nah, but on a serious note we are flying high coming off yet another night where we sweep the board. The BEST BET was a nice cool breeze as the Rays dominated just as I said they would. I believe one of my lines were, “The only question is will the Rays hit the OVER themselves”, well they came close winning 8-2 over the A’s. That covered the Rays win and OVER 8 runs. The Nation laughed last as Jason Bay launched a two run jack off Mariano Rivera with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. Youkilis then smashed the walk off homer in the 11th inning as the Red Sox celebrated their come from behind win as that capped off our 3-0 night. Fellas, If you haven’t been cashing in with my FREE picks every day, I’d think now would be the time to start. Remember, any questions, comments or requests on games upcoming for me to pick I would love to here. Feedback is most important not only for myself but bet firms as a whole. This is one Saturday Special. A simple closing line tonight. Let’s go make some money.
Documented MLB Record:
30-11 OVERALL
11-3 BEST BET (last nights registered BEST BET was Rays/A’s OVER 8 Runs. Final Score was Rays 8 A’s 2)
