Denver Broncos Add Former New England Patriot Jarvis Green
Written March 9, 2010 by Jason Lowry
The Denver Broncos needed to add some depth to a defensive line that really struggled down the stretch, and according to sources at ESPN the Broncos have done just that. On Tuesday the Broncos signed veteran defensive end Jarvis Green to a four-year deal worth up to $20 million. The 31-year-old Green has spent the last eight seasons with the New England Patriots.
The Broncos just switched over to the 3-4 defense last season, and while it produced significant improvements from the year before, it seemed as though they tired out towards the end of the season. There are many that believe that Green is not ready to be a starter, but can be a very effective pass rusher in limited action.
While I think this helps the Broncos NFL odds for 2010, I don’t think it is enough to sure up the defensive line. I look for this team to add another player or two via the NFL draft. Depending on what happens with Brandon Marshall, the Broncos could have another pick in the first round to use on the defensive line, and this unit could make a much quicker improvement than some might think.
