Denver Broncos vs. Cleveland Browns NFL Betting Odds & Spread

Written November 4, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Editors Note: Jason Lowry has the winner picked out and ready to go, as his NFL 5 STAR GAME OF THE WEEK goes on this one.

The NFL is back on Thursday nights, and what better way to remind us of Thanksgiving coming than the NFL on Thursdays in November. So this Thursday when the Denver Broncos travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns, get ready for your week to get a little bit better. Now both these teams have been a disappointment of late, as both teams suffered a loss last week, but there is still hope these teams can get together and find their way in the playoffs. The oddsmakers are taking the Browns in this one, as Cleveland comes in 3 point favorites over Denver at Bookmaker.com

What looked like a promising start to the season, has quickly faded as the Broncos have lost 3 straight, and injuries continue to pile up for this team. Jay Cutler continues to make mistakes, and he had 3 big interceptions against the Dolphins. Now Cutler did throw for 307 yards and 2 scores. Cutler and receiver Brandon Marshall were off again, as the combo hooked up just 2 times for 27 yards. Marshall hasn’t caught a touchdown pass in 4 games, and you have to wonder when are they going to get back on the same page. The Broncos put on one of the worst rushing performance we have seen rushing 12 times for 14 yards. If this offense can’t do any better than that on the ground, defenses are going to continue to sit back and pick off Cutler.

The Broncos defense surprising did a good job against the run, giving up just 75 yards and a score, considering some of the totals other teams have put against this unit. They gave up 281 yards through the air, and you have to think the defense actually played well enough to win this game, as one of Cutlers interceptions got ran back for a touchdown. They only gave up 1 TD to Brown on the ground, so if this unit can play like that this week, they got a good shot at winning this week. Bet Broncos +3 at Bookmaker.com

Get ready Browns fans, as your future is about to step on the field this week, as the Browns have announced Brady Quinn will be the teams starting quarterback. Thats saying a lot with the team going into his first start on shorts week work to prepare for the other team. The thing is Quinn could be just what this Browns offense needs to make a run into the playoffs. Last week the Browns gave up a 14 point lead, and the offense stalled in the 4th quarter when it matter most. Anderson never really got that same hookup he had last year with receivers like Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow, and what really led to Quinn getting the starting job this week. Its hard to predict what is going to happen with Quinn, but we say this guy has a pretty good showing at home against a beat up Broncos team that is without star corner Champ Bailey.

The Browns defense really had a let down last week, as they let the Ravens put up 37 points, and 17 big ones in the 4th quarter when the team really needed this unit to step up. Now this Browns team gets a Broncos team that has shown it can put points on the board, but they haven’t put numbers up in weeks. Shutting down the run game and keeping Cutler and Marshall from hooking up seems to be the key to beating this team. Expect the Browns to be fired up for this one, as they seem to play just a little better with the Dog Pound at their back. Bet Browns -3 at Bookmaker.com
