Denver Broncos at Baltimore Ravens NFL Odds
Written October 30, 2009 by Rock Henderson
The Denver Broncos will look to keep their perfect record in tact when they make the long trip to Baltimore to take on the 3-3 Ravens. It isn’t necessarily a must win situation for Ray Lewis and company, but it would be Baltimore’s fourth loss in a row and put them behind the eight ball when it comes to playoff talk. Denver continues to prove doubters wrong as they have won in tough places on the road and defended their home turf. Both teams have had a full two weeks to prepare for this match-up so expect a very physical game with the extra time to get healthy. Baltimore is listed as a 3 point favorite according to our NFL betting lines and the total is set at 41.5.
Much of the success of this Denver team can be attributed to the consistent play of QB Kyle Orton and the leadership of first year coach Josh McDaniels. Orton has definitely proved that he belongs as a starter in the NFL by throwing for 1465 yards and nine touchdowns against just one interception in six games. He is completing almost 64% of his passes and has a QB rating over 100. Is it too early to say that Denver got the better end of the Cuter/Orton trade? Denver’s offense is not just one dimensional though, as rookie RB Knowshon Moreno has accumulated 381 yards on the ground, but is only averaging 3.8 yards per carry. Backup Correll Buckhalter is finally healthy and will provide a nice section option in the running game. WR Brandon Marshall is playing at a Pro Bowl level once again with his 29 catches for 332 yards and four touchdowns. The defensive side of the ball has been one of the most improved units in 2009 as they are first in points allowed and third against the run. Opponents have found the goal line an average of only once per game and Denver’s D has been especially stingy in the second half. A loss Sunday could possibly put the Ravens two games behind both the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers. Second year QB Joe Flacco has been asked to carry much more of the load this season and his numbers reflect that. The kid out of Delaware has thrown for 1674 yards and 11 touchdowns with five interceptions. Flacco’s production along with the emergence of second year back Ray Rice has to give the Ravens faithful much to be optimistic about for the future. Rice leads the time in receiving and rushing. He has gone absolutely nuts in his past few games and has taken over the starting position from veteran back Willis McGahee. While Rice is averaging six yards per carry and has gained 441 yards, he has been just as productive in the passing game out of the backfield. The loss of defensive coordinator Rex Ryan seems to be taking its toll on the usually tough Ravens defense. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are still the anchors of the D, but they have given up over 25 points four times in six games.
The direction that the Ravens go in for the rest of the year hinges on this one game. Win and you build momentum for the remaining nine games. Lose and fans are asking how this team is capable of losing four straight. Denver has to slip up at some point and this is the game they do so. Orton will be forced into a couple turnovers and Baltimore will get the cover. Play: Ravens -3
