Broncos Titans Line

The Tennessee Titans are set to host the Denver Broncos in a battle between two 1-1 teams. The Titans stunned the Baltimore Ravens 26-13 at home for their first win of the season, while the Broncos edged out Cincinnati 24-22. This is rematch of last year’s week 4 showdown in Tennessee, a game in which Denver won 26-20. However, these are two completely different teams with new head coaches from a year ago.
Looking at the week 3 NFL odds, oddsmakers have the Titans favored by 7-points over the Broncos with the total set at 42.5 points.
Denver Broncos:
The Broncos really played a solid game against the Bengals to get on the board with their first win under new head coach John Fox. What really made the win impressive was the fact that Denver was without numerous starters. They didn’t have running back Knowshon Moreno, wide out Brandon Lloyd, defensive end Elvis Dumervil, corner Champ Bailey, and linebacker D.J. Williams. Bailey is the only one of the five that wasn’t back at practice this week, but there is still a chance he will be ready to go on Sunday.
Kyle Orton didn’t have a huge day at the office against the Bengals, completing just 15 of 25 for 195 yards, but he did throw for two touchdowns and didn’t turn the ball over. Orton has been hearing it from fans who want Denver to start Tim Tebow at quarterback.
The two players that really stepped up offensively were backup running back Willis McGahee and second-year wide out Eric Decker. McGahee rushed 28 times for 101 yards and a touchdown, while Decker caught five passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns. It will be important that Lloyd be able to play this week, as the Broncos lost Eddie Royal to a groin injury and aren’t sure if Demaryius Thomas will be ready to go.
Without Dummervil, Bailey, and Williams, the Broncos defense did just enough to keep Cincinnati from winning the game. The biggest difference maker was the Bengals had to settle for three field goals, as they actually outgained Denver 382 to 318 in total yards. The Broncos could definitely use Bailey for Tennessee wide out Kenny Britt, but getting Dummervil and Williams back will make a big difference in stopping the Titans ground game.
Tennessee Titans:
Not a lot of people were talking about the Titans move to sign veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, but a lot of people are taking notice after Hasselbeck threw for 358 yards and a touchdown against the stingy Ravens defense. With star running back Chris Johnson not quite in game-shape, the Titans have had to rely heavily on Hasselbeck the first two games.
Johnson hasn’t been a factor at all over the first two games. He had just 49 yards of total offense in week 1 against the Jaguars and only 65 yards against the Ravens despite a much larger workload. Backup running back Javon Ringer made good work of his five carries, rushing for 21 yards and a touchdown.
Hasselbeck has had a lot of success throwing the ball to Britt and Nate Washington. Britt has caught 14 passes for 271 yards and three scores, while Washington has hauled in 13 receptions for 166 yards.
While the offense is getting a lot of praise after scoring 26 points on the Ravens, the defense deserves a lot of credit for how they have played over the first two games. They held Baltimore to just 229 yards of total offense just one week after they put up 35 points and 385 yards of offense against the Steelers defense.
Betting Trends:
Denver is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games.
Tennessee is just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games as a favorite of 3.5-10.0.
