Buffalo vs. Akron Football Betting Odds & Spread

Written November 11, 2008 by Jason Lowry

The MAC is in full force this week, as they have 4 games scheduled before play this Saturday. On Thursday the Akron Zips will host the Buffalo Bulls for 1st place in the East division. Both teams are coming off a win last week, as Akron beat Toledo 47-30 and Buffalo killed Miami(Ohio) 37-17. It’s likely the oddsmakers are just going with the home team in this one, as Akron comes in just 2.5 point favorites over Buffalo at BetUS.com

Buffalo comes into this one winners of 3 straight, and will look for just their second win on the road this season. The Bulls last week scored in every quarter, as they racked up 476 yards of total offense. Quarterback Drew Willy threw it well, as he had 245 yards and 2 scores, plus a 1 yard touchdown run in the 1st quarter to get the Bulls on the board first. The running game had it going as well, as James Starks ran it 26 times for 177 yards and the Bulls final 2 touchdowns. This should be a great game, as we expect both teams to put some points on the board.

The Bulls defense will have to put together another strong performance if they want to walk away winners this week, as they really did a good job keeping Miami from putting points on the board last week. The Bulls helped their cause with 2 fumble recoveries, and could really use a win in the turnover battle this week. Bet Buffalo +2.5 at BetUS.com

Akron comes into this one really clicking on offense as they have scored 30 or more in 4 straight games, and 89 points in their last two outings, that went for wins. The Zips had plenty of action on offense last week, as they had 458 total yards of offense, as running back Dennis Kennedy had 30 carries for 153 yards and a score. Also getting in on the action in the run game was Andrew Johnson who had just 7 carries for 54 yards including a 33 yard run that really put Akron up for good in the 4th quarter. The Zips also got some solid play out of quarterback Chris Jacquemain who had 226 yards passing with passes going for scores. This offense will need to have another big week, as a shootout is likely in store this week.

The Zips defense did give up some yards and plenty of points, but they also put some points on the board for the offense, as Aarion Williams scooped up a block punt in the endzone, and Shawn Lemon returned an extra point back for a score as well. The defense also added an interception, so there is no question this defense has the ability to make the big plays. The Zips were pretty good against the run, allowing just 93 yards on 25 attempts, but will have to bring their “A” game if they don’t want this one to come down to the final minutes.
