2011 Buffalo Bills Schedule

Written by

The Buffalo Bills weren’t expected to make the playoffs last year, and their hopes of a surprise season were quickly erased after an 0-8 start. They did turn things around with a 4-4 finish, but this is still a team with a long ways to go before they compete for a division title in the loaded AFC East. One area the Bills could see improvement is against the run, as they used the No. 3 pick in the draft on defensive tackle Marcell Dareus. Buffalo was dead last in the NFL against the run last year, allowing just under 170 yards a game.

Let’s take a closer look at who the Bills 2011-12 schedule to get a better idea of where this team might be headed this season. Outside of their six division games against the New England Patriots, New York Jets, and Miami Dolphins, Buffalo will take on the NFC East, AFC West, Cincinnati Bengals, and Tennessee Titans.

Playing in the AFC East is no easy task, as the Patriots and Jets have been two of the top teams in all over football the last couple years. Buffalo went 0-4 against these two teams last year, and it would be a complete shock if they managed a win against either of these teams this season. The Bills did manage to split their season series with the Dolphins, winning late in the year at Miami after falling to the Dolphins in week 1. I think it would be a safe bet that these two teams have a good shot at splitting once again in 2011.

The NFC East wasn’t exactly the division everyone expected in 2010 with the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins both finishing 6-10. While the Cowboys appear to be a lock to turn things around, you have to think that Washington will also be better in the second year under head coach Mike Shanahan. Buffalo will be underdogs in both road games against the Cowboys and New York Giants and also at home against the Philadelphia Eagles. Their home game against the Redskins is likely their best bet to grab a win against this division.

Buffalo could sneak a couple wins out of their four games against the AFC West. They likely don’t have much of a chance on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Charges, but if this team plays like it did in the final eight games of last year, they figure to have a legit shot at home against both the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos.

In the Bills two conference games against the Bengals and Titans I think they could grab a win against either team, but it won’t be easy. Buffalo beat the Bengals 49-31 at Cincinnati last year, but it’s hard to see them repeating that performance on the road again in 2011. Depending on who is the starting quarterback for the Titans I could see this as a possible spot for a win, but stopping Chris Johnson will be no easy task.
