Buffalo at Ohio

This Thursday the Buffalo Bulls will go on the road to take on the Ohio Bobcats in Mid-American Conference play. The Bulls have just two wins on the season and come into the game on a three game losing streak.Last week Buffalo lost 21-9 at home against Miami of Ohio. The Bobcats have won five straight, including four in a row in conference play. Last week they were able to hold off Louisiana-Lafayette 38-31 at home. If you are thinking about betting on the game, the current college football odds have the Bobcats favored by 14-points over the Bulls at home.
Buffalo (2-6, 1-3 MAC): The Bulls are one of the worst offensive teams in the country this season, averaging just under 15 points a game. Only three times this season have they score more than 20 points. In their last three games they have managed just 23 points.
Quarterback Jerry Davis has provided most of the Bulls offense this season, throwing for 12 of the Bulls 14 offensive touchdowns, but it’s not as if he is having a great season. Davis comes in completing just over 45% of his passes and has 12 interceptions to match his touchdown mark.
The running game has been a non-factor all season for Buffalo, scoring just two times. 303 of the Bulls 978 rushing yards have came from the quarterback position. Brandon Oliver leads the team with 265 yards, but is averaging just 2.8 yards per carry. Sophomore Jeffvon Gill is second on the team with 239 yards, but has a much better average at 5 yards a carry. The problem is Buffalo continues to find itself down early, forcing them to abandon the running game.
The defense comes in allowing just under 30 points a game, but has really struggled the past few weeks, allowing 107 points in their last three games. Unless the offense finds a way to start moving the ball and keeps the defense fresh, the Bulls are going to continue to give up a ton of points to strong offensive teams.
Ohio (6-3, 4-1 MAC): The Bobcats have really turned things around since starting the season 1-3. Ohio offense has really came alive, scoring an average of 38 points a game during their five game winning streak. In their last game against Louisiana-Lafayette the Bobcats trailed 17-10 early in the third quarter, but Ohio went on a 28-7 run to secure the win.
Quarterback Boo Jackson completed 16 of 22 passes for a season-high 240 yards and three touchdowns, and ran for 74 yards and a score, but four of his failed passes were intercepted. It was the second time this season Jackson has thrown 3 or more interceptions in a game. Jackson has scored five rushing touchdown in the last three games, he had just 1 in the Bobcats first six games. Ohio is going to need another strong performance from Boo this week if they are going to take care of business against Buffalo.
Looking at the Odds: I believe you have to give the points and take Ohio to cover the 14-point spread in this game. Buffalo just doesn’t have the offense to keep up with the Bobcats in this game. The Bulls are just 2-6 ATS this season, while the Bobcats have been covering machines, going 6-3 ATS this season. Ohio is 6-1 at home against Buffalo, and I think the odds are in your favor that they not only win this game but win big. My final score prediction is Ohio 38, Buffalo 17.
Got something to say?
