NBA Playoff Odds & Predictions: Chicago Bulls at Boston Celtics
Written April 28, 2009 by Steve Janus
In what has turned into a great NBA playoff series, the Chicago Bulls head back to Boston to battle the Boston Celtics in more post season action. With the series all tied up at 2 wins a piece, this is a crucial game for both teams. The Celtics were phenomenal on their home court during the regular season, but the Bulls were able to steal a game from them here in the first game of the series, giving Chicago the confidence they will need if they are to have any chance to pick up another victory this hostile environment. The NBA odds for tonight’s game have the Celtics -7.5 against the Bulls and the Under/Over set for 198.5 points.
Ben Gordon was the hero in Sunday’s game 4 against the Celtics, hitting a game-tying three-pointer with just seconds left in the first overtime, a game the Bulls ended up winning in the 2nd overtime, 121-118. Gordon ended with 22 points overall, despite playing with a strained hamstring through the majority of the game. The Bulls also got another solid performance out of NBA Rookie of the Year, Derrick Rose, who lead the Bulls with 23 points and also chipped in with 11 rebounds and 9 assists.
This had to be a difficult loss for the Celtics, who could have started to slam the door shut on the Bulls with a victory on Sunday night. At least they get to return home, where they’ve been tough to beat for the most part this season. Paul Pierce lead the Celtics charge in Game 4 with 29 points, while Ray Allen continued his clutch sharp-shooting, adding 28 points overall. Rajon Rando continued his emergence as a prime-time player in the playoffs, notching yet another triple-double on Sunday, scoring 25 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and dishing out 11 assists.
The road to the next round won’t be easy for either team, but you have to give the nod to the Celtics in Game 5, mostly because they are playing on their home court, but also because they have the more experienced team in this kind of situation. The C’s are beat up, and certainly are not as good without Kevin Garnett on the floor, but they still have plenty of play-makers on the court and should continue to do well offensively.
Against the spread, however, the Bulls are an enticing bet considering they are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 playoff games as the underdog. Chicago has done well in keeping almost every game in this series close, but tonight’s game will be a true test with the series knotted up 2-2. I do not think it’s in the cards for the Bulls tonight as their youth finally catches up to them. Boston wins big.
Predicted Score: Boston Celtics 106, Chicago Bulls 92
Play on: Boston Celtics -7.5
