BYU vs Oklahoma Point Spread

Written September 4, 2009 by InfoPlays

BYU Oklahoma Point SpreadThe BYU Cougars vs. Oklahoma Sooners game this Saturday will be getting plenty of national exposure with both teams ranked in the Top-25. No. 3 Oklahoma has a great shot to make it back to the BCS National Championship game in 2009 after falling to Florida last year. They won’t want to slip up against No. 20 BYU. This game features two of the top quarterbacks in the country with Sam Bradford and Max Hall, so expect a heavy dose of big plays at the end of these two big arms. NCAA football odds have installed Oklahoma -22 over BYU with a Total Set of 66.5 points.

The Sooners finished 12-2 last season, but once again their year ended in disappointment after a 24-14 loss to the Gators in the BCS title game. This team continues to falter in big games, but they dominate during the regular season. Bradford decided to come back for his senior season after throwing 50 touchdowns to just 8 interceptions last season en route to hoisting the Heisman Trophy. The biggest concern for the Sooners is who will be blocking for Bradford this year? They lose four starting offensive linemen from a unit that allowed only 11 sacks. There is plenty of talent left at the skill positions where RB’s DeMarco Murray and Chris Brown each rushed for over 1,000 yards last season. The Sooners were suspect defensively last season, but this unit should be a strength in 2009 with nine starters returning including All-Big 12 first-team tackle Gerald McCoy.

QB Max Hall is at least in the Heisman Trophy discussion entering his senior season. Hall threw for 3,957 yards and 35 touchdowns with 14 interceptions to lead the Cougars to a 10-3 record. BYU has done everything in their power to set themselves up to try and crash the BCS party, scheduling this game with Oklahoma and then also a September 19th home meeting with No. 18 Florida State. But the offensive line for BYU is in shambles. They lost two starters to injury in preseason practice, and now their lone returning starter in Matt Reynolds will be playing with a padded splint on his left hand. BYU does return 6 defensive starters up front, but they lose three in the secondary which could pose problems against Oklahoma’s dominant passing game. The Cougars have now lost 12 straight games against ranked non-conference opponents dating back to 1998.
