St. Louis Cardinals at Atlanta Braves Odds & Picks

Written April 27, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz

cardinals-braves-predictions-042709The Cardinals are coming off a loss last night to the Cubs 10-3. That game was just a bump in the road, as the Redbirds won their previous five games before yesterday. This team is full with balance. They are hitting .303 and have collected 112 RBIs. Albert Pujols has reminded the nation that he is the best player in baseball, period.  Big Bert has seven home runs and 25 RBIs, while hitting .348 from the plate so far. However, if there is a single soul that believes this is a one man show, I suggest you take a good hard look at these numbers. Ryan Ludwick has five homers and 19 RBIs while hitting .356 so far. Rick Ankiel and Yadier Molina have been nice contributors. Tonight the Redbirds send Joel Pineiro to the mound, who has been simply fantastic through his first three starts. Pineiro is 3-0 with a 4.12 ERA to start the 2009 season. His last start he went 8 innings, allowing only two runs against the Mets. The Cardinals are 13-6 through their first 19 games. On this Monday night, don’t be too sure they’ll be getting their 14th win on the year. In two starts verses the Braves last season, Pineiro went 0-1 with a 8.00 ERA as Atlanta hit .357 off him. The Cards are nice sized dogs in this game, plenty of people will be baited in. I, for one, will not be.  Monday’s MLB odds for this game show the Atlanta Braves -125 against St. Louis and the Over/Under set at 9 runs.

The Atlanta Braves are coming off an 8-2 loss yesterday against the Cincinnati Reds. They are an even .500 on the year, going 9-9 through their first 18 games. Before yesterday’s loss they had won their last four games. With injuries to Brian McCann and Garrett Anderson, they have found that the power in their lineup will be drastically decreased. Chipper is also coming off an injury. Rookie Jordan Schafer has come back down to earth as we all expected. With that said, the Braves have gotten nice production from Jeff Francouer and Casey Kotchman. Both are hitting .300 or better for the year and Francouer has posted 12 RBIs to date.  Atlanta should be thrilled they are 9-9 with McCann out as well as the other injuries they have faced. The best medicine for spotty hitting is prime time pitching. That is exactly what young star in the making, Jair Jurrjens has provided for his team. Through his first four starts, Jurrjens is 2-1 with an excellent 1.42 ERA. The only reason he isn’t 4-0 is due to the poor run support he usually receives. He has pitched over five innings in all of his four starts. This will be a highly energized game for Atlanta as they are coming home from their nine game road trip. In his only start against St. Louis last year, Jurrjerns took a loss, once again due to a lack of run support. He went seven innings allowing only three runs. Expect a rare occurrence in this game as the Braves will show up on the offensive end and give Jair some help. A nationally televised game at home coming off a long road trip with a stud on the mound. Catch my drift? Notes below.

Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Cardinals are 19-7 in their last 26 games on a grass field. The Braves are 2-7 against the Cardinals. Nice trends huh, or not. St. Louis is not as good as their record shows and are coming off a home loss. They are traveling to Atlanta to play a game the night after they lost to the Cubs. Expect a close game, do not shy off when you see a rather high line for this game. The Braves are -125 and the O/U is set at 9 Runs. Expect the Cards to be tired and swing weak bats, though Pineiro will pitch decently. Home team wins in a pitchers duel is what I see.

Jordan’s Picks: Atlanta Braves -125 & UNDER 9 Runs

And the winning keeps going as we make mince meat of last nights BEST BEST with the Angels as they blanked the Mariners 8-0. Weaver dominated as instructed and Hunter was a force from the plate. The Halos avoided the sweep and we cashed in heavy. I’ll keep this short and sweet. LET’S GO MAKE SOME MONEY!

Documented MLB Record:

32-11 Overall & 13-3 with BEST BETS (Yesterdays Best Bet was Angels -122 vs Mariners, Final Score was Angels 8 Mariners 0)
