Cardinals Eagles Odds

Written by

The Philadelphia Eagles are licking their wounds from a loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football last week. They’ll need to recover in a hurry as they take on the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday. Every game from here on out is nearly a must-win for the Eagles if they want to make the playoffs. These teams last met in 2009, which resulted in a 32-25 home victory for Arizona. The home team has won each of the last four meetings in this series dating back to ‘02.

Odds makers in Las Vegas have installed a line of Philadelphia -14 over Arizona.

Philadelphia Eagles

Just when it appeared the Eagles had turned things around, they fell flat on their faces. After back-to-back victories over division rivals Washington and Dallas, the Eagles laid an egg in a 30-24 home loss to the Chicago Bears last Monday. Philadelphia (3-5, 1-3 home) is now desperate for a victory as they trail the New York Giants by three games in the NFC East division.

You have to give credit to the Bears because they actually earned the victory last week. Philly was outgained 372-330 and fell behind 10-0 early. The Eagles would fight back to take a 24-17 lead with 5:52 remaining in the third quarter, but Chicago went on to score the game’s final 13 points. Michael Vick went just 21 of 38 passing for 213 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. LeSean McCoy was held to 71 yards on 16 carries with a score.

Philadelphia ranks 3rd in the league in total offense (434.3 yards/game), including 1st in rushing (172.2 yards/game). Vick is completing 62.0 percent of his passes for 2,065 yards with 11 touchdowns to nine interceptions. He has not come up big late in games as he has just one fourth-quarter touchdown pass all season. McCoy leads the NFL with 825 rushing yards to go along with nine touchdowns on the ground. The Eagles rank 12th in the league in total defense (335.8 yards/game), but they have been poor in the red zone, and they’ve been put in bad spots by untimely turnovers from their offense.

Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals are coming off a much-needed 19-13 overtime win over the St. Louis Rams. Arizona (2-6, 0-4 away) will be looking for their first road victory of the season when they visit Lincoln Financial Field Sunday. Their win over the Rams snapped a six-game losing streak. Calais Campbell blocked a potential game-winning field goal at the end of regulation to force overtime.

From there, Patrick Peterson return a punt 99 yards for a touchdown to win the game for his team. The Cardinals got the victory despite not having starting quarterback Kevin Kolb, who is likely out again this week with a turf toe injury. John Skelton played well in place of Kolb, completing 20 of 35 passes for 222 yards and a touchdown. The only real blemish in his performance were a pair of safeties.

Arizona was held to a season-low 70 rushing yards last week, including 20 yards on 10 carries from Beanie Wells. Philly gave up a season-high 164 yards to the Bears, so Wells and company could get on track this week. The Cardinals rank 25th in the league in total offense (312.5 yards/game) and 27th in total defense (389.8 yards/game). They are giving up 143.3 rushing yards/game on the road this season, which doesn’t bode well for them against this top-ranked Eagles’ rushing attack.

Betting Trends

The Cardinals are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 road games, and 7-24 ATS in their last 31 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.

The Eagles are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games when playing on Sunday following a Monday night game, but just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games.
