Arizona Cardinals 2009 Super Bowl Odds
Written January 12, 2009 by Jason Lowry

What a remarkable two weeks it has been for the Arizona Cardinals, as they have shocked everyone with their wins over the Falcons and Panthers. After starting the season 7-3 it looked as though this team was going to be a legit threat this season, with wins over Buffalo and Dallas, but there were still some critics on how this team played in the NFC West, as they pretty much had the division wrapped up at this point. Then all the sudden this team struggled to finish losing 4 of its final 6 games, with the only two wins coming against division rivals St. Louis and Seattle, who combined for 6 wins on the season. The Cardinals were now headed into the playoffs against the Falcons and no one was giving them a chance, but something happened in the final game of the regular season against the Seahawks, the Cardinals started to run the football, and after barely playing all season Edgrrin James ran for 100 yards on 14 carries, and that running presence has been a big reason they are headed to the NFC Championship game this weekend. For those of you thinking about doing a little NFL betting on the Cardinals chances this postseason, the oddsmakers have the Arizona Cardinals +500 to win the Super Bowl at Sportsbook.com.
Against the Falcons in the wild card round Arizona continued to run the football, as James and rookie Tim Hightower combined for 96 yards and a score, while Warner threw for 271 yards and 2 touchdowns. Both Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin scored in the receiving game, but the Cardinals took a big hit when Boldin went down with a hamstring injury. The defense was outstanding against the run allowing Michael Turner just 42 yards, something no one gave them much of a chance to do. The Cardinals forced Matt Ryan into two big interceptions, but the biggest play came early in the 3rd quarter when Antrel Rolle scooped up a Ryan fumble 27 yards for a touchdown.
Last week against the Panthers the Cardinals came in double digit underdogs, but after falling behind 7 points early the Cardinals responded with 33 unanswered points, as James and Hightower combined for 133 yards and a score, while Warner threw for 2 more touchdowns, including one to Larry Fitzgerald who had 166 yards on the game, and the Cardinals offense did all this scoring without Boldin. The defense was amazing once again, as they allowed the rushing duo of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart just 75 yards on the ground, but the reason this team won this game, was that the defense intercepted Jake Delhomme 5 times, as the quarterback had one of the worst games you could have in the postseason.
This week the Cardinals will once again get a home game this postseason, as they are set to take on the No.6 seed Philadelphia Eagles, in the franchises first ever shot at the NFC Championship. After what this team has done the first two weeks of the playoffs, I think its time to start taking this team seriously, and though the Eagles beat this Cardinals team 48-20 during the regular season, that game was at Philadelphia and the Cardinals pretty much had the NFC West locked up. As it stands now you can bet on the Arizona Cardinals +3 against the Eagles at Sportsbook.com.
