Carmelo Anthony Knee Injury & Cavs Game

Written January 8, 2010 by Jack Jones

Carmelo Anthony’s right knee injury has forced him to miss the last three games, but he was able to participate in some of the Nuggets’ practice yesterday.  Denver really needs their star back in the lineup as tonight they play one of the best teams in the league, the Cleveland Cavaliers.  If Carmelo isn’t able to go, he will more than likely join three of his teammates on the sidelines in Nene, Chris Anderson, and Ty Lawson.

Denver is fading fast, going 3-6 in their last nine games as they barely snuck by the Warriors by a single point in their last contest.  That losing stretch has correalated pretty precisely with Chauncey Billups being on the sideline.  He should be back in the lineup tonight as he practiced for the second straight day and has the go ahead of coach George Karl.  Billups has missed eight of the team’s last nine games with a left groin strain.

The Nuggets are still 22-13 on the season and leading the Northwest Division by a single game (two in the loss column) over the Portland Trailblazers.  They are also fighting with the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns for the No. 2 & 3 seeds, which could be important in delaying any matchup with the world champion Los Angeles Lakers.  This team needs to get healthy, and fast so they can contend for prime playoff positioning.
