Carolina Panthers Minnesota Vikings NFL Betting Odds
Written September 20, 2008 by Jack Jones
This weekend the Carolina Panthers will attempt to pull off another big win this weekend, when they head to the always tough home of the Minnesota Vikings. It was a tale of two different stories for these two teams last week. While the Vikings just collapsed after having a 15-0 lead over the Colts turn into a 18-15 loss, the Panthers had little to no offense in the first half, but came out with 17 in the 2nd half to stun the Bears 20-17. The odds makers like the Vikings as JustBet.com has the Vikings as 3 point favorites at home over the Panthers.

The Vikings have made the call to sit Tavaris Jackson, and turn the quarterback job over to veteran Gus Frerotte, but thats not all the news going around the Vikings clubhouse, as star running back Adrian Peterson is still questionable with a hamstring injury. Peterson tore up the Colts defense running for 160 yards last week, and if he can’t go Chester Taylor will get the baulk of the carries. With Frerotte at quarterback the team is really hoping they can get something going in the passing game, as Jackson was able to throw for just 130 yards on 14 of 24 passing. If Peterson isn’t able to go this offense could really struggle, unless Taylor and company can keep the ground game going.
The Vikings defense played really solid defense for nearly 3 quarters, but they seem to just ware down at the end of the game, and the Colts owned the 4th quarter. The Defense was able to grab two interceptions off former MVP Peyton Manning, and defensive end Jared Allen finally made his presence felt when he finally was able to get his first sack as a Viking. The defense will have to be ready to go this weekend, as they could be asked to carry this team and keep it from going 0-3 and losing 2 straight at home. Bet Vikings -3 at JustBet.com.
The Panthers just find ways to win football games, and they continue to do it without their star wide receiver Steve Smith. Bad news for the Vikings though, as Smith’s suspension is over and he will be in action this weekend. The Panthers offense came alive late with the help of rookie running back Jonathan Stewart, who scored the final 2 touchdowns of the game, including the go ahead score with 3:52 left in the 4th quarter. Delhomme didn’t have much luck throwing the football, as he was just 12-21 for 128 yards with an interception. Delhomme will have no easy task this weekend, as the Vikings defense is sure to put plenty of pressure on him . The only receiver that really did any damage last week was Muhsin Muhammad who had 5 catches for 59 yards.
The Panthers defense did its part again last week, keeping it close and just waiting for their offense to strike. The team was able to get Bears tight end Greg Olson to cough up the ball twice. Jon Beason was the work horse for the defense leading the way with 11 tackles, and they will need another big game out of the linebacker this weekend to stop the rushing attack of the Vikings. If Frerotte is able to throw on this defense, than it will likely be a long day for the Panthers, but if they shut down the pass they can key on the run and keep AP from running wild.
