One of the best MLB handicappers that we have had on our site all season long is Freddy Wills. He continues to beat up the books with his baseball picks this post-season so if you need some help breaking apart the MLB lines, turn to someone like him that you can trust. If you are going to be doing any baseball betting this post-season, take a look at the 10% UNLIMITED signup bonus & dime lines being offered by Bodog to our readers.

Both Bobby Abreu and Derek Jeter are their respective teams most valuable player’s in my view. Abreu is a big under the radar type guy and is an ex-Yankee. Might he get his retaliation in this matchup as the Yankees resolved not to re-sign him at the close of his contract. Abreu was the catalyst for any come from behind win for the Angels with his skills to get on base. He was 5-9 with 4 runs, 4 walks, and an RBI in the ALDS. I don’t suppose Jeter needs any introduction, but he was 4-10 with 4 runs, 3 walks, and 3 RBI’s against the Twins. Both players I would not mind putting my sports betting advice behind with my sports picks.

The MLB odds on the series between the Los Angeles Angels and the New York Yankees show the Yankees as -167 chalk to advance to the World Series.

Pitching

New York has the best overall starter in CC Sabathia, who was 12-2 since the All-Star break. After that the Yankees give the ball to A.J. Burnett, Andy Pettite, and Joba or Chad Gaudin who was very sound down the stretch. It’s been said that New York might go to a three man rotation with Sabathia starting game 4 and game 7. Pitching on short rest would be nothing new for Sabathia as he did so on a regular basis down the stretch for the Brewers a year ago in supreme fashion. However, against the Angels this year Sabathia was 0-2 with a 6.08 ERA as the Angels hit southpaws very well you have to ask that if he starts three games the Angels should be able to pick up at least one win.

For the Angels it starts with John Lackey and then Jered Weaver then comes Scott Kazmir and Joe Saunders. The keys are with Weaver who has struggled on the road before, but has been dominant at home. Can he pitch well on the road, that will be the question. Also Kazmir has a career 2.67 ERA and they may be looking for him to shut down the left handed power bats in the Yankees line up. Starting pitching definitely goes to the Angels in this series for me.

Bullpen edge to the Yankees. Seems very obvious with the best closer in league history and playoff history in the closer role for New York in Mariano Rivera. Yankees were placed 14th in MLB in bullpen ERA while the Angels rated 23rd. It seems as though the Yankees will continue to use Joba out of the pen giving them a very solid top 3 relievers in Joba, Hughes, and Rivera to close out games. However, the Angels bullpen led round one in bullpen ERA as Fuentes saved two games against the Red Sox and they jointly had 1.42 ERA giving up a total of just six base runners on 4 hits and 2 walks. The Yankees come in second with a 1.80 ERA, but batters are hitting .341 and I think the Angels who have good bats could do some damage.

Edge: Angels

Hitting

From top to bottom the Angels have dangerous batters in terms of getting on base. They may not be a power threat with home runs compared to the Yankees who have hit 71 more home runs than the Angels, but the Angels led the league in hitting with a .285 average.

Yankees actually check in second and nine points in front of the next team in the majors on the list with a .283 average just two points behind the Angels. As I remarked the Yankees hit 71 more home runs and many could say it’s because of their ball park, but they have various power hitters such as Nick Swisher who hit more home runs as a visitor opposed to at home. Yankees have the leagues highest OPS at .839 as they walked 663 times this year compared to the Angels 547.

Clearly we are considering some excellent batters in this series and it should be a lot of fun. However, the edge will have to go to the Yankees. They have arguably the best playoff and clutch hitter of all time in Derek Jeter and their power to hit a home run and change the game is throughout their batting order.

Edge: Yankees

Intangibles:

Most teams might be a little overtaken by playing at Yankee stadium in the playoffs. However, the Angels are not. They were not phased in Boston when they came from two runs behind to win versus one of MLB’s best closers Johnathan Paplebon.

Really the Angels are the only team in the American League with a winning record over the past nine seasons against the Yankees and the Angels were responsible for eliminating the Yankees in the 2005 post season.

While the Angels have the emotion and heart and the will to win this one as they are playing for their SP Nick Adenhart who died earlier this season they do not have the advantage with all of the stars the Yankees have including the leadership between Jeter and Mariano Rivera. Yankees have to be excited in the fact that Alex Rodriguez eventually got over his post season slumps as he hit .455 with six RBI’s in the first round.

The point is he is no longer the savior in the lineup with Texeira backing him up. Teixera like Abreu will be facing his past team and it should make the series that much more interesting.

Edge: Yankees

Pick: Yankees in 7 games - I think it’s time for the Yankees to get back to the World Series. It will be an entertaining series when they square off against their previous coach Joe Torre if the Dodgers also come through. This series will be one of the better ones of all time. I think the Angels are still flying in under the radar and they can surely steal a game or two in New York which will make this series all that much more intriguing. If you are one to play series prices the value is certainly on the Angels side. Particularly with the success the Angels have had against Sabathia and in New York.

No Free Pick for Thursday

So I know I’ve had this disclaimer about the free picks being the weakest plays and that I don’t play them, but I really put 1% of my bankroll on these games in comparison to 3-4% on the regular and BEST BETS. I just don’t want people getting ridiculous on the free picks when they aren’t intended to be the highest percentage of winners that I offer.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Championship Series. The baseball odds show the favorites are the Dodgers at -120. If you are going to do any baseball betting on this series then take advantage of the dime lines and 50% signup bonuses being offered by Sportsbook.com. Also, if you are looking for a quality baseball handicapper to help deliver winners to you to finish out the season, Freddy Wills has been near the top of the leaderboards all season long. You can’t miss out on any of the MLB picks he will be putting out to finish off the season.

Pitching

As of Tuesday morning the starting pitchers have still not been declared although it looks like Cole Hamels will make the start for the Phillies.

Overall the Dodgers have the edge as they led the Big Leagues not only in overall ERA, but in bullpen ERA. On the flip side the Phillies were ordered 7th overall and 13th out of their bullpen. The weaknesses are clear in the bullpen as the Phillies had a lot of questions on who would be closing out games, but those questions have all been resolved if you trust Lidges 2 saves were the real deal against the Rockies.

We will likely see Wolf, Padilla, and Kershaw, and perhaps Garland or Billingsley if the Dodgers settle on a 4 man rotation which is what squads ordinarily do at this point. While Philadelphia will go with Hamels, Lee, Happ, Martinez, and possibly Blanton. So we have 5 possible pitchers on each team.

Dodgers SP who might struggle:

Randy Wolf – who will be the ace of the Dodgers again gave up 6 ER in Dodgers Stadium in June to the Phillies on 6.1 innings and 8 hits. However, the Phillies are hitting just .261 off Wolf and Wolf owns left-handed hitters which the Phillies have plenty of.

Jon Garland – Phillies are hitting .309 off him and in two starts this year one, at home and once on the road, he went 11.1 IP allowing 8 ER on 16 hits.

Phillies SP who might struggle:

Joe Blanton - Dodgers sluggers have a .295 average off Blanton in 129 AB. However, Blanton pitched solid in his 1 start vs. the Dodgers as he went 6.1 innings and gave up just 1 ER.

Edge: Dodgers

Hitting

Both of these teams have first ballot hall of famers in the middle of their lineups in Manny Ramirez and Ryan Howard. It can be argued that Utley is also a Hall of Famer. Their are two strong deviations between these teams and that is power vs. average. The Phillies are ranked #21 in average while the Dodgers are in the top 5 at #4 in the major leagues. Does that mean the Dodgers are the sounder offensive team? No, not necessarily. Sometimes in these big games what counts is clutch hitting and a home run late in a game.

The Phillies have the advantage in the power category as they have 224 HR compared to the Dodgers 145. I think the Dodgers have more power than many believe, but it will come into play in this series. While the Dodgers play small ball the Phillies can blast a 3 run HR for a quick lead. Small ball in my view does not invariably transform into big clutch hitting. If we are talking selective clutch hitting you have to give it to Philadelphia who came from behind with 2 outs and trailing 4-2 in Game 4 to win 5-4. It was the middle of the lineup that got it done in Howard and Werth.

Edge: Even

Bench

Whenever you have two respectable players coming off your pine like Jim Thome or Juan Pierre you have the two elements of a bench player that you want. Juan Pierre is a guy that can get on base and perhaps steal a base. Jim Thome is a guy who can come in a key match up and hit a home run to tie the game or take the lead. The Phillies on the other hand have Miguel Cairo, Ben Francisco and Matt Stairs none of which should intimidate the superior Dodgers bullpen.

Edge: Dodgers

Pick: Dodgers in 6 games – Look for the Dodgers to take advantage of this series when they are at home. The Phillies bullpen will really hurt them in this match up. The Phillies took advantage of the Rockies weakness vs. LHP and this won’t be the case versus the Dodgers as LA hit .270 vs. both lefties and righties, but score +.59 more runs per 9 innings vs. LHP than righties. Bottom line pitching wins titles and the Dodgers with their bullpen have the major edge!

MLB Free Pick for Thursday

So I know I’ve had this disclaimer about the free picks being the weakest plays and that I don’t play them, but I really put 1% of my bankroll on these games in comparison to 3-4% on the regular and BEST BETS. I just don’t want people getting ridiculous on the free picks when they aren’t intended to be the highest percentage of winners that I offer.

You can find more great winners every day by visiting our sports betting forum.

Jack’s Free Pick For Thursday: L.A. Angels -105

The Angels are showing solid value here at home in Game 1 against the Boston Red Sox. Jon Lester is just 3-5 vs. teams with winning record with a 4.59 ERA on the road this season. Boston is only 39-42 on the road this season, including 4-19 against teams with winning records. The Angels have been dominant against left-handed pitching again this season, going 37-17 against lefty starters. Jon Lackey is the one starter on this Angels’ roster that won’t be intimidated by the Red Sox. Lackey is 11-8 with a 3.83 ERA on the season, and he has allowed just 2 earned runs in each of his last 3 starts agaisnt Boston. The Red Sox are a putrid 0-9 against the money line in road games vs. an AL team with an on base percentage of .345 or better in the second half of the season this season. Lester will have problems agaisnt this pesky Angels’ lineup that can beat you in so many different ways, especially with the stolen base. L.A. has won 4 of 6 home meetings with Boston this season and you can chalk up No. 5 tonight. Take the Angels in Game 1.

CBB: 51-36
NBA: 26-38
NHL: 4-0 (+665)
CFB: 4-7
NFL: 8-4
MLB: 52-63-1 (-1748)

I also post my free picks on Twitter so if you follow me there it may be easier to get the picks if you are away from your computer and stop by every day for more free baseball picks from top handicappers.

After a little bump in the road in the top of the 1st the dodgers took charge in the bottom of the inning with a 2 run bomb by Matt Kemp. Today however we are going to complete flip the script and roll with the Cardinals tonight to steal the home field advantage. This one is all about the starting pitchers. The Cardinals are 5-0 in Wainwrights last 5 starts as a road favorite as well as 15-2 in his last 17 road starts vs. a team with a winning record. In the other dugout, the Dodgers are 1-5 in Kershaw’s last 6 starts vs. a team with a winning record. They are also 2-9 in Kershaw’s last 11 starts overall. As you can see the Cards find a way to win in big spots where as the Dodgers just can’t win with Kershaw on the hill. Lets roll with the Cards to square this series up at 1-1 as it goes back to St. Louis for game 3.

Rob Vincilleti is offering a free pick on the UNDER for this game: on Thursday the MLB play is on the Under in the St. Louis at LA .Dodgers game. Rotation numbers 959/60 at 6:07 eastern. This game looks to be a pitching duel with the Cardinals pitching A. Wainwright and the Dodgers countering with C.Kershaw. The Cardinals have the lowest average and slugging percentage of any playoff team this year vs left handed pitching. They struggled to score runs on Wednesday and may very well do so again tonight. Dodgers hurler Kershaw has been dominant at home with a 1.83 era, including 1.69 over his last 3 starts. Cardinals righty Wainwright has been solid in his road starts this year with a 3.39 era, including 3.00 over his last 3 starts. Both pitchers come into this one in excellent current form. Wainwright has logged 22 recent inning vs the Dodgers allowing just 3 runs. Kershaw 18+ innings vs the Cardinals with just 3 runs allowed. Both pitchers figure to be a lot to handle once again today. Both teams have excellent bull pens, which will be vital in the late stages of this one. For those looking for something to pound on Thursday night, consider a rare mid week 5 unit college play with an 18-2 system dating to 1980 and a rare Power angle that has cashed 17 of 18 times playing against tonight’s opponent. Best of all the game is nationally televised and guranteed.Dont miss this big 5 star on Thursday night. For the bases take the under 7 runs tonight. Good luck RV.

John Ryan’s Ai Simulator 3* graded play on Boston as they face Anaheim set to start at 9:35 EST. Supporting this free MLB pick is a system that has gone 137-67 making 52.7 units since 1997. Play on all teams with a money line of -100 to -150 where team’s hitters draw 4 walks or more/game on the season and after 2 straight wins by 4 runs or more. Here is a 2nd baseball betting system that has gone 129-99 making 37 units since 2004. Play on road teams revenging a loss versus opponent as a home favorite and starting a well rested pitcher who is working on 5 or 6 days rest. Boston is a solid 25-9 (+12.9 Units) against the money line versus a mediocre bullpen whose WHIP is 1.450 to 1.550 this season; 37-6 (+27.7 Units) against the money line after 4 or more consecutive home games this season; 13-1 (+11.9 Units) against the money line after 7 or more consecutive home games this season. Lackey is just 1-7 (-11.0 Units) against the money line in home games after 3 or more consecutive wins over the last 3 seasons. Lackey limps badly into this playoff game sporting an 8.31 ERA and a 1.846 WHIP. Meanwhile Lester is coming off a gem throwing 6.3 innings allowing just 2 hits, 1 BB, and recording 7 K’s. Lester is one of the best starters in the AL and his curve and change are at times unhittable. He has allowed a 195 BA on the curve. What is remarkable is that he will throw the curve equally to LH as well as RH batters. LH pitchers are not known for throwing and challenging RH batters with pitches curving into their wheelhouse. He mixes in a solid change to RH batters that keeps them guessing. He also dominates LH batters by throwing the majority of pitches in the lower right corner (away) of the strike zone. Take Boston.

The Boston Red Sox (95-67) and Los Angeles Angels (97-65) will meet in the postseason for the third consecutive year and fourth time in the last six seasons when they kick off their American League Division Series on Thursday at 9:30 PM ET. This in-depth series preview will give avid MLB betting pundits the insight they need to make winning wagers throughout the entirety of what promises to be a thrilling first-round series showdown. Of course if you need a little help with your baseball handicapping you can always pick up a premium package of MLB picks from our experts. If you plan on getting in on the action, why not take advantage of the $500 in FREE bonus money offered to our readers by BetUS! With the first pitch for this series a mere matter of hours away, let me get started.

Red Sox

With Josh Beckett, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz, Boston may have the best four-deep starting rotation in the entire postseason.

Angels

John Lackey, Bobby Abreu, Vladimir Guerrero, and Chone Figgins will all be free agents following this postseason and the Angels realize their time to strike is now. Los Angeles also has a solid four-man starting rotation even if they don’t get nearly as much press as their counterparts in this series.

Offense

The Los Angeles Angels led all of baseball in team batting average, hitting a robust .285 this season while smacking 173 team home runs. The Red Sox ranked fourth in team batting average, hitting a collective .269 while bashing 212 home runs, also fourth in all of baseball.

The Angels had two players bat over .300 during the regular season (Erik Aybar, Kendry Morales) while three more players hit over .290 (Torii Hunter, Chone Figgins, Bobby Abreu). Morales and Abreu each drove in over 100 runs. L.A. had just one player hit over 30 home runs (Morales) while three others hit at least 20 home runs (Mike Napoli, Hunter, Juan Rivera).

One thing that should also be mentioned is the fact that the Angels had three players, (Macier Izturis, Vladimir Guerrero and Howie Kendrick) miss time with injuries that limited them to approximately 380 at-bats, but all hit over .290 while driving in at least 50 runs.

Boston Red Sox had three players (Kevin Youkilis, Victor Martinez, Jacoby Ellsbury) bat over .300 this season but had just one 30-home run hitter (Jason Bay) and two players drive in 100 runs or more (Martinez, Bay), although two more players (Youkilis, David Ortiz) drove in over 90 runs while four more players hit at least 23 home runs (Youkilis, Martinez, J.D. Drew, Ortiz).

Edge: Even

Defense

The Red Sox ranked third in the AL and tied for ninth overall in runs allowed per game (4.5) while L.A. gave up an average of 4.7 runs per contest. Boston also gave up 9.2 hits and 3.3 walks per game while the Angels allowed 9.4 hits and 3.2 walks per contest. Boston recorded 7.6 strikeouts per nine innings while L.A. averaged 6.6 K’s per game.

Edge: Even

Starting Pitching

The Red Sox ranked 16th in team ERA (4.34) while L.A. checked in at 20th (4.43 ERA). Boston held opposing hitters to a .267 batting average and .335 on-base percentage while giving up 167 total home runs. L.A. allowed opposing hitters to compile a .272 batting average and .338 on-base percentage while giving up 180 total home runs.

Boston had three double digit winners (Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, Tim Wakefield, but no starter with an ERA under 3.00. The Angels had five double-digit winners this season, (Jered Weaver, John Lackey, Joe Saunders, Matt Palmer, Scott Kazmir) but like the Red Sox, none with an ERA under 3.00.

Edge: L.A.

Bullpen

The Red Sox ranked eight in the majors in bullpen ERA (3.80) while L.A. ranked 23rd in this category with an unimpressive 4.49 ERA. Boston’s relief pitchers recorded a solid 27-17 record while limiting opposing hitters to a .252 batting average and giving up 51 home runs. The Angels’ relief pitchers allowed opposing hitters to record a .270 batting average while allowing 52 home runs.

Edge: Boston

Analysis

The MLB odds show that the team favored to win this series is Boston at -135. While the Angels are catching underdog value at +105. While the Los Angeles Angels won the regular season series against the Red Sox 5-4, predicting the outcome of this series really boils down to which team you like more as these two ballclubs are about as evenly matched as two teams could possibly be.

Despite the fact that they’ve struggled mightily to beat the Red Sox in the postseason, Boston’s starting rotation is healthy for the first time in months, I am going to take the Los Angeles Angels to snap out of their dismal 1-9 postseason funk against the Red Sox if, for no other reason, than the fact that they are just too talented to continue to wallow in postseason futility.

Another factor that could come into play is the fact that Boston struggled mightily on the road this season, going an unimpressive 39- 42 in the regular season while L.A. compiled a solid 49-32 home record.

I think the addition of veteran outfielder Bobby Abreu may also be the key to an L.A. series victory. The sweet-swinging lefty is the only player in the major leagues besides Albert Pujols to drive in at least 100 runs in each of the last seven seasons.

I also think the Red Sox will have trouble with gifted switch-hitting first baseman Kendry Morales, who had a breakout season this year and absolutely exploded in the regular season’s second half.

While it won’t be easy, I like the Los Angeles Angels to overcome their postseason demons against Boston and win this series after going the distance.

Prediction: Los Angeles in 5

There are plenty of baseball handicappers who feel strongly about the first game of the St. Louis Cardinals and LA Dodgers series this week and they have premium MLB picks on the game. However, John Ryan has been a solid MLB handicapper all season long and he is offering one of his free baseball picks on this game tonight. If you are going to do any baseball betting on this game or others, make sure you check out the dime lines and 10% deposit bonus offered by Bodog Sportsook!

Ai Simulator 3* graded play on the Dodgers as they host the Cardinals in Game 1 of the NLDS. If you like action then this supporting system is exactly what the doctor ordered as it has made a whopping 98 units sporting a 449-332 record since 2004. Play against road teams with a NL starting pitcher whose ERA is 3.70 or better on the season and is a poor base running team averaging 0.5 or less SB’s/game on the season. Here is a 2nd system that has gone 42-28 making 32.2 units since 1997. Play on NL home dogs with a money line of +125 or more allowing 4.3 or less runs/game on the season after a win by 2 runs or less. Cardinals are just 15-23 (-14.0 Units) against the money line versus NL teams scoring 4.8 or more runs/game on the season this season; Dodgers are a strong 12-4 (+12.5 Units) against the money line as an underdog of +125 to +175 this season. Wolf is 25-9 (+14.2 Units) against the money line in home games over the last 2 seasons. Take the Dodgers.

Ryan went 15-5 in last year’s post season winning all three of his top rated Game of the Year/Top-25 plays. Here is a 5* Monster for you to unload on and it is backed by Ryan’s extensive research featuring TWO amazing systems and an eye opening game dependent angle so you will have no doubt you are on the right side of the baseball lines for this one.

Freddy Wills has been one of the top baseball handicappers all summer long. He plans on keeping up his torrid pace through the playoffs, so if you are going to be doing any baseball betting then you will win more often knowing who he is backing each night. He’s broken down the MLB lines on the Phillies/Rockies NLDS and is offering his prediction on who will move on to the National League Championship Series. The current series odds for this matchup show the Phillies at -154 over the Rockies. If you want a great place to get your action in, Bodog offers dime lines and an unlimited 10% signup bonus!

Starting Pitching

With Jorge De La Rosa now out for this series, which gave the Rockies their only left handed start the pitching edge for starters is clearly on the Phillies side. Here is the probable pitching match ups for the first three starts.

* Ubaldo Jimenez vs. Cliff Lee * Aaron Cook vs. Cole Hamels * Hammel or Marquis Vs. J.A. Happ or Joe Blanton

This is a major disadvantage for the Phillies mainly because they will face two of the National Leagues best left handed pitchers. What is the Rockies weakness on the road? They can’t hit left handed pitchers. They have just a .210 average and are scoring only 3.07 runs per 9 innings against LHP. This just does not look good as they may have to face rookie standout Happ another lefty in Colorado for game #3. Like the Dodgers I liked the Rockies this post season, but I think they both caught rough deals in who they faced in round #1.

Edge: Phillies

Bullpen

Both of these teams have average bullpens and whoever comes out of this series as the winner will most likely not make it to the World Series because of it. Philly’s biggest weakness is closing out games. Brad Lidge has 11 blown saves and is not necessarily going to be the closer. Rockies don’t have that issue with their closer with Huston Street being consistent all year long, but getting the ball to Street has been the issue.

Phillies were ranked 13th in the league in terms of bullpen ERA while the Rockies were ranked 24th, but again the closer is much more important than the rest which is why the edge is even here as the Rockies have a huge advantage over the Phillies.

Edge: Phillies

Hitting

Both teams were in the bottom half of the Majors in batting average, but they still were among the top in runs scored. Phillies hit the second-most home runs in baseball this year and were 4th in runs scored. The Rockies were 7th in home runs and 6th in runs.

Still the Phillies have an advantage facing nothing but right handed pitchers. Phillies best hitters are left handed and they have 6 of their 8 players hit lefty or are switch hitters making the injury to Jorge De La Rosa that much worse for the Rockies. You’ve got Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino, Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, Raul Ibanez. The first 5 guys are all lefty when a right handed pitcher comes to the mound.

It will be too much for the Rockies to over come with their hitters who many will still think is a product of Coors field. Although I will disagree because the Phillies Stadium is a small field built for hitters too.

Edge: Phillies

Wills’ baseball picks show that he is taking the Phillies to capture this series in 4 games.
