Jack’s Free Pick For Saturday:  Rutgers -8.5 at Bookmaker

This has been a very one-sided series the last few years, with Rutgers going 4-0 S.U. and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings with Syracuse.  The Scarlet Knights have won by 18, 24, 31 and 22 points in their last 4 meetings, respectively.  The Orange have lost six players for the season to injury in the last two games, and top receiver Mike Williams unexpectedly quit the team two weeks ago.  Sitting at 3-7, Syracuse has little to play for and is looking ahead to next year.  They are playing several players who are only starting because of injuries.  Rutgers is on a roll right now with a lot to play for, and they’ve won 3 straight including their most dominant performance of the season last week, beating up on South Florida 31-0.  They played that game last Thursday, so they have had an extra 2 days to get ready for Syracuse which is also a big factor here.  Rugers is 6-0 ATS in road games after the first month of the season over the last 2 seasons.  The Scarlet Knights are 8-1 ATS in the second half of the season over the last 2 seasons.   Like last year, this team is hitting on all cylinders down the stretch.  Take Rutgers.

Georgia has had a brutal season by their standards. Last year they also under achieved in a big way falling to get to a BCS bowl game with players such as QB Matthew Stafford (#1 overall draft pick), Knowshon Moreno (Top 15 draft pick and starter for the Denver Broncos) and Mohammed Massaquoi. Head coach Mark Richt is known as one of the nations top coaches, however, if the Bulldogs do not start to get back in the Title talks soon, he may very well be on the hot seat. Starting QB Joe Cox has not a very good season. While throwing for 2,059 yards, he has a bad touchdown/interception ratio of 18 to 12 and has completed a tad under 58% of his passes. Richard Samuel has not nearly lived up to his billing as an impact running back. He has collected 395 yards and only two touchdowns this season. Washaun Ealey has started to split carries with him. AJ Green is their impact wide receiver and a guy who is projected to be a big time NFL star. He is a banged up headed into tonight’s game with a shoulder injury but is expected to play. His numbers on the season show 47 catches for 751 yards and 6 touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball the Bulldogs have really struggled. They allow 26 points per game and the only reason it is that low is due to a blowout win over cupcake opponent in Tennessee Tech (38-0). Expect georgia to struggle tonight with the speed of Kentucky. Overall, the Bulldogs are more talented then the Wildcats which in the end might be enough to get by, especially because they are at home. The spread though is way off, these two teams have very similar stat lines when combining both defensive and offensive numbers. Free pick below.

Defense will be in the forefront when the North Carolina Tar Heels and Boston College Eagles face-off. UNC has been a nice run since starting the conference season off with three straight losses. They will without a doubt have the most talent on the field against an average BC team. The Eagles simply find ways to win games and still have an outside shot at winning the ACC Atlantic Division. North Carolina’s run comes to an end here. Play: BC -3.5

Penn State lost their two most important games of the season and now have to travel to East Lansing, MI to take on a hungy Michigan State Spartan team. This line seems a bit suspect to me, but how can you not play the Nittany Lions in this spot? Penn State’s defense should be able to contain Sparty’s offense while Clark and Royster get the team into the end zone enough to cover this small spread. Play: Penn State -3

Cal at Stanford is one of the more intriguing games of the week. Stanford has caught fire at the right time and has taken the Pac-10 by the storm in recent weeks with wins over Oregon and USC. Cal picked up a nice win at home against Arizona without their star player Jahvid Best. The Golden Bears might be walking into a buzz saw, but they have the defense and running game to keep this close. Play: Cal +7

The South will rise again when the LSU Tigers travel to The Grove and clash with the Ole Miss Rebels. LSU could possibly still be without starting QB Jordan Jefferson and there is a big drop off with backup Jarrett Lee. Ole Miss is coming off their best performance of the year as they finally figured out that they need to get the ball into the hands of RB Dexter McCluster as much as possible. The Runnin’ Rebs closed the season well last year and are duplicating that effort once again. Play: Ole Miss +4

How bad is the Big 12 North? Nebraska is atop the division right now and they host Kansas State this weekend who is only one game back. The Huskers are a 17 point favorite. Bill Synder’s Wildcat team has over achieved the entire year, but have struggled on the road. Nebraska seemed to gain some momentum with their upset win at home against Oklahoma and a impressive road victory at Kansas. K State loves to run the ball, but it will be tough sleding against Mr. Suh and company. Play: Nebraska -16.5

Stanford is ranked #14 in the country and is one of the hottest teams in the nation winning their last three games against solid foes.  They’re the favorite against Cal, but the Golden Bears have the same 7-3 record and are looking to mix up the wide open Pac-10.  Prediction:  Cal 34  Stanford 28

North Carolina hits the road to take on Boston College in ACC play.  Both teams are sporting a 7-3 record and are vying for bowl position in this matchup.  UNC and their defense will win out.  Prediction: UNC  24  Boston College 13.

#9 Ohio State will clinch the Big 10 with a win over Wolverines at the Big House.  Michigan looked great to start out the year but have since imploded and look to end the year with a 5-7 record and no bowl game.  Prediction:  Ohio State 38 Michigan 2o

Air Force takes on #19 BYU in a marquee Mountain West Matchup.  The Cougars are playing at home and hoping for a 10 win regular season, but I’ve got Air Force pulling off the upset.   Prediction:  Air Force 24 – BYU 21

Northwestern is flying high after an upset of then undefeated Iowa two weeks ago.  They beat Illinois last week and are looking to extend the streak to 3 games against Wisconsin.  They’ll fall short against a tough Badger squad.  Prediction:  Wisconsin 28 Northwestern 16

Another great Pac-10 matchup pits the #11 Oregon Ducks against the Arizona Wildcats.  Both teams can claim the conference championship by winning out.  After a disappointing loss to Cal last week, the Wildcats will fall again to the Ducks at home.  Prediction:  Oregon 42 Arizona 31

Minnesota is looking to play spoiler to #15 Iowa’s bid for 10 regular season wins.  The Hawkeyes looked good last week but lost in overtime to Big 10 champs Ohio State, and they’ll complete a season to be proud of at home against the Gophers.  Prediction:  Iowa 21 Minnesota 13

#6 Boise State travels puts their undefeated record on the line once again as they travel to take on conference opponent Utah State.  The Broncos will put up big points in an attempt to sway votes for better BCS positioning.   Prediction: Boise State 52  Utah State 10

As for the rest of the undeated teams, they’re all playing unranked opponents so there’s not much shake up expected in the top of the polls.

This will be the last regular season game for Air Force, and they’ve won 4-5 hoping to finish on a high note with an upset win.  Their strong option offense has been a success this year as they’re ranked 4th nationally with 279.2 ypg.  Those numbers can be a little misleading, however, since their 7 victories have come against teams with a combined 22-49 record.  QB Tim Jefferson wasn’t recruited for his arm, as he’s thrown 5 td’s to 1 pick for 687 yards on the season.  He’s done a good job leading the option charge, rushing for 197 yards and 3 scores for a unit that’s tallied 24 of their 31 td’s on the ground.

The Falcons defense is up and coming, and had a superb outing last week.  They held an inferior UNLV squad to 282 total yards and 17 points.  Noone has been able to score more than the 23 that Utah put on them in week 8.  This unit benefits greatly from the successful running game of the offense, and the numbers speak for themselves.  They are second to none in passing defense, allowing a mere 127.9 ypg, ranked 7th nationally in total defense with 265.4 ypg and good for 9th in scoring at 13.3 ppg.  There’s more game breakdowns and expert football picks at Betfirms.

BYU will have their hands full, especially if they run the ball like they did last week.  Against the Lobos they were only able to manage 41 yards on 23 attempts.  That’s a far cry from the 152.6 average.  QB Max Hall came to the rescue as he’s done all year, throwing for 2 scores and 314 yards with only 1 pick.  He’s had a very successful season and is tied with Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer with 29 BYU wins.   He needs 143 yards to surpass the 3000 yard barrier, and has 23 td’s to 12 int’s.  If he has time, he can pick a defense apart, and has no trouble spreading the love as ten different receivers have double digit receptions!

Defensively the Cougars have been inconsistent, giving up 54 points to Florida State while shutting down Wyoming and Tulane for a total of 3.  Perhaps the most important stat this week is their run defense, as they’re limiting foes to 103.5 ypg.  They haven’t faced an attack like Air Force’s though, and it will be interesting to see whether they can contain it.

Saturday’s battle  promises to be an exciting game with some very interesting matchups.  Hall is currently 2nd in the nation in pass efficiency and will be put to the test against the best in the country.  On the other hand, Air Force will be facing a stout run defense to counter their offensive strength.  I like the Falcons covering the spread and potentially beating a good BYU team, as they haven’t lost by more than 7 points all year, which includes games against #4 TCU and #21 Utah.   If you’re interested in college football betting or pro football picks, look no further than Betfirms.

Tyrod Taylor has been a big reason for the recent offensive success, as he’s been playing good football against inferior opponents.  Last week against Maryland he threw for 200 yards and 3 td’s before the half, and finished the game with 268 yards.  He’s been making good decisions on the season as he’s garnered 12 td’s to only 3 int’s for 1720 yards.  Supporting him in the backfield is running back Ryan Williams, who’s had a breakout year with 7 games of over 100 yards and 11 scores.  Taylor has proved himself as a dual threat.  He is the team’s second leading rusher contributing 292 yards and 4 td’s.

Playing against the worst team in the conference was good for the defense last week, as they held the Terrapins to 236 yards, with only 104 of those coming in the air.  This unit has been a strong point when the offense has proved inconsistent, and is limiting opponents to a stingy 16.6  ppg.   They boast a couple of good playmakers.  LB Cody Grimm leads the team with 85 tackles and four forced fumbles, and in the secondary CB Rashard Carmichael has proven himself with 5 int’s to his credit, one being returned for a score.  For more expert football picks, look no further than Betfirms.

North Carolina State’s only conference win was two weeks ago against Maryland, and they’re coming off a 43-23 home beat down from Clemson.  QB Russell Wilson had a rough game, completing 12-32 passes for 183 yards and 2 td’s to one interception.  He leads an explosive offense that has found the endzone 42 times.   While he’s had a problem with interceptions (10), he’s thrown an impressive 26 td’s and has nine different recievers in the double digits for receptions.  Toney Baker heads up the ground game that gains a respectable 136.1 ypc with a 5 ypc average and 6 scores.

While the offense hasn’t had trouble putting up points, the Wolfpack defense can be blamed for the majority of the losses this year.  On the year they’ve given up 38 td’s, and through the last seven contests they’ve given up over 40 ppg!  While they’re limiting opponents to under 350 ypg, Clemson shredded them for 454 yards, with 254 of those coming on the ground.  If they can’t give up 7.1 ypc to Virginia Tech, look for it to be another long day for this unit.

Frank Beamer has led the Hokies to double digit wins for the last five years, and the Hokies have a great chance to make it six.  Their pass defense matches up nicely against the Wolfpack, and they’ll have the better athletes on the field playing aat home. They’re ranked 16 in the nation and, while they’re out of the ACC championship game, they should be able to roll over NC State.  Be sure to take advantage of the 10% Signup Bonus from Bodog if you want to bet on college football.

The Arkansas Razorbacks are led by Ryan Mallett, the transfer from Michigan who is having a brilliant year at the quarterback spot. Mallett will likely cross the 3,000 passing yard barrier in this game and he has thrown 23 touchdowns to just 4 interceptions. Mallett has added a new dimension to the Arkansas offense that they haven’t had in several years. Four players have at least 25 receptions, so Mallett certainly does a good job of spreading the ball around. In the backfield Arkansas has a lot of depth as well, with five running backs with 28 carries or more. All of the tailbacks have proven very adept and the Arkansas running game has kept defenses honest all year long. The Arkansas defense has been a unit that has struggled much of the season, though they have made progress in recent games. For the year they are allowing 25.5 points per game and a huge 412 total yards per game. In the last 3 games they have given up just 21 points per game and their rushing defense has improved.

The Bulldogs have shown quite a bit of promise this year, but the offense just isn’t where it needs to be just yet. Senior quarterback Tyson Lee has been able to move the team down the field frequently, but costly turnovers have really hurt the Bulldogs. Lee has thrown 13 interceptions to just 4 touchdowns this year. Anthony Dixon is doing a very nice job at the running back position, averaging 5.3 yards a carry on the season. The lack of play makers on the outside is something that has held this offense back as well. As a whole the offense has shown some improvement from last year, but it still has plenty of room to grow. The defense fights hard and keeps them in games pretty often. They have given up 25 points per game so far this season.

The college football betting lines for this weekend show the Razorbacks as 11.5 point favorites over the visiting Bulldogs. The posted total is set at 60.5 points. If you are making football picks and want some quick trends to chew on here a couple: the home team is 7-0 against the spread in the last 7 meetings, but the underdog is 7-3 against the spread in the last 10 meetings as well.

Ryan Mallett and the Arkansas offense have proven they can score against any defense this season, so I expect them to put points on the board. Mississippi State will need to try to stay close by running the football effectively and keeping Arkansas off the field as much as possible.

The LSU Tigers are 8-2 on the season and have had a successful year so far, but the offense has never really gotten things going. It has been all about defense for the Tigers. The offense of the LSU Tigers is averaging 25 points a game and only 310 total yards per game. Jordon Jefferson has done a good managing the offense and taking care of the football for the Tigers. The running game, which was expected to be terrific, has been less than average. In the biggest games this year LSU’s rushing offense has sputtered, which has put a lot of pressure on Jefferson to make plays. Brandon LaFell and Terance Toliver form a very nice receiver duo for the Tigers. The defense of LSU has been outstanding all year long. The defense is giving up just 13.7 points per game and held the Florida Gators to just 13 points in a loss earlier this year.

The Rebels of Mississippi were in the top five at one point this season, but after three losses they have fallen all the way out of the top 25. Last week’s game against Tennessee was definitely the best complete game of football they have played all year, so they will be looking to build on that. Dexter McCluster does everything for this offense, catching passes at wide receiver and running the ball out of the backfield plenty as well. McCluster is now averaging a stunning 7.1 yards per carry on 107 carries this season. Jevan Snead was expected to do big things this year and he has been a bit disappointing. Snead has thrown 14 interceptions in just 10 games and is only completing 52% of his passes. The defense of Ole Miss has played very well this year. The Rebels defense is giving up just 15.9 points per game and only 313 yards per game.

The college football odds for this weekend show Mississippi as a 4 point favorite against LSU. The posted total has been set at 42.5 points. Trends to aid you in making college football picks are critical, and a couple stand out in this match up. LSU is just 1-7 against the spread in the last 7 meetings between these two teams. Mississippi is 8-1-1 against the spread in their last 10 November games, so maybe they are late season football team. The football picks on this game are pouring in, and they are likely to be quite mixed, since this is definitely an even match up.

The Rebels will need Jevan Snead to play well, because this LSU defense will key in on the run if Ole Miss becomes too one dimensional. LSU will do their best to establish a running game and control the ball in this one. I would expect a low scoring game as both defenses flex their muscles.

Last weekend I went 6-1 in college football. I feel good about this weekend’s card as well. The Oregon Ducks have really turned this into a terrific season after such a terrible start at Boise State earlier this year. They have been good to those who have made football pickson them against the spread, going 7-2 against the spread this season. The offense has been hitting on all cylinders of late, especially the running game which is one of the top five in the country. LaMichael James has been a pleasant surprise for Oregon, rushing for 1,197 yards already on the season and getting an average of 7 yards per carry. Jeremiah Masoli is the signal caller for the Ducks, and Masoli has done a great job leading the offense. Masoli is a terrific runner himself, averaging over 6 yards per carry even when the lost yardage from sacks is accounted for. Masoli is also being very efficient with his passing game, throwing 11 touchdowns to just 3 interceptions on the season. For most of the season the defense has been great, although in the last 3 games they have given up 31 points per game. The Ducks defense will need to get back to their early season form in this one.

Arizona is unbeaten at home this year at 5-0, and they are looking to make it 6-0 with a huge win this weekend. Nick Foles has done a nice job at quarterback, completing a very healthy 70% of his passes on the year and throwing 13 touchdowns to just 6 interceptions. The running game has been very good too, which has kept the offense very balanced at Arizona. Keola Antolin and Nicholas Grigsby have been splitting the playing time at tailback, and both have been very effective. At wide receiver the Wildcats have five receivers with over 25 catches on the season, so they have plenty of targets to throw the ball to. The Arizona defense has been pretty good this year, and unlike Oregon they have actually gotten better in the last few games. The defense is allowing just 15 points and 252 total yards per game in the last 3 games.

The college football odds for this weekend show Oregon as a 6 point road favorite in this Pac 10 battle for the Rose Bowl. The posted total is set at 60 points. When making your college football picks this weekend consider these two trends: Oregon is 7-1 against the spread in their last 8 games, and Arizona is 11-3 against the spread in their last 14 home games.

The Oregon Ducks will definitely do their best to establish the running game early and often in this one. I’d be surprised if Arizona can shut down the run completely, but I also think Arizona will be able to move the football against Oregon’s defense. This game could definitely come down to who takes care of the football and which defense can make a timely stop.

The Cardinals will try to break their horrible 0-5 record on the road, and go into this contest with a little momentum.  They got their first conference win against Syracuse despite an abysmal offensive performance where they managed 151 total yards.  Adam Froman completed 50% of his passes for 117 yards and 1 int, raising his season totals to 4 td and 4 ints.  Because the passing game isn’t a big threat, the team has been forced to rely on Victor Anderson and the running game.  13 of the 20 scores have come on the ground, where Anderson is the top dog with 473 yards and 5 td’s to his credit.

Progress has been the name of the game on the other side of the ball, as Louisville has held opponents to 13 ppg in the last 3 contests.  The pass defense was superb last week, limiting Syracuse to a weak 110 yards in the air as the secondary has ten total interceptions to their credit.   The best run stopper on the team has been Chris Campa, who’s tallied an impressive 65 tackles, 10 TFL’s and 5 sacks.  He needs more support, however, as the unit is giving up over 150 rushing ypg.

The Bulls are coming off a terrible offensive performance where they were shut out last week by Rutgers.  They turned the ball over 4 times and gained a total of 159 yards.  QB B.J. Daniels is looking to bounce back from the poor effort where he was sacked 7 times and completed 7-17 passes for two int’s.  On the year he’s doing much better, accounting for 10 scores in the air and another 4 on the ground.  There are 2 other RB’s and one WR that also account for 4 of the scores, and South Florida has found balance in an offense that has scored 16 td’s passing and another 14 rushing.

Last week the Bulls were gashed for 160 yards rushing, a number they’re looking to decrease against the Cardinals.  While Lousville has been improving, the Bulls have been allowing points in bunches lately, averaging 31.2 over the last 4 outings.   Despite giving up those points, this unit leads the Big East in pass defense at 186 ypg.  They’ve been able to get to opposing QB’s well, amassing 21 sacks on the year, and hope to fluster Froman into some bad throws for turnovers.

South Florida has been very inconsistent this year.  They pulled off an upset against West Viriginia only to get shut out by Rutgers the following week and drop out of the top 25.  Louisville got the win last year 24-20 and they have a great shot to pull out an upset or at least beat the 11.5 point spread.  If the Bulls come out flat, they could be in for a rude awakening.  Betfirms has all you need for pro football picks.  When it comes to expert picks, there’s noone better.
