North Carolina at Boston College Football Betting Odds

We’ve got a big game this weekend in New England. North Carolina comes into to Boston to face the Eagles in what we can definitely refer to as a crucial game for both teams. Boston College may argue that it’s more important for them as they still try and hold on to their last hopes at an Atlantic division title. However, because the Eagles’ fate depends on the outcome of the Virginia and Clemson game this weekend, North Carolina may argue in their own favor. A win in Boston could put the Tar Heels one win away from a 9-3 record, along with a much greater chance at landing in the Gator Bowl this season. Either way you interpret this game’s importance, we should be in for a real treat this Saturday. Game time is at 12pm eastern time and our current college football lines have the Eagles as 3.5-point favorites at home, where they have a 6-0 record this season.

This season has been a tale of two teams for North Carolina but the defense is really starting to come around and win games for them recently. With a 16-3 loss against Virginia earlier this season, UNC’s season didn’t look to be a pretty one. In mid-season, they even went two weeks in a row without scoring more than 7 points in either game. But these past three weeks they have outscored opponents 72-47, giving up only an average of 15.6 points per game. For UNC to win this game Saturday, they will need nothing less but to continue this dominant play on the defensive side of the ball. They absolutely cannot afford to give up the 37.6 points per game that Boston College averages at home this season. If they even allow 30 points, I don’t think they’ll come out with a win. Boston College has also been somewhat wish washy this season, maintaining an undefeated 6-0 record at home and a 1-3 record away. Granted, they have played tougher opponents in their away games, but still, statistics are statistics. If those stats do have any meaning though than they should be obvious favorites in this game considering the high amount of points they are scoring at home. However, the ACC opponents they faced at home were Wake Forest, Florida State, and NC State; three teams in the bottom half of the ACC in defense. North Carolina is a real threat on defense and currently ranks 1st in the ACC in total defense, giving up only 268 yards per game. They also rank 1st in scoring defense, giving up an excellent 16.2 points per game. The bottom line is that Boston College is going to have to find ways to put numbers on the board in this game to come out with the win. North Carolina is not going to hand them this win and that Tar Heel defense is the real deal.

Looking at Boston College’s success at home and the amount of points they put up in home games would normally be enough for me to go ahead with the Eagles in this game but their lack of facing good defensive teams forces too many questions. The only tough defenses the have faced so far are Clemson and Virginia Tech and they couldn’t even come up with more than 7 and 14 points, which leads me to believe they should have a difficult time scoring high numbers. Therefore, I’m going to take North Carolina by the spread. Now, if that UNC defense lays an egg and allows 30 points then Boston College should have no problems taking the spread and the game, but I just don’t see that happening. Overall, this is a tough game to call, but the chances of UNC covering are higher in my opinion.

Rutgers at Syracuse Football Betting Odds and Predictions

Week 12 brings us another great Big East matchup when the Rutgers Scarlet Knights travel to the Carrier Dome to take on the Syracuse Orange. This has not been a favorable year for the Orange as they currently hold a 3-7 record, having lost 8 straight in-conference games in a row. Ouch. Hopes had been high with the addition of former Duke point guard Greg Paulus as the new quarterback, but as we know, he hasn’t turned out so well. On the other hand, Greg Schiano and his 25th ranked Scarlet Knights have been playing lights out. With a 7-2 record, they already hold bowl eligibility and can gain even more ground this weekend with a win against Syracuse. Anything can happen, but if Rutgers plays anywhere in the realm of last week’s outing against South Florida, it could be a long day for the Orange. Game time is 3:30pm Eastern time and our current college football odds have Rutgers as the 9-point favorites.

Rutgers showed everything they’ve got in week 11 as they completely blew out South Florida in what many thought would be a close game. I personally watched that game, and I can vouch for coach Schiano that they are indeed the real deal. This team can pay with the best of them and have shown it all year, with the exception of a 47-15 loss to Cincinnati. My favorite part about this team though, and their strength going into this game, is their capability to play with the same toughness in away games as they have in home games. The way they are playing, it even seems reasonable to expect them to finish the season off with an undefeated away game record. Obviously, they would have to continue their recent defensive success though. If you bet NCAA Football you should jump on board with BetUS and take advantage of their $500 Match Bonus.

In my opinion, Syracuse is such a confusing team to analyze because of they amount of potential they show at times. Some games, such as the Northwestern, Minnesota, and South Florida games, they have come ready to execute and actually put up pretty solid numbers. But others, as in half of their games, they come out and lay an egg, failing to even score two touchdowns. Recently, the defense has also been below par, giving up an average of almost 27 points per game, and almost 29 points in conference games. For Syracuse to win this game, or even cover the spread, I believe they are going to have to play lights out defense and limit Rutgers well below their average of 29.1 points per game.

Yes, Syracuse is desperate. Yes, Syracuse has lost 8 straight in conference games. They are bound to win this game right? Well, no. Actually, in my opinion, it’s pretty clear that Rutgers is going to win this football game. Forget all the scenarios and losing streaks as you examine this one. Rutgers is playing too good right now on both sides of the ball and shouldn’t have any problems putting up the 27 points that Syracuse has been giving up all season. Will Rutgers cover the spread? Again, by the way they’ve been playing recently, I just don’t see Syracuse producing many problems and I expect Rutgers to easily cover the spread.

NFL Betting Lines: Bengals at Raiders

On a normal year of late one would expect this to be a match up between two teams with terrible records and little to play for. The Raiders are just 2-7 and have had a tough season, but the Cincinnati Bengals have been the biggest surprise in the NFL so far this season. The Bengals have swept the Steelers and the Ravens already this year and sit atop the very strong AFC North at 7 wins and 2 losses. They head to the west coast to try to move to 8-2 this weekend. The Bengals have done it with improvement all around this season. The defense is the best and toughest it has been in years and the offense is much improved thanks to a great running game and a healthy Carson Palmer. Palmer, the former Heisman trophy winner, has really stepped up as a leader this year and has led the team on game winning drives in the last couple minutes several times this season. Palmer is completing 61% of his passes and has over 2,000 yards and 14 touchdowns in 9 games thus far this season. Cedric Benson, the Bengals main running option is listed as doubtful for this game so they will definitely miss him. The offensive line has done a great job run blocking this year, and Bernard Scott is a pretty good backup, so the Bengals may well still be able to run the ball. The Bengals defense has improved in a huge way in the last couple of years. The Bengals have the second best run defense in the NFL and are only allowing 16 points per game.

The Oakland Raiders have had a very long season already, thanks mainly to a terrible offense. This weekend JaMarcus Russell has been benched and Bruce Gradkowksi will be given the chance to start. The Raiders offense has been the definition of inept so far this season, scoring just 9.8 points per game and gaining only 222 yards per game. The Raiders have made it easy on those making football predictionsof late, just take the other team against the spread and cash in the large majority of the time. The Raiders have three talented running backs in Bush, McFadden, and Fargas, but they have yet to get going in a big way. The Raiders really need some kind of passing game to keep the defenses from loading up the box to stop the run. The defense of the Raiders isn’t great, but they haven’t been terrible either. The Raiders weakness on defense so far this year has been against the run, where they are giving up 156 yards per game.

The NFL odds for this weekend show the Bengals as 9.5 point favorites in this game. The posted total is set at 36 points. When making your NFL picks for this game consider the fact that the Bengals are just 1-6 against the spread in their last 7 games where they were favored. The under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.

The Bengals definitely have looked the better team, but they can’t overlook the Raiders in this game. The Bengals come in slightly wounded with injury difficulties so this might be a little closer than you would think, but the Bengals should get the job done in the end.

California at Stanford College Football Odds

Most of the last decade the Cal/Stanford rivalry hasn’t meant very much in the grand scheme of things to college football as a whole, but that is very different this year. Under coach Jim Harbaugh Stanford has revived its program in a big way and they are still fighting for a Rose Bowl berth and the chance to play Ohio State on New Year’s Day. California would like nothing more than to spoil Stanford’s bid at a Rose Bowl berth. Get an extra $500 to bet on football when you sign up at BetUS and fund your account with at least $500 or more.

The Cal Golden Bears started the season like a ball of fire, but they have since cooled off quite a bit. Their leading rusher, star Jahvid Best was hurt badly and is out for the rest of the season, but the team has continued to battle and comes into this game at 7-3 on the season. Kevin Riley has done a solid job at quarterback this year for Cal, only throwing 5 interceptions in their 10 games and guiding the offense to averaging 30.7 points per game. Shane Vereen is the starter since Best is out, and Vereen has been a nice surprise. Vereen is averaging over 5 yards a carry and already has 7 touchdowns this year. The defense of the Golden Bears is improved from a year ago. The defense is strong against the run and average against the pass. For the season Cal is allowing 22 points per game.

The Stanford Cardinal were expected to improve, but almost no one thought they would get better this quickly. Stanford is coming off two huge wins, at home against Oregon and at USC. They now play what is probably their biggest game in years. The Cardinal offense has been tremendous this year. The balanced attack of great running ability along with a very good passing game is extremely tough to game plan for. Toby Gerhart has 1,381 yards on the season and averages 5.3 yards per carry. Gerhart is a real workhorse and he tends to get stronger as the game goes on. Andrew Luck is a sensational freshman quarterback for Stanford. Luck has only thrown 3 interceptions in 10 games in his freshman campaign as signal caller against a solid Pac 10 conference. How balanced are they? Stanford averages 223 yards passing per game and 222 yards rushing per game! The Stanford defense is an improved unit, but they’ll need to continue to improve as Stanford moves into the upper echelon of teams. At times this year they have given up too many points, including 43 against Arizona and 38 against Oregon State.

The NCAA football odds for this weekend show Stanford as a 7.5 point favorite over the visiting Cal Golden Bears. The posted total for the game is set at 63 points. When making football predictions about this game consider that Cal is 5-2-1 in their last 8 against Stanford, but Stanford is a stunning 11-0 against the spread at home this season.

I expect Stanford to run the ball early and often with Toby Gerhart and mix in some runs and passes from Andrew Luck. It will be up to California to keep up, because I sincerely doubt Stanford will have much trouble scoring in this game.

Jack’s Free Pick For Saturday: Rutgers -8.5 at Bookmaker

This has been a very one-sided series the last few years, with Rutgers going 4-0 S.U. and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings with Syracuse. The Scarlet Knights have won by 18, 24, 31 and 22 points in their last 4 meetings, respectively. The Orange have lost six players for the season to injury in the last two games, and top receiver Mike Williams unexpectedly quit the team two weeks ago. Sitting at 3-7, Syracuse has little to play for and is looking ahead to next year. They are playing several players who are only starting because of injuries. Rutgers is on a roll right now with a lot to play for, and they’ve won 3 straight including their most dominant performance of the season last week, beating up on South Florida 31-0. They played that game last Thursday, so they have had an extra 2 days to get ready for Syracuse which is also a big factor here. Rugers is 6-0 ATS in road games after the first month of the season over the last 2 seasons. The Scarlet Knights are 8-1 ATS in the second half of the season over the last 2 seasons. Like last year, this team is hitting on all cylinders down the stretch. Take Rutgers.

Jack’s Free Pick For Friday: Mavs/Kings OVER 202.5 at Bookmaker

Sacramento is putting up good numbers offensively, scoring 102.8 points/game this season. But their defense hasn’t been up to par, allowing 104.7 points/game this season. Now they have to face a Dallas team that is averaging 107.2 points/game at home this year. I fully expect Dallas to top 110 points tonight and for Sacramento to keep pace with over 100. The Kings are 9-1 OVER when playing against a top-level team (Win Pct. > 70%) over the last 2 seasons. The average score in these games is Sacramento 103.6 and their opponents 117.5 for more than 220 combined points on average. Take the OVER.

Kentucky vs Georgia College Football Odds

The Wildcats are 6-4 on the season (2-4 in SEC play). In terms of competitive nature Kentucky has been very consistent all year long. Their marquee win came vs. Auburn on the road, a game they won 21-14 at Auburn. In losses to to Mississippi State and South Carolina, two teams that are clearly better then the Wildcats, they lost by a combine 9 points. Mike Hartline is the starting Quarterback for Kentucky and has been a non factor all season long. So often the Cats line up running backs or wide receivers behind center and run the option play. The big factor back for this team is Derrick Locke. He has rushed for 741 yards on 150 carries with 5 rushing touchdowns. A true workhorse he has been for them all season long. Randall Cobb has been their number one Wide Receiver this season, he is questionable for Saturday’s game with a shoulder injury. Cobb has caught 32 passes for 384 yards and 4 touchdowns while also rushing for 396 yards and 7 touchdowns. He is a multi threat from behind center or wide out position. The area where Kentucky should have consistent success Saturday night is on the defensive end. They allow 4 less points per game then Georgia and are much better against the pass. Morgan Newton will most likely be starting at QB for the Cats tonight in place of Mike Hartline. Perhaps the true freshman will give this team the boost they need in order to pull off another big SEC road win. Head coach Rich Brooks has done a nice job with this team considering the limited talent he has to work with compared to other SEC powerhouse schools. The x-factor will be the offensive line. If they are able to protect their true freshman QB and form holes for RB Derrick Locke, then Kentucky will have every opportunity to pull off the upset.

Georgia has had a brutal season by their standards. Last year they also under achieved in a big way falling to get to a BCS bowl game with players such as QB Matthew Stafford (#1 overall draft pick), Knowshon Moreno (Top 15 draft pick and starter for the Denver Broncos) and Mohammed Massaquoi. Head coach Mark Richt is known as one of the nations top coaches, however, if the Bulldogs do not start to get back in the Title talks soon, he may very well be on the hot seat. Starting QB Joe Cox has not a very good season. While throwing for 2,059 yards, he has a bad touchdown/interception ratio of 18 to 12 and has completed a tad under 58% of his passes. Richard Samuel has not nearly lived up to his billing as an impact running back. He has collected 395 yards and only two touchdowns this season. Washaun Ealey has started to split carries with him. AJ Green is their impact wide receiver and a guy who is projected to be a big time NFL star. He is a banged up headed into tonight’s game with a shoulder injury but is expected to play. His numbers on the season show 47 catches for 751 yards and 6 touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball the Bulldogs have really struggled. They allow 26 points per game and the only reason it is that low is due to a blowout win over cupcake opponent in Tennessee Tech (38-0). Expect georgia to struggle tonight with the speed of Kentucky. Overall, the Bulldogs are more talented then the Wildcats which in the end might be enough to get by, especially because they are at home. The spread though is way off, these two teams have very similar stat lines when combining both defensive and offensive numbers. Free pick below.

Week 11 NFL Picks

The Buffalo Bills will be under new direction when they take on the upstart Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend. These two teams are not that far a part in terms of talent, but Buffalo has one of the worst run defenses in the league. That is where Jaguar running back Maurice Jones Drew comes into play. I think the Bills play inspired ball this weekend and try to get their former defensive coordinator his first win as a head coach. Play: Bills +8.5

Baltimore hosts Indianapolis in one of the better match-ups on Sunday. This line jumps out to me that Vegas could be setting a trap as the Colts are without a doubt the better team on a neutral field. Coming off an emotional win and facing a desperate Ravens team is a tough spot, but if anyone can pull his team together in a tight spot it is Peyton Manning. Play: Colts +1

Alright, the Giants are finally going to show up this week against the Falcons after a much needed bye week allowed them to collect themselves. They should get back to running the ball with physicality and using the play action game to rip off big chunks of yardage. Atlanta’s Michael Turner is questionable and without him they will have a fullback playing the running back position. Play: Giants -6.5

The NFC will have one less playoff contender most likely with the loser of the 49er/Packers game being an after thought. Green Bay’s defense came to play with a different attitude against the Cowboys and if they bring that to the table the rest of the year they should be successful. Aaron Rodgers will face a tough secondary, but has enough weapons to cover this number. Play: Packers -6.5

Vegas has struggled setting a number in any game involving New Orleans lately and the one against a feisty Tampa Bay team seems to be too high once again. The Bucs actually haven’t played bad football the last couple weeks and rookie QB Josh Freeman has looked impressive. New Orleans has struggled to put mediocre teams away and they will be flat in this match-up also. Play: Tampa Bay +11

The Patriots and Jets hook up in a AFC East clash at New England. Tom Brady should have learned from his mistakes he made against the Jets D in their first meeting. New York has won the last two meetings between these two rivals, but are heading in opposite directions this season. The final score in this one could result in more tears from Jets head coach Rex Ryan. Play: Patriots -10.5

It will be the high octane passing attack of the Houston Texans vs. the electrifying running of Titans RB Chris Johnson. Jeff Fisher’s team is finally healthy on the defensive end and no one has an answer on how to stop Johnson. Houston has had two weeks to prepare for this game, but Tennessee is riding a wave of momentum right now. Play: Titans +5

Two teams desperate for a win will hook up in the Windy City Sunday when the Bears take on the Eagles at Solider Field. The Bears have issues at the quarterback position as the expected upgrade with Jay Cutler coming to town has not come to fruition and actually has Bear fans wishing Kyle Orton was still with the team. Philly is coming off two consecutive losses, but only sits one game out of the division lead with a 5-4 record. Someone besides Donovan McNabb will need to step up if the Eagles want to turn their season around and reach the playoffs. The Eagles are a 3 point favorite with a total set at 45.

Philadelphia has arrived at a crossroads for their season. A loss here would definitely put them behind the eight ball for the rest of the year. They are going through a transformation at running back as reliable veteran Brian Westbrook is battling concussion issues and might not return. Rookie RB LeSean McCoy has filled in nicely, but is not the receiving threat out of the backfield that Westbrook is for the pass happy Eagles. McNabb is putting up big numbers even though he missed a couple games earlier this season after an injury against Carolina. He has thrown for 1685 yards and 12 touchdowns against four interceptions. WR DeSean Jackson has emerged as one of the most electrifying playmakers in the NFC as he is a factor in the passing game and on special teams. Jackson leads the team in receiving yards with 621 and is second in touchdown receptions with four. TE Brent Celek is a favorite target for McNabb and has a team high 46 catches in which five have went for scores. The Eagles defense has plenty of talent and the same scheme that former defensive coordinator Jim Johnson ran, but they have given up too many points in recent weeks.

The Bears defense held the 49ers to just 10 points last week so one would expect the Chicago offense to be able to muster up enough points to get a road victory. Jay Cutler had other plans as his five interceptions led to a 10-6 loss and brought every critic in Chicago out of the wood work. The strong armed QB still makes questionable decisions that has led to 17 interceptions in nine games. He has tossed 14 touchdown passes and thrown for over 2353 yards, but no one is focusing on the good just the ugly. The Bears have pretty much abandoned the running game with their prize acquisition in the off season. Matt Forte has just 482 yards rushing and has become mainly a receiver. He has 379 yards receiving although all four of his touchdowns have came on the ground. TE Greg Olson has became a major threat in the red zone as he leads the team in touchdown receptions with six. WR Devin Hester has turned into more than just a return specialist finally and is the Bears version of DeSean Jackson. Chicago needs to get back to Bears football where they used a power running game to setup big plays in the passing game. If they don’t, Cutler could be on his way to 25 plus interceptions.

Philly is a tough team to peg as they looked like a Super Bowl contender before these past two games. The Bears were a dark horse before the season began to challenge in the NFC, but no one could have predicted the awful play of Cutler. Philadelphia is the better team top to bottom and they know they cannot afford to drop three straight in the NFC East. Ride the Eagles to a cover. Play: Eagles -3

The New England Patriots will try and avenge a Week 2 16-9 loss to the Jets when they host their divisional rival on Sunday. New York has gone 2-5 since that win and has a 4-5 record currently. Rookie QB Mark Sanchez’s has came back down to earth after a 2-0 start had the New York faithful calling him the next Broadway Joe. New England is still answering questions about their last second loss at Indianapolis. They will look to move on and forget about last week’s game with a dominating performance this weekend. The Patriots are a 10.5 point favorite with an over/under set at 45.

Head coach Rex Ryan was brought to tears on Monday after his Jets lost a key game at home to the Jacksonville Jaguars on a made field goal as time expired. Frankly, the Jets play recently would bring any coach to tears. No matter how much the media wants to talk about Mark Sanchez’s upside and maturity, he has still played like a rookie for the majority of the season. He has three more interceptions, 12, than touchdown passes and is only completing 53% of his passes. His QB rating is reaching the Mendoza line, but the Jets are still sure that he is the future of their franchise. RB Thomas Jones has been a bright spot for the team, rushing for 781 yards and eight touchdowns. With the season ending injury to backup Leon Washington, rookie Shonn Greene has filled in nicely with over 200 yards on the ground and two scores. Acquiring troubled WR Braylon Edwards has not paid dividends to date as he has just 16 catches and 271 yards since coming over from the Browns. The Jets run defense has went down the tubes since massive DT Kris Jenkins was lost due to injury, but shut down CB Darrelle Revis still leads a strong secondary that ranks 3rd in the league in passing yards allowed.

Sitting at 6-3, the New England Patriots all but lost a chance to secure home field advantage throughout the playoffs with their loss to the Colts. QB Tom Brady has returned to pre-injury form throwing for over 2700 yards and 19 touchdowns with only six interceptions. Much maligned RB Laurence Maroney has emerged as a capable starting back for the Patriots as the former first round pick has rushed for 378 yards and four scores in limited duty. 3rd down back Kevin Faulk is still a huge part of this team as his 25 catches ranks third. All-Pro wide receiver Randy Moss is his usual big play self. He has grabbed 58 balls for a team high 891 yards and hit pay dirt seven times. Moss torched the Colts secondary for 179 yards and two scores. Coach Belichick showed little faith in his defense last week by going for it on 4th and 2 in their own territory. Granted it was a decision based on stopping the best QB in the league, but his defense has actually been good for the most part this season in all facets.

The Patriots are an angry bunch after a tough loss and don’t think the New England offense doesn’t remember how they were dominated by the Jets D in Week 2. This is a different Patriot team and it is also not the same Jets defense. A large number has been set for a match-up that has been won the last two times by the team getting 10.5 points. I think the Pats put a beat down on the reeling Jets and send a message to the rest of the division. Play: New England -10.5
