Bracket Buster Betting Trends - February 18, 2010

I’ve analyzed the last five years of the mid-February mid-major hoops orgy known as Bracket Buster Weekend to see if I could establish any useful betting angles or trends. Instead of working over every single “official” Bracket Buster game I squared my focus on the ones that featuring the mid-major conferences that were routinely wagered upon. That includes the Ohio Valley, Big West, Horizon, Missouri Valley, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Colonial, and Western Athletic. These are...

UNLV vs San Diego State - February 11, 2010

Oddsmakers always have to factor in the “bracket buster” teams when figuring out the NCAA Basketball Tournament Odds, and with UNLV’s history, it’s funny to think of them in this group. The Rebels are looking to get back to the big dance, but they stumbled at home against a conference rival, and now they’ll meet another Mountain West foe who is right on their heels when they head to San Diego State on Saturday night. UNLV vs San Diego State – Saturday, February 13, 4:00 PM ET The No.23...

College Basketball Handicappers - February 1, 2010

We know that there are literally hundreds of college basketball handicappers for you to choose from this season.  So which one should you choose?  Our handicapper leaderboards are a great place to start, but if it’s the beginning of the season or you are looking for something more long-term, the leaderboard might not give you the best indication of who is actually the best at making college basketball picks.  That’s why we’ve complied this list of the top basketball cappers. ...

2009-10 Arizona State Basketball Predictions - November 13, 2009

No team in the Pac-10 was hit harder than the Arizona State Sun Devils by the departure of former players. Coming off a 25-10 season, ASU saw James Harden and Jeff Pendergraph move on to professional basketball and leave a huge void. Herb Sendek will have his hands full finding replacements for these two superstars. A talented group of players return for the Sun Devils though and all will have to take on much more important roles compared to last year. Expect this team to once again being a major...

2009-10 Oregon State NCAA Basketball Predictions - November 13, 2009

A 18-18 season for the usual cellar dweller Oregon State Beavers under first year head coach Craig Robinson left Beaver fans wanting more buckets in Corvallis. OSU really benefited from the addition of the CBI postseason tournament and were even able to win a game in the tourney which could pay dividends for the 2009-2010 season. Robinson hopes to build a program that is competitive year in and year out with the addition of five new players. If all goes according to plan, coach Robinson will no longer...

2009-10 Washigton State Basketball Predictions - November 12, 2009

The Bennett family is no longer apart of the Washington State program as Tony Bennett bolted cross country to take the Virginia Cavalier job. In comes Ken Bone to try and build on the success that the Cougars have had the past few seasons. Bone has a ton of experience, but has yet to coach at this level and will most likely learn along with his young team this season. Taking a bit of the pressure off of Bone is their All-American candidate Klay Thompson. His game should expand as Bone prefers a more...

2009-10 Stanford College Basketball Predictions - November 12, 2009

Duke alum Johnny Dawkins will have his hands full in his second year as head coach of the Stanford Cardinal. The Cardinal lost their top two scorers from a year ago and also their starting point guard. Dawkins led the team to 20 wins in his first year, but they struggled in league play with a dismal 6-12 record. Projected by many to finish dead last in the Pac-10, Stanford will look to rebuild with a young team that will benefit from the experience gained in what could be a long year.  Looking at...

2009-10 UCLA Basketball Predictions - November 11, 2009

One of the most storied college basketball programs in the nation will look to regain their swagger when the UCLA Bruins tip off the 2009-2010 season. Making three consecutive Final Fours from 2006-2008 was an amazing feat, but the Bruins were bounced in the second round by Villanova last season. Head coach Ben Howland will have to do one of his better coaching jobs this year if a young UCLA team is going to have success in the NCAA Tourney. Look for possibly three sophomores to crack the starting...

2009-10 Wisconsin Basketball Predictions - November 10, 2009

It has become an annual occurrence now, every single year Bo Ryan and the Wisconsin Badgers are thought to be down and not a factor in the Big 10 because of key losses of players, but every year the team plays hard-nosed basketball and is a major factor in the conference. The Badgers are the type of team each year that if you look at them on paper doesn’t look that impressive, but they will grind out it with you for 40 minutes and make you look bad. Can they do it again this year? It’s tough...

Iowa College Basketball Predictions 2009-10 - November 10, 2009

The Iowa Hawkeyes were pretty bad last year, and the bad news for Hawkeye basketball fans is that they should be quite a bit worse this year. The Hawkeyes lost four of their top seven scorers from a team that won just 5 of their 18 Big Ten Conference games a year ago. Todd Lickliter is a great young coach that should be able to help this program in the long run, but he will definitely have his work cut out for him this year.  According to the NCAA basketball odds, the Hawks rank near the bottom...

NIT Championship Odds & Picks: Penn State vs Baylor - April 2, 2009

The Baylor Bears come into this game smoking hot. They are scoring at a high pace while shooting a great percentage from the field. I learned this the hard way taking SD State in the semis. LaceDarius Dunn was top notch and Curtis Jerrells was the best player on the court period. While Dunn and Jerrells have been great, Kevin Rogers has been right their next to them for the whole ride. Baylor started the year 13-1 and looked to be a possible threat in the Big-12. Then the Bears took downward spiral...

2009 Final Four Expert Picks - April 2, 2009

This weekend’s Final Four will feature Michigan State taking on Connecticut and Villanova squaring off against North Carolina.  UConn and North Carolina are not very surprising, though many people thought that the Huskies would be the first No. 1 seed eliminated, they are still a number one seed and their appearance here is not that big of a shock.  Michigan State and Villanova, on the other hand, are both unexpected visitors to the Final Four, and both are considered underdogs yet again...

Connecticut Huskies Final Four Betting Preview - April 1, 2009

For Connecticut, it is the program’s third Final Four appearance, all coming within the past decade, with the previous two appearances leading to eventual national titles.  The Huskies are here after a 82-75 win and cover (the spread was 5.5 points) against the Missouri Tigers last Saturday in the regional championship game. The Huskies have managed to cover the spread in all four of their tournament gaes so far.  They scored the third biggest blowout in NCAA tournament history with a 103-47...

2009 Final Four Matchups - March 31, 2009

Villanova vs North Carolina North Carolina Tar Heels : UNC will win as long as they keep doing what they’ve been doing – outscoring anyone that challenges them to run the court and out-hustling their opponents on defense.  Having Ty Lawson back for the title run is HUGE, and as long as he is healthy they are the favorite to win. North Carolina is vulnerable in that they haven’t really had anyone challenge them.  You could argue that LSU game the closest in the 2nd round with the...

Final Four Betting: Stats Overview - March 30, 2009

If you picked all four of the Final Four teams for this year’s bracket, congratulations are due to you!  However, if you’re like the majority of the college basketball betting world (myself included) you probably only picked 1 or 2 of the four correctly (I only had UNC making the Final Four in my bracket this year).  The most popular picks to be this year’s representatives were Louisville, Memphis, Pitt, and North Carolina, so I know some of you out there are feeling my pain! ...

Notre Dame vs Penn State Predictions - March 30, 2009

The Irish are finally playing the kind of ball that everybody expected them to this year. The two faced Irish have at times looked like a top 10 team beating teams like Louisville by thirty points, @ Texas and @ Providence. There is also the other Notre Dame team that could look inept at times losing to teams like St.Johns, Cincinnati and UCLA (a 26 point loss). We live in the present though and right now, they are playing very well. Star forward Luke Harangody and star guard Kyle McAlarney combined...

Oklahoma vs North Carolina - March 29, 2009

The Sooners come into this game off of the tremendous beat down they laid on the Orange of Syracuse. A game in which I predicted not only the outcome, but how the pace would go. Oklahoma also defeated Michigan and Morgan State on their road to the Elite Eight. When you pull out the rosters of these two power houses, you’ll see they really match up well against each other. Both Johnson and Lawson are quick and can shoot. Warren and Ellington are both explosive scorers that can create for themselves....

Villanova vs Pittsburgh Odds & Picks - March 28, 2009

Another game, another scare for the Pitt Panthers. From ETSU to Oklahoma State and now most recently Xavier take Pittsburgh down to the wire. Sloppy play with offensive confusion yet again.. However, as the time reached under one minute to go, Senior point guard Levance Fields did what he seems to do every single game, take a huge shot and drain it with no worry. The panthers have been non impressive in every game so far in this tournament. They did put up 84 points against Oklahoma State but gave...

Missouri vs Connecticut - March 28, 2009

The Missouri Tigers, my personal darling team of the tournament. They won the Big-12 tournament and have not stopped winning ever since. They rolled over Cornell in the first round, then came a tough task against Marquette who came back from a 16 point deficit to actually take a four point lead late, that was until Mizzu put the burners on and took care of business late. Then was my favorite game of the tournament to date. The victory over the wildly overrated Memphis Tigers. They dropped 102 points...

Odds to Win the NCAA Championship for the Syracuse Orange - March 26, 2009

The Syracuse Orange return to the NCAA tournament this year after a two year absence from the event.  2009 marks the 32nd time that Syracuse has made the big dance and they’ve managed to make four Final Four appearances and one National Championship (2003) in their history.  The overall record in the NCAA Tournament is 50-31 after two wins in 2009.  The Orange are now in the Sweet 16 after victories over Stephen F. Austin and Arizona State.  The Cuse entered the tourney as a 3 seed after...

Odds to Win the NCAA Championship for the Villanova Wildcats - March 25, 2009

The 3rd seeded Villanova Wildcats have advanced to the Sweet 16 this year after first and second round wins over American and UCLA, respectively.  Here’s a brief tournament history for the Wildcats:  Villanova holds the distinction of being the team to win the NCAA tournament with the lowest seed in history when they were an 8 seed in 1985.  They’ve been in the NCAA tournament 29 times, have a 44-29 record overall, and have made 3 Final Four appearances.  Nova has made it at least...

2009 NCAA Tournament Odds for the Memphis Tigers - March 25, 2009

Once again the Memphis Tigers are headed to their 4th straight Sweet 16 appearance this week, as the No.2 seeded Tigers are the only team in the country to accomplish such a feat. The Tigers got into the tournament winning both the regular season and conference tournament in Conference USA, and are riding a 25 game winning streak including their two NCAA Tournament wins over Cal State-Northridge and Maryland. The Tigers are fresh off reaching the Championship game a year ago, and were just one shot...

Connecticut Huskies National Championship Odds - March 25, 2009

The NCAA Tournament is in full swing, as the first two rounds are in the book and the final 16 teams remain. This year it has been all about the top seeds, as this year marks the first time that the 1-3 seeds in each bracket have made it to the Sweet 16. The other story has been the dominant performance by the Big East that has sent 5 teams to the Sweet 16, including one from each bracket. One of the Big East teams is the Connecticut Huskies, who are the No.1 seed out of the West. While there is...

Odds to Win the NCAA Tournament Missouri Tigers - March 25, 2009

It’s been a very entertaining start to the NCAA Tournament, as the top 3 seeds in each region have advanced to the Sweet 16 and two of the four No.4 seeds are still dancing as well. I am going to put the focus on the Missouri Tigers, who came into the tournament fresh off their Big 12 Tournament win that earned them a No.3 seed in the West region. The Tigers were considered one of the more dangerous No.3 seeds, and they will have the chance to prove that this week when they take on the No.2...

Purdue Boilermakers Odds to Win NCAA Championship - March 25, 2009

It hasn’t been easy for the Boilermakers this Tournament, but the No.5 seed is still alive and is awaiting a Sweet 16 matchup with the No.1 seeded UConn Huskies. The Boilermakers are one of only two teams that come into the Sweet 16 with a seed lower than a 4, as all twelve 1-3 seeds advanced. The only team seeded lower than the Boilermakers is the No.12 seeded Arizona Wildcats out of the Midwest region. It’s not going to be easy for the Boilermakers, but this tournament has been pretty...
