Bengals Browns Line - September 8, 2011

Two of the NFL’s youngest quarterbacks will square off this Sunday, as the Cincinnati Bengals visit the Cleveland Browns. The Bengals are coming off a disappointing 4-12 season in 2010, and are clearly in a rebuilding phase in 2011. The Browns are also in the midst of rebuilding their franchise. They went just 5-11 last year, but are a little more optimistic about their chances of improving in 2011. For those of you considering wagering on the game this weekend, oddsmakers have Cleveland favored...

This Sunday two of the NFC’s best from a year ago will face off opening week, as the Chicago Bears host the Atlanta Falcons. The game is scheduled for 8:30 ET and will be televised nationally on NBC. Current NFL odds have the Packers favored by 4-points over the Saints with the total set at 47. 2011 NFC South Predictions - August 24, 2011

The NFC South featured three of the conferences best teams in 2010. The New Orleans Saints won the division on their way to a Super Bowl title in 2009, but were overtaken by the Atlanta Falcons in 2010. The Falcons finished with an NFC-best 13-3 mark in the regular season, while the Saints earned a wild card spot with an 11-5 record. Both teams seasons ended rather quickly in the playoffs. New Orleans was upset at Seattle in the first round, while the Falcons got rolled at home by the Packers. The...

2011 NFC West Predictions - August 24, 2011

The NFC West has been the laughing stock of the NFL in recent years. This division is the reason why there is an argument to be made that a team with a losing record should not be in the playoffs, or at least not host a first-round game. Then again, the Seattle Seahawks won the division with a 7-9 record in 2010, and went on to pull off a huge upset over the New Orleans Saints 41-36 in the Wild Card Round. While the NFC West has the least talent of all the divisions, it is arguably the most competitive....

2011 Carolina Panthers Predictions - August 24, 2011

The Carolina Panthers are coming off a miserable 2-14 season. The lone positive out of last season was the Panthers struggles landed them the No.1 pick in the NFL draft, where they selected Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. The addition of Newton has fans believing that the Panthers can turn things around quicker than some might expect, especially when you consider how bad the quarterback play was in 2010. The team will be in the first year under head coach Ron Rivera, which could make it tough for...

2011 Seattle Seahawks Predictions - August 24, 2011

The Seattle Seahawks made a surprising trip to the playoffs in Pete Carroll’s first year as head coach. While they went just 7-9 during the regular season, it proved to be good enough to win the NFC West. Seattle then pulled off the biggest upset of the season, a 41-36 victory over New Orleans in the Wild Card Round. That game featured the best run of the year as well when Marshawn Lynch nearly broke a tackle from every member of the Saints’ defense on his way to the end zone. Carroll vowed to...

2011 Tampa Bay Bucs Predictions - August 24, 2011

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers weren’t expected to even be competitive in 2010 after finishing just 3-13 in 2009, but head coach Raheem Morris led his team to a 10-6 finish. Tampa Bay finished third in the NFC South behind the Falcons and Saints, but still just missed out on the playoffs, losing a tie-breaker to the Green Bay Packers.  Tampa Bay is extremely young and should only continue to get better with more experience. They didn’t make hardly any moves this offseason, which says a lot...

2011 New Orleans Saints Predictions - August 23, 2011

The New Orleans Saints backed up their Super Bowl win with another playoff appearance, expect things ended rather quickly for New Orleans in 2010. The Saints finished second in the NFC South with a 11-5 regular season mark, earning them a wild card game against the Seattle Seahawks, who won the NFC West with a 7-9 record. New Orleans loss in a shootout 36-41, but that loss seems to have motivated this team to really come back strong in 2011. Let’s take a look at what the Saints will send to...

2011 San Francisco 49ers Predictions - August 23, 2011

Many experts have been calling the San Francisco 49ers the most talented team in the NFC West for years now. This is a team that simply hasn’t lived up to expectations. While you could argue that they were the best team in the West with a 4-2 division record last season, the 49ers went just 6-10 overall. They faltered down the stretch when they legitimately had a shot to win the division. Enter Jim Harbaugh. Their hew head coach looks to inject life into the franchise, while maximizing the talent...

2011 Atlanta Falcons Predictions - August 23, 2011

The Atlanta Falcons finished the 2010 season with an NFC-best 13-3 regular season record, but that didn’t amount to anything in the playoffs. The Falcons were crushed 21-48 by the Green Bay Packers at home in the divisional round. Outside of drafting wide out Julio Jones and signing free agent defensive end Ray Edwards, Atlanta didn’t do a lot to the roster from last year. Here is a closer look at what the Falcons will send to the field on both sides of the ball, plus my thoughts on where...

2011 NFC North Predictions - August 23, 2011

The Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers were the favorites to win the NFC North coming into last season, but it was the Chicago Bears who ended up stealing the top spot with a 11-5 regular season mark. The Packers would join the Bears in the playoffs with a 10-6 record. Oddly enough, these two teams would face off in the NFC Championship game, with the Packers taking down the Bears 21-14 on their way to a Super Bowl win. As for the Vikings, they ended up finishing tied with the Detroit Lions...

2011 St. Louis Rams Predictions - August 23, 2011

The St. Louis Rams are coming off a very productive season in Steve Spagnuolo’s second year as head coach. St. Louis won more games (seven) in 2010 than they won in their previous three seasons (six) combined. A big reason was the play of QB Sam Bradford, who earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors for his efforts. The Rams even had a chance to win the division up until the final game of the season, a 6-16 loss at Seattle, which sent the Seahawks to the playoffs. With a proven QB under center...

2011 Minnesota Vikings Predictions - August 23, 2011

After coming up just short in the 2009 playoffs, the Minnesota Vikings decided to bring back veteran quarterback Brett Favre for one more run. Unfortunately for the Vikings, Favre didn’t live up to his 2009 season, spending most of the season struggling to just stay on the field. Minnesota ended up finishing the season 6-10, tied for last in the NFC North with the Detroit Lions. Head coach Brad Childress was fired after 10 games, opening the door for Leslie Frazier, who was locked in as the...

2011 Green Bay Packers Predictions - August 23, 2011

The Green Bay Packers are coming off a statement season in 2010, as they won the Super Bowl despite  a number of key injuries. For a while it looked as though the Packers were going to just miss out on the postseason, but they ended up winning their final two games to just sneak into one of the Wild Card spots. The Packers continued their impressive run with wins at Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Chicago, before finally beating the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. The Packers didn’t make a ton of moves...

2011 Arizona Cardinals Predictions - August 23, 2011

The Arizona Cardinals headed into the offseason needing as big of a makeover as any team in the league. Arizona went 5-11 last season, finishing 31st in total offense and 29th in total defense. They didn’t realize how much they would miss Kurt Warner after he led the Cardinals to back-to-back division titles before retiring. You have to give Arizona credit for not drafting a quarterback, selecting can’t-miss CB Patrick Peterson instead with their fifth overall pick. They traded away their top...

2011 Detroit Lions Predictions - August 23, 2011

The Detroit Lions closed out the 2010 season with four straight wins to finish the year 6-10 overall. While it’s hard to get excited about a losing season, it was four more wins than the Lions had combined in the previous two seasons. Detroit has put together a young nucleus of talent under head coach Jim Schwartz, and could be ready to make a huge jump in 2011. Seven of the Lions 10 losses last year came by eight-points or less. Let’s take a look at what Detroit will be sending out to...

2011 Chicago Bears Predictions - August 23, 2011

With the way the Green Bay Packers finished last season by winning the Super Bowl, few remember that the Chicago Bears won the NFC North with a 11-5 regular season mark. The Bears made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game, before losing to the Packers 14-21. That playoff lost stirred up all kinds of drama regarding quarterback Jay Cutler, who left the game with a questionable knee injury.  Whether or not the Bears can get back to the playoffs in 2011, will depend largely on the health of...

2011 NFC East Predictions - August 23, 2011

Heading into last year the Dallas Cowboys were expected to take down the NFC East, but things went terribly wrong. Dallas ended up finishing tied with the Washington Redskins at 6-10 overall. The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants both ended the year tied on top of the division with a 10-6 record, but the Eagles held the tiebreaker with two wins against the Giants in the regular season. That put the Eagles into the No. 2 spot in the NFC playoffs, while the Giants were forced to watch the postseason...

2011 Washington Redskins Predictions - August 19, 2011

The Washington Redskins had a difficult first season under new head coach Mike Shanahan, as the veteran coach butted heads with quarterback Donovan McNabb and defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth. The hope that with both players removed from the 2011 roster, Shanahan will have Washington competing at a much higher level than their 6-10 record of 2010. Washington is known for spending big money on free agents, but they have got rid of more big name than they have added this offseason. Here is a closer...

2011 Philadelphia Eagles Predictions - August 19, 2011

The Philadelphia Eagles won the NFC East with a 10-6 regular season record, earning them the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs. The Eagles hopes for another Super Bowl run were put to rest in their first game, as they fell to the Green Bay Packers 16-21 at home. Philadelphia feels like they are on the verge of something great, and have opened up the checkbooks this offseason to put together what some are calling the “Dream Team.” To give you a better idea of what the Eagles will look like...

2011 New York Giants Predictions - August 19, 2011

The New York Giants just missed out on the playoffs in 2010, finishing the regular season with a 10-6 mark. New York was sitting in great shape at 9-4, but lost two of their final three, including that huge collapse at home against the Eagles. The Giants have been relatively quiet so far this offseason, staying away from most of the top free agents. General manager Jerry Reese believes that this team can win with the players it has. Here is a closer look at what the Giants will send to the field...

2011 Dallas Cowboys Predictions - August 18, 2011

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off one of the most disappointing seasons in franchise history. Dallas came into the season expecting to become the first team to make the Super Bowl and play on their home field, but instead they completely fell off the map and finished the year 6-10. Wade Phillips was replaced midway through the season by current head coach Jason Garrett, and he did a nice job of getting the team to respond late in the year. The Cowboys haven’t done a whole lot this offseason,...

2011 AFC South Predictions - August 17, 2011

Even when the Indianapolis Colts aren’t at their best, they proved they are still more than capable of winning the AFC South. Battling a number of injuries to key players on both sides of the ball, it looked as though the Colts would possibly miss the playoffs for the first time in nine years. The Jacksonville Jaguars had a chance to take complete control with a win in Indy in week 15, but they would lose that game and the following two to finish 8-8. The Colts wound up winning their final...
