2011 Missouri Football Predictions - June 23, 2011

It was a rough start at Missouri for head coach Gary Pinkel, who suffered through two losing seasons in his first two years on the job. Pinkel has led the Tigers to bowl games in seven of the past eight season since, including a trip to the Insight Bowl last year where they would lose to Iowa 24-27. Missouri still put together a 10-win season, losing only twice in Big 12 play. They upset Oklahoma 36-27 at home for their signature win. The Tigers return 15 starters this season with nine on offense...

2011 Colorado Football Predictions - June 23, 2011

The Colorado Buffaloes get ready for their first season in the PAC-12, as they along with the Utah Utes joined what was formally known as the PAC-10. Colorado finished 2010 5-7 overall and just 2-6 in the Big 12. The Buffaloes are hoping the conference switch will lead to more wins, as they haven’t had a winning season since going 7-6 in 2006. The Big 12 has been the more steady conference over the years, but the Buffaloes have benefited from playing in a terrible Big 12 North division. 2011...

2011 Arizona Football Predictions - June 22, 2011

The Arizona Wildcats went into the 2010 season with the expectation that they were going to compete for a conference title. Things didn’t exactly go as planned. Arizona finished the year 7-5 overall, but were just 4-5 in the PAC-10. They also ended the year with a bad 10-36 loss against Oklahoma State in the Alamo Bowl. Looking ahead to the 2011 season the Wildcats will have to make due with just 10 starters back. They bring back some big time players on both sides of the ball, but will need...

2011 Utah Football Predictions - June 22, 2011

2011 will mark the first year the Utah Utes compete in the newly formed PAC-12, which also added the University of Colorado this season. The Utes come over from the Mountain West Conference. In 2010 the Utes finished second in the MWC with a 7-1 conference record. They ended the season with a disappointing 26-3 loss to Boise State in the Las Vegas Bowl, but still finished the season with an overall record of 10-3. While the level of competition will be much tougher in the PAC-12, Utah could have...

2011 UCLA Football Predictions - June 22, 2011

The UCLA Bruins are coming off their second 4-8 finish in the last three years, and were a miserable 2-7 in conference play last season. There is some hope that head coach Rick Neuheisel can get things turned around in 2011. UCLA has 17 starters back (Most PAC-12), and should be much improved offensively in the second year of the pistol formation. If Neuheisel doesn’t get this team to improve, it could very well be his last with the Bruins. To get idea of where this team is headed in 2011,...

2011 Arizona State Football Predictions - June 22, 2011

The Arizona State Sun Devils finished the 2010 season with a disappointing 6-6 record overall and 4-5 record in what was then the PAC-10. What really has to eat at this team is they had four losses by four-points or less and only lost to Oregon by 11. With 15 starters back for the 2011 season Arizona State will likely come into year as the favorites to win the South. The only team that figures to challenge them is USC, but they aren’t eligible to play in the inaugural Pac-12 Title game. Here...

2011 USC Football Predictions - June 22, 2011

The USC Trojans struggled to an 8-5 finish in the first year under head coach Lane Kiffin. While an 8-5 season would be a great season for many teams, it doesn’t come close to the standard that Pete Carroll set at this university. Some of the struggles last year likely had to do with the fact that they were suspended from postseason play, leaving them little to play for. They won’t be eligible again in 2011, but there is enough talent on this team to not only be one of the best in the...

2011 Oklahoma State Football Predictions - June 21, 2011

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are coming off of the most successful season in the history of their program. They put together their first-ever 11-win season against just two losses. Their two losses came at home against Nebraska and Oklahoma, but they went unbeaten on the road and also topped Arizona in the Alamo Bowl 36-10. The Cowboys featured one of the most explosive offenses in the country and should be exciting to watch once again in 2011. They have 14 starters coming back, including nine on offense. Mike...

2011 Iowa Football Predictions - June 21, 2011

Iowa is coming off a disappointing season as they went 8-5 in 2010, losing five games in which they were tied or had the lead in the fourth quarter. A huge senior class departs, taking with them eleven starters, including six NFL draft choices. Iowa fought off-the field-issues at the end of the season, dismissing WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos from the team and suspending TB Adam Robinson for the bowl game (Robinson was eventually dismissed from the team altogether for an arrest the night before the...

2011 Travelers Championship Predictions - June 21, 2011

After a thrilling week at Congressional, where 22-year-old Rory McIllroy dominated the field at the U.S. Open, the PGA TOUR season continues on with the 2011 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.  While McIllroy and many of the other big names won’t be in action this week, eight players who finished in the top 25 at U.S. Open will. This tournament has followed the U.S. Open since 2003, and has been a pleasant stop for those who have struggled with the grueling challenge of the second...

2011 Nebraska Football Predictions - June 21, 2011

Nebraska enters its first season confident that they can challenge for the league’s BCS bid. Bo Pelini’s squad should be solid defensively, but have to replace six key pieces from the offense including three offensive linemen. Defensively Nebraska loses only six players from the defense, but the Huskers played a lot of different players and return their top seven on the defensive line, experience at linebacker and four defensive backs. They may have to play more 4-3 in the transition to the Big...

2011 Washington State Football Predictions - June 21, 2011

It hasn’t been pretty for the Washington State Cougars of late. They went just 2-10 overall and 1-5 in conference play last year, and are just 5-32 overall and 2-25 in the PAC-12 over the last three years. While it remained a struggle to win games, Washington State was a lot more competitive in 2010 and should have one of their best teams under head coach Paul Wulff in 2011 with 15 starters back. To get a better idea of what to expect from the Cougars in 2011, here is a closer look at who they...

2011 Texas Football Predictions - June 21, 2011

The Texas Longhorns are coming off the most disastrous season in the Mack Brown era. Texas went 5-7 last year and did not reach a bowl game for the first time since Brown took over as head coach back in 1998. The Longhorns may have suffered from an emotional hangover from losing in the BCS title game to Alabama the previous year. They even lost five games in Austin to the likes of UCLA, Iowa State and Baylor among others, while also getting blown out at Kansas State by 25 points. Needless to say,...

2011 California Football Predictions - June 21, 2011

It was an up and down season for the California Golden Bears in 2010. They ended up finishing the year 5-7 overall and 3-6 in conference play.  They  nearly pulled off the upset of the year at home against Oregon, but ended up losing 13-15. It was the only conference game that the Ducks didn’t win by 10 points or more. One problem for California last year was their inability to play well on the road. They went just 1-4 away from home. That is a big concern heading into the 2011 season, as...

2011 Michigan State Football Predictions - June 20, 2011

Key player losses, a hard look at last season’s performance and an examination of this year’s schedule show a potentially difficult season for Michigan State in 2011. The Spartans do return some talent, including QB Kirk Cousins and three quality tailbacks, led by Edwin Baker, plus depth at both the receiver and tight end positions. Unfortunately the defense loses key play makers Greg Jones and Eric Gordon, along with trouble-but-talented corner Chris L. Rucker. Mark D’Antonio has steadily...

2011 Minnesota Football Predictions - June 20, 2011

Minnesota is transitioning from volatile head coach Tim Brewster to the quiet and effective Jerry Kill (Northern Illinois). Kill understands that he is walking into to a tough situation and that he doesn’t have the depth or talent of a championship-caliber Big Ten team. He is bringing most of his coaching staff to join the Golden Gophers.  Kill also brings good recruiting connections in Illinois. This is likely at least a three-year work-in-progress, but the Gophers should be a much more consistent...

2011 Wisconsin Football Predictions - June 20, 2011

The Badgers head into 2011 looking to reload and repeat as Co-Big Ten Champs (they shared the title with Ohio State and Michigan State). Wisconsin could be the program best poised to take advantage of the fall out at Ohio State, as they are coming off of back-to-back 10+ win seasons. Bret Bielema has the Badgers in position to take the initial Leaders Division title as he has recruited extremely well over his five years at the helm. Wisconsin lost several key pieces on offense, but managed to hold...

2011 Michigan Football Predictions - June 20, 2011

Michigan is heading towards the future by getting in touch with their past. “Michigan Man” Brady Hoke, a defensive assistant at Michigan from 1995-2002 has taken the reins from Rich Rodriguez and will install more traditional offensive and defensive sets.  He has already done a nice job of turning around Ball State and San Diego State in his previous head coaching gigs, but this will be his most daunting task to date. He has done a good job on the recruiting trail for the ’12 class and also...

2011 Penn State Football Predictions - June 20, 2011

Penn State enters 2011 looking to improve upon a 7-6 injury-marred season. Joe Paterno’s squad returns a deep and experienced defense that has as much depth as any team in the Big Ten. They are deep at every unit on the defensive side of the ball, boast at least nine players who started last season and no less than 15 players who saw a lot of action throughout the year. Questions at QB could hinder Penn State if neither Matt McGloin nor Rob Bolden seize the job before the season begins. The Nittany...

2011 Texas A&M Football Predictions - June 16, 2011

Mike Sherman took the step forward that is expected from most head coaches in their third year when he led the Texas A&M Aggies to a 9-4 record in 2010. They went 6-2 within their conference for a third place finish in the Big 12 South. After a 3-3 start, this team reeled off six straight victories before losing to LSU in their bowl game. That included a 33-19 home win over Oklahoma, who will be ranked #1 in the preseason polls. The Aggies welcome back 18 starters this season along with 80.3%...

The Washington Huskies didn’t exactly have the season they were hoping for with starting quarterback Jake Locker deciding to skip the NFL Draft for his senior season. Washington finished the regular season just 6-6, but did manage to go 5-4 in conference play. The Huskies suffered an embarrassing 56-21 loss to Nebraska in the third game of the season, but went on to beat the Cornhuskers 19-7 in the Holiday Bowl to finish the year off with a winning record at 7-6.  Looking ahead to the 2011...

When Bob Stoops arrived in Oklahoma, the Sooners were coming off of five consecutive losing seasons. He won a national title in just his second season and has played in three more since. After a 12-2 campaign in 2010, and with more returning talent than any team in the country, the Sooners are primed to make another run at a championship in 2011. Oklahoma welcomes back eight starters on both sides of the ball from a team that won the Big 12 title and a BCS bowl game. Since 1998, OU has been ranked...

2011 Oregon State Football Predictions - June 16, 2011

The Oregon State Beavers head into the 2011 season off a disappointing 5-7 season in 2010. It was the Beavers first losing season since going 5-6 in 2005. In 2006 the Beavers responded with an impressive 10-4 season,  but it another big turnaround doesn’t seem likely in 2011 with just 12 starters back from last year. Only four of those starters are back on the defensive side of the ball, and that is the one unit you need to be strong at if you want to have a lot of success in the PAC-12. To...
