Central Florida at Kansas State

This Saturday the Kansas State Wildcats will host the Central Florida Knights in what should be a solid non-conference football matchup. Kansas State improved to 3-0 on the season with a nice 27-20 win over Big 12 rival Iowa State, while the Knights moved to 2-1 on the season with a 24-10 win at Buffalo. If you are thinking about betting on this game, the current odds have Kansas State favored by  7-points over Central Florida at home.

Central Florida (2-1): After a 28-21 loss against North Carolina State at home, the Knights responded with a nice win at Buffalo. With the game tied at 10-10 going into the fourth quarter, the Knights got a big time performance from running back Ronnie Weaver, as he scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to secure the win. The defense also needs some credit for the win, as they kept Buffalo from putting any points on the board in the final period of play. The defense did allow 326 yards of total offense to Buffalo, but had two big turnovers, including a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown by Bruce Miller.

Quarterback Jeffrey Goddfrey completed 15 of 24 passes for 130 yards, and finished second on the team with 44 yards on 13 carries. Weaver led the Knights with 49 yards on just eight carries, but no carries were bigger than his two fourth quarter touchdowns. The Knights will likely turn to the run often against Kansas State, as the Wildcats have allowed at least 166 yards on the ground in each of their three games this season.

Kansas State (3-0): The Wildcats got another huge performance out of running back Daniel Thomas, as he scored the go ahead touchdown with just under seven minutes to play in the fourth quarter. Thomas carried a heavy workload for the Wildcats last Saturday, as he ran the ball 34 times for 181 yards and two touchdowns. Thomas has really got off to a great start this season, as he has 552 yards and six touchdowns in three games.

Quarterback Carson Coffman struggled throwing the football against Iowa State, as he completed just 6 of 12 passes for 104 yards, and threw his first interception of the season. It is a good thing the offense has been playing well to start the season, as the defense has allowed at least 20-points in all three games. As long as Thomas continues running the ball the way he has in the first three games, the Wildcats are going to be a very tough team to beat.

Looking at the Odds: I think the smart play in this game is to give the points and take Kansas State, as I think the Knights will have no answer for Thomas in this game. So far Kansas State has won each game by at least seven points, and I think they have no problem pulling off that feat this weekend.  The Wildcats are  6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games, and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a home favorite. My final score prediction is Kansas State 29, UCF 21.
