Central Michigan at Temple

This Thursday the Central Michigan Chippewas and theĀ Temple Owls will square off in a MAC showdown, as the two teams both kick off their Mid-American Conference schedule. The two teams are in different division and did not face off last year, but they have met two times before, with Central Michigan winning both games by two touchdowns or more.
The Chippewas opened the 2010 season with a 33-0 win over a far less talented Hampton team. Central Michigan scored 16 points in a matter of a minute early in the first quarter, and never looked back. Sophomore quarterback Ryan Radcliff finished with 242 yards and 1 touchdown on 20 of 34 passing. Running back Paris Cotton ran the ball 18 times for 94 yards and a touchdown, while senior Carl Volny added 112 all-purpose yards and a score to help the Chippewas take home the win. The defense allowed just 129 total yards and forced two turnovers.
Temple also started the season off with a win, as they needed a late 4th quarter rally to hold off Villanova. The Owls trailed 20-13 early in the fourth quarter, but after a field goal and a long touchdown pass were able to take the lead 22-21. The Owls then surrendered a field goal to Villanove late, before getting the ball back and driving down the field for a last second field goal to take the lead 25-24. Villanova fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Temple returned it to the house to win by a final of 31-24. Quarterback Chester Stewart threw for 200 yards and one touchdown, while running backs Bernard Pierce and Matt Brown combined for 129 yards and a score.
Looking at the Odds: I like the Owls to chances to win this game, but I am not sold on them covering the 8-point spread. The Chippewas are 2-0-1 when they start the season off on the road against an MAC opponent. I think the smart play is to take the points and go with Central Michigan in this one, as I was not impressed with the Owls performance against Villanova. There is a powerful system that also points to Central Michigan covering the spread, as you want to bet on underdogs of 3.5 to 10 points (C MICHIGAN) – after 1 or more consecutive wins against the spread, in the first two weeks of the season, as this system is 56-24 (70%) since 1992.
Got something to say?
