Central Michigan vs Ball State Football Betting Odds & Spread

Written November 18, 2008 by Jason Lowry

This Wednesday the MAC has one of its biggest games so far this season, as the No. 14 ranked Ball State Cardinals (10-0) look to remain perfect on the season when they travel to take on the two time defending MAC Conference champions in the Central Michigan Chippewas (8-2). Now Ball State might have the better record overall going into this one, but both teams are 6-0 in conference play with just two games remaining, but its not just them as Western Michigan sits at 6-1 with a matchup against Ball State in the final regular season game. Now there is no question the Cardinals have more to lose going into this one, as a perfect record and Conference Championship will likely land them in a big time bowl game this season. For those of you looking to do a little NCAA football betting this week, the oddsmakers have Ball State 7 point favorites over the Chippewas at Bookmaker.com.

The Cardinals come into the big game this week, fresh off an easy 31-16 road win over Miami(Ohio). The Cardinals started off a little slow, but finally found its groove with a 17 point 2nd quarter. The Cardinals had 484 yards of total offense, and got a big games from both quarterback Nate Dave and running back MiQuale Lewis. Davis got the Cardinals on the board first with a 17 yard pass to Darius Hill, and then scored the 2nd Cardinal touchdown on a one yard run. Davis was a force on the ground, as the back totaled 165 yards on 26 carries and the Cardinals final two scores on 1 yard touchdown runs. The Cardinals offense better not fall asleep for long this week, as the Chippewas come averaging over 30 points a game during its current 6 game winning streak.

The Cardinals defense did a real good job of stepping up their play when Miami found its way into enemy territory, as the Cardinals forced the Red Hawks into 3 field goal attempts while allowing just 1 touchdown on a 49 yard pass from Daniel Raudabaugh to Chris Givens. The defense was very good against the run giving up just 76 yards, but struggled against the pass giving up 254 yards. This should be a slight concern for the game this week, as the Chippewas have a very solid passing game this season. Bet Ball State -7 at Bookmaker.com

If college football has taught us anything, its that no team is safe, and playing on the road can lead to big upsets and ruined seasons. This week the Chippewas are hoping for that exact thing to happen, as they look for their 3rd straight Conference Championship. The Chippewas nearly loss that chance last week when they took on Northern Illinois, as the Chippewas were outscored 27-7 in the 2nd half to force overtime, but were fortunate to hold on for a 33-30 win in overtime. The Chippewas ran all over Northern Illinois, as they had 241 yards on the ground, with quarterback Dan LeFevour leading the way with 121 yards. LeFevour had a good start through the air with 2 first half touchdown strikes, but the passing game really stalled in the 2nd half.

The Chippewas defense, also had a good showing against the run, as they allowed the Huskies just 80 yards on 35 carries, but the fact that this team gave up 288 yards and 27 points in the 2nd half, shows that this team has plenty of flaws on this side of the ball. Now for upsets to happen usually the defense of the home team will respond by playing at a much higher level than normal. The Chippewas need a big game on this side of the ball, as its unlikey the offense is going to be able to have an easy time putting points on the board against a solid Ball State defense.
