Chad Dawson v. Glen Johnson Predictions, Odds, & Picks
Boxing fans are set for a full day of action as there are four big fights taking place this Saturday April 12th. With two fights going down in Jersey, and two more in Tampa, FL. One of the big fights this weekend will see Chad “Bad” Dawson vs. Glen “Gentlemen” Johnson. They are one of the two big fights taking place in Tampa at the St Pete Times Forum. The WBC light heavyweight title will be up for grabs when these two guys square off this weekend. Chad Dawson comes in as the big favorite this week as expected when you are undefeated and the holder of a championship belt. That doesn’t mean this won’t be a fight, as Johnson should put a solid fight. Here is a look at both fighters and what they are bringing to the fight, and our prediction on who will walk away the winner in Tampa.Chad Dawson -360 at Sportsbook.com
Dawson was born in South Carolina, but has made Connecticut his home. He comes in with a 25-0 record with 1 no contest and 17 of his wins coming by knockout. The reason for the no contest came back in 2004 after he was suspended for 6 months for drug problems. This didn’t seem to slow the guy down, as he has came back and looks stronger than ever. Johnson is only 25 and captured the WBC light heavyweight title back in 2007 at the age of 24, when he beat the undefeated Tomasz Adamek. This will mark his third title defense and will be tested by the veteran Johnson. So at such a young age there is still a lot ahead of Dawson and with another victory he could be setting himself up for a real test against a boxer such as Antonio Tarver.
Glen Johnson +280 at Sportsbook.com
The Jamaican born Johnson is no slouch himself as he comes in with a 47-11-2 record, with 32 of those wins coming by knock out. While he might be past his prime this former IBF light heavyweight champion, has knocked out the likes of Roy Jones Jr. in 2004, when he took home the USA Today Fighter of the Year honors. Johnson has also beat the likes of Clinton Woods and Antonio Tarver, who both will be fighting for that same IBF light heavyweight title that Johnson once held. So there is no doubt that Johnson is a very capable fighter, and could take home the victory this weekend. He is coming in winning his last 3 fights all by knock out. The 39 year old would love to end Dawson’s winning streak and give him his first loss of his professional career.
Winner: Glen Johnson +280 at Sportsbook.com
We are going with the upset here in Johnson. We think that the old guy has a couple big fights left in the tank, and will be able to out box the young stud in Chad Dawson. The experience factor is easily in the favor of Johnson; we also like the talent that Johnson has went up against in his career compared to that of Dawson. This will be the best fight of the weekend. We see Johnson winning by split decision and regaining his IBF title.
