Chargers at Titans NFL Odds

Written December 22, 2009 by Kyle Hunter

The NFL will be playing on Christmas Day this year and the prime time match up is between the San Diego Chargers and the Tennessee Titans. These two teams are two of the hottest teams in the NFL right now, but in Tennessee’s case it is likely that they got hot far too late. San Diego’s hard fought last second victory over the Bengals put them solidly in the 2nd position in the AFC and in position for a Bye week in the playoffs. Tennessee won for the 7th time in games, but they are just now back to 7-7 and their playoff hopes are very slim. The San Diego Chargers are definitely firing on all cylinders right now. Phillip Rivers is having a real breakout season and is definitely part of the MVP conversation for this year. Rivers has thrown 25 touchdowns and 9 interceptions and has thrown for 3,891 yards. The Chargers offense has not scored less than 21 points in any single game this year, so they have definitely produced very nicely. The running game hasn’t gotten things going well, but the passing games has picked it up and they have converted their opportunities into touchdowns brilliantly. Antonio Gates continues to show why he is the best tight end in football and Vincent Jackson is having a big year on the outside. The Chargers defense started out a little slowly, but they are giving up 20 points per game and have come up with big stops when needed.

It really is a shame that the Titans started the season 0-6 because right now they certainly look worthy of a playoff berth, but it is almost impossible unless things fall just the right way for them. Every game counts the same though, and their brutal start is really crushing their hopes now. Vince Young has been starting at quarterback for the Titans and he has done a very good job. Young has thrown just 4 interceptions and is averaging 5.2 yards per carry when he scrambles as well. Chris Johnson is having an absolutely stellar season at running back. Johnson has rushed for more than 100 yards in an amazing nine straight games, tying the NFL record. With both Young and Johnson in the backfield defenses have two great runners to be concerned about at all times. The Titans defense had a horrific start to the year, but they have looked pretty decent of late. In their last 3 games they are allowing just 19 points per game.

The NFL betting lines for this week show the Titans as a 3 point home favorite. The posted total set on this game is 47 points. If you are making NFL predictions on this game keep in mind that the Chargers are 5-0 against the spread in their last 5 mettings, but they have basically wrapped up the 2 seed as well.

This should be a very interesting match up. Can the Chargers stop Chris Johnson’s amazing streak of 100 plus yard games? Can the Titans slow down the great pass offense of the Chargers? These two teams don’t like each other and a very physical game should be expected this Friday evening.

I have been hitting the mark very often of late, hitting 60% on my last 30 top plays and crushing the books in college basketball and college football. I’ve found some values in the bowl games in college football and the pro football card this weekend as well.
