San Diego Chargers at Buffalo Bills NFL Picks & Odds
Written October 17, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Editors Note: Jason Lowry has his NFL GAME OF THE WEEK going on the Chargers Bills game this weekend.
This week the San Diego Chargers (3-3) look to get above .500 for the first time this season when they head to Buffalo to take on the 4-1 Bills. Last week the Chargers came through with a much needed and impressive win over the Patriots at home 30-10, while the Bills used their bye week to get rested and ready to make big run the rest of the season. The oddsmakers see this one coming down to the wire, as the Bills are just 1 point favorites to win over the Chargers at BetUS.com
The Chargers scored early and often last week in their win against the Patriots, as they got off to an early 17-3 halftime lead. While LaDainian Tomlinson continues to struggle to get it going like he has in years past, Philip Rivers continues to look like a big time quarterback, as he threw for 306 yards and 3 scores against the Pats, and had quite the hookup going with Vincent Jackson who had 5 catches for 134 yards and a score. Don’t expect Tomlinson to have a breakout game this week, as the Bills have one of the better run defense giving up just 93.8 yards a game.

The Chargers defense made sure the Patriots continued to look out of place without Tom Brady at quarterback, and giving up just 3 points in the fist 3 quarters was pretty much all the defense needed to do, as by the time the Patriots found the endzone it was already over. The Chargers did a great job of getting to the quarterback, as they sacked Cassel 4 times, and sent him scampering out of the pocket all day long. Look for the Chargers to get to Bills quarterback Trent Edwards who knocked out of the Bills last game with a concussion. Bet Chargers +1 at BetUs.com
Without Edwards for the duration of the whole game, as he left in the first quarter, the Bills suffered their first loss of the season. While JP Losman did a pretty good job coming off the bench completing 15/21 passes for 220 yards and a score, but there is no question that this is a better team with Edwards under center. Marshawn Lynch had his worst game of the season running for just 55 yards on 13 carries, and the likely has to do with the team trailing big for the whole 2nd half. Look for Lynch to get back on track this week, as the Chargers have the 25th ranked rush defense giving up nearly 137 yards a game.
The Bills defense had really play well all season long keeping teams from putting up a lot of points and creating turnovers, but that wasn’t the case in their last game against the Cardinals, as they gave up 41 points and let Kurt Warner throw all over them for 250 yards and 2 scores. Look for the Chargers to try and attack the Bills secondary again this week, but we think the Bills will play a much better defense at home this week. Bet Bills -1 at BetUS.com
