San Diego Chargers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers NFL Betting Odds & Spread
Written November 14, 2008 by Jason Lowry

This Sunday the 4-5 San Diego Chargers try and stay alive in the playoff picture when they head east to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers, who look to rebound off a tough loss to the Colts last week at home. The Chargers on the other hand had the scare of their season, as they nearly let the Chiefs come into town and pull of the huge upset. Now the Steelers need this win just as bad as the Chargers do, as a loss this week could knock them out of first place in their division. For those of you looking to do some NFL betting this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Steelers 5.5 point favorites at home over the Chargers at Sportsbook.com
The Chargers nearly lost their 2nd game of the season by the other team going for a 2pt conversion to win the game, but found a way to keep the Chiefs out of the endzone, and took home a 20-19 win. The Chargers surprisingly didn’t have much success on the ground against a Chiefs defense that has given up huge numbers this season, as LT had just 78 yards on 22 carries. Now Philip Rivers threw for 316 yards and 2 scores, but had to big interceptions to go along with it. Antonio Gates continued his great play with an 8 catch 66 yard performance with a touchdown. This unit better get it together quick or its going to be too late, and the Chargers are going to have one of their most disappointing season ever.
The defense for the Chargers can’t feel too bad that they let Tyler Thigpen carve them up for 266 yards and 3 scores, and had the Chiefs not missed an extra point earlier in the game they could of kicked one to win it at the end of regulation. Now Thigpen has really played well of late so its hard to get to worked up about how they fair against the pass, and they did a solid job against the run giving up just 76 yards total on the ground, but this unit is better than they are playing, and until they get it figured out they are going to keep continue to have close games week in and week out. The Steelers really let the game get away from them last week against the Colts, and a lot of it had to do with the bad decisions Ben Roethlisberger made in the the throwing game, as Big Ben had 3 interceptions and really gave the Colts too many chances in this one. Roethlisberger did have 284 yards through the air, but the Steelers only two touchdowns came on short runs by Mewelde Moore early in the game. This week the Steelers are hoping Willie Parker can get back in action, as the star back has played just 1 out of the last 6 games. If Parker can get it going, look for this offense to get back on track as they need a good running game to take the pressure off Roethlisberger’s arm.
Its hard to blame the Steelers defense for the loss last week, as they were put into to many short fields, and it doesn’t really matter who you are, if you give Peyton Manning enough shots at it, he is going to get the job done, and Manning did just that last week throwing for 240 yards and 3 scores, but the Steelers did do an excellent job against the run, giving up just 62 yards on the ground. Look for this defense to come in fired up, as its rare to ever see these guys lose 2 straight at home. Bet Steelers -5.5 at Sportsbook.com
