Chevy Rock & Roll 400 Picks
Written by Jason Lowry
What a season it has been in NASCAR as Kyle Busch stormed onto the scene and made it clear that he is a force in this sport, along with the great season Carl Edwards has put together, and the feud between these two drivers has really made for an exciting season. While for these two drivers and 10 others the season will continue after the running of this weeks 2008 Chevy Rock & Roll 400, but for many it will be their farewell to the 2008 Sprint Cup season. The final 12 is not set in stone and drivers like Kasey Kahne and David Ragan have a shot a sneaking in with a good finish this weekend. The guy that made the most noise last week at the Pepsi 500 was Jimmie Johnson as he moved up 4 spots in the point standings to 3rd, and it just so happens Johnson is the defending champion of the race this weekend. While its anyones race Jason Lowry is going to bring you 3 drivers from all over the field that we think have a good shot at winning the final regular season race.
Favorite: Kyle Busch +500 odds
The way that Busch has raced here at Richmond over the last 3 years has a thinking this guy has a real good chance of winning the race this weekend. With 3 runner up performance and six top 5 finishes in 7 races here, there is no reason to think that the best driver of 2008 can’t add to his win total again. Busch has looked like the favorite to win the playoffs this season, and a win this weekend will quiet those talks rising on the recent success of Carl Edwards and Jimmie Johnson.
Middle of the Pack: Kasey Kahne +1500
While its hard to imagine Kahne out of the picture in the top 12 after his two wins and runner up performance in a span of 4 races earlier this season, but thanks to a little bit of bad luck Kahne has lost some points and now he has to not only race one of the best races of his career, but will need the help of others if he wants to be apart of the Chase this season.
Long Shot: David Ragan +3000
Ragan has put together quiet the season so far and now it comes down to the last race of the season to determine if Ragan gets into the final 12 drivers this season. Ragan only sits 17 points behind the 12th place driver Clint Bowyer and he will likely not only have to worry about what Bowyer does, but what guys like Kahne and 11th place driver Denny Hamlin do as well. You can’t predict the accidents so there is no reason to think that Ragan doesn’t have a shot, and we think that he not only gets into the final 12, but grabs a top 5 finish as well.
