Kansas City Chiefs vs. Denver Broncos NFL Betting Odds & Spread
Written December 5, 2008 by Jason Lowry

It looks as though the Denver Broncos are going to be in the playoffs as the AFC West division winner, as the division has been less than impressive this season, but this week they get the chance to get revenge on the Kansas City Chiefs, as the two teams lock up for the second time this season. In the first matchup the Broncos came in undefeated and the Chiefs hadn’t won a regular season game in 12 weeks dating back to last season, but the Chiefs worked up on the Broncos 33-19. Now the Broncos come into this one sky high of confidence after beating up on the Jets last week 34-17, but The Chiefs also have a little going their way as well, as they grabbed their 2nd win of the season against the Raiders last week 20-13. Now for those of you looking to do a little NFL betting this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Broncos 9 point favorites at home over the Chiefs at Sportsbook.com
Now there is no question that this season has not gone well for the Chiefs, but if they are able to run the table against the Broncos this season, Chiefs fans would love nothing more of they aren’t headed to the playoffs. Last week the Chiefs didn’t get a big statistical day from Tyler Thigpen, as he had just 162 yards with an interception, but he made the plays when needed, and got this team the win. Tony Gonzalez had another big day receiving, as the future Hall of Fame tight end grabbed 8 balls for 110 yards, and Larry Johnson looked like the back of old, running for 92 yards and a score on 24 carries, and the last time Johnson faced the Broncos he nearly put up 200 on them. If the Broncos come in rolling like they did a week ago, this offense better be ready to put plenty of points on the board this weekend.
Now the Chiefs defense also got in on the fun last week, as they spoiled a Raiders fake field goad attempt by grabbing a fumble and running it back for the Chiefs first score of the game. The Chiefs defense also did a much better job stopping the run this time around against the Raiders as they had just 139 yards and a score on the ground, and that is quite the improvement from last time. Now the Chiefs defense really gave the Broncos trouble in the redzone last time, as they forced the Broncos into a number of field goals, and also found a way to intercept Jay Cutler twice. Now the defense is going to need a lot to go right again this week if they plan on pulling off another upset on the road. Bet Chiefs +9 at Sportsbook.com
Now before the Chiefs fans get all excited in this one, it shouldn’t come to no surprise that the Chiefs won at home earlier this season, even if they haven’t been playing the best football, as these two teams almost always split their season series, with the home team winning almost every time. Last week against the Jets the Broncos not only got a solid performance from Cutler, who threw for 357 yards and 2 scores, but got one heck of a performance out of rookie running back Peyton Hillis, who had 129 yards and a score in this one. Now we already mentioned the Broncos offensive struggles last time around against the Chiefs, but we expect the game to be pretty much completely the opposite this week.
Now when we say opposite we are talking about the success of the offense, as you can never be sure what to expect with the defensive side of things in Denver, as one week they will get torched and the next they actually look like they know what they are doing. Last week against the Jets they did a good job keeping them from scoring, but they gave up a ton of yards, as Favre threw for 247 and Thomas Jones ran for 138 yards and 2 scores on just 16 carries, and this is the same unit that game up 33 to the Chiefs earlier this season. Now this will be the first time the Broncos defense sees Thigpen at quarterback for the Chiefs, but if they can’t stop Larry Johnson it won’t matter who is playing quarterback.
