Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Kansas City Chiefs NFL Betting & Odds

Written October 30, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Editors Note: Jason Lowry has a big play going on this game, and you can grab it today as part of his complete NFL week 9 package.

This Sunday the Kansas City Chiefs host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week 9 NFL action. The Chiefs are coming off a loss to the Jets, but fans had to like the fight this team put up, as they nearly came away with a win on the road for the first time in a long time. The Bucs on the other hand were unable to take advantage of a depleted Cowboys team, as they fell 13-9. The oddsmakers are thinking the Bucs will get back on track this weekend, as they come in 8 point favorites over the Chiefs at BetUS.com

The Bucs come into this one failing to score a single touchdown, against a Cowboys defense that has given up its fair share of points this season. The passing game was on and off as Garcia threw for 227 yards on 43 attempts, and the running game was no where to be found, as Graham had just 42 yards, while Warrick Dunn carried the ball just 1 time for no gain, and they are still questioning whether he will be able to play this week against the Chiefs. As long as the Bucs stick to the run and don’t get pass happy against the Chiefs defense like the Jets did, they should have no problem putting up points this week.

Now the Bucs defense remains one of the best in the league, and they did about everything they could last week to help the team win the football game, as they held the Cowboys to just 13 points. They really didn’t let the Cowboys do much besides a couple of drives, as they allowed Brad Johnson to throw for just 122 yards and Marion Barber just 71 yards on the ground. The Chiefs have nearly no running game with Larry Johnson out, so look for this defense to key off Tyler Thigpen and try and put some pressure on him early. Bet Tampa Bay -8 at BetUS.com

The Chiefs offense had to like what it saw in Thigpen, as they pretty much closed the book on this guy after his 3 interception performance against the Falcons earlier in the season. Thigpen looked like a whole different quarterback last week, as picked apart the Jets defense throwing for 280 yards, 2 scores, and 0 interception, and even out played his idle Brett Favre who had 3 picks. Now the Chiefs continued to struggle on the ground, so it will be up to Thigpen to get the offense moving and allowing the defense to stay off the field.

There is no question that the Chiefs struggle to stop the run, as they are just too young up front, and don’t have the talent yet, but last week the Jets seemed to think they were better off throwing the football, as they ran it less than 20 times. We have a good feeling the Bucs aren’t going to get pass happy this week and really force the Chiefs to stop the run, and though you can’t expect this defense to shutdown the Bucs, we do expect them to play better on their home field.
