Kansas City Chiefs vs. Miami Dolphins NFL Betting Odds & Spread
Written December 17, 2008 by Jason Lowry

This Sunday the Miami Dolphins not only look to keep pace in their own division, as they are tied with the Patriots and Jets for first place in the AFC East at 9-5, but they are also playing for a possible wild card spot as well. This week the Dolphins travel to take on the Kansas City Chiefs, who just can’t seem to buy a close win this season, as they once again dropped a heartbreaker, as they fell to the Chargers in the last minute for the 2nd time this season. For those of you looking to do a little NFL betting this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Dolphins 4 point favorites on the road over the Chiefs at Bookmaker.com
The Dolphins are quietly putting together one of the better finishes of any team to the regular season, as they have only loss once since week 7. Last week it wasn’t pretty as they beat the 49ers 14-9 at home, but it was a win and thats all that matters at the end of the day. The Dolphins scored all their points in the first half, as Chad Pennington first hit David Martin on a 61 yard bomb in the first quarter, then hit Joey Haynos on a 19 yard strike in the 2nd quarter. Pennington wound up throwing for just 156 yards but was very efficient completing 12 of 19 passes. The running game wasn’t that effective last week, as Brown led the way with 67 yards on 10 carries and Ricky Williams chipped in 23 yards on 7 carries, but this is not nearly the production they need out of this duo in the backfield. The Chiefs have struggled stopping the run this season, so we are thinking that both Brown and Williams will have a much better day in KC.
Now the offense wasn’t great last week, but thanks to yet another excellent defensive performance it didn’t really matter. Now the Dolphins gave up some yards last week, as they let Shaun Hill throw for 233 yards and the 49ers had over a 100 yards on the ground as a team, but all they got out of it was 3 field goals. Now the defense didn’t force any turnovers in this one, but they did sack Hill 5 times including 2 from defensive back Nate Jones. Bet Miami Dolphins -4 at Bookmaker.com
The Kansas City Chiefs are a young team and young teams usually don’t win close games, but these guys have to be about sick of losing leads and winding up on the wrong end of the stick nearly every single week. The Chiefs have lost 8 games by 10 points or less, and in a number of those games they had a lead. Now that likely means good news for the future, but as it goes for the game this weekend, its likely not going to go well for the Chiefs. Last week the Chiefs got an okay performance from tailback Larry Johnson who had 55 yards, but most of the offense came from Tyler Thigpen who threw for 171 and a score, and also added 40 yards on the ground and another touchdown. The Chiefs will likely play the Dolphins strong, but for them to win they have to find a way to keep scoring during all 4 quarters and not just early on.
Now the Chiefs defense is pretty thin in a lot of positions so its very likely this team is just wearing down at the end of games. Last week against the Chargers the Chiefs held them to just 3 first half points, but wound up giving 19 2nd half points including 12 in the final quarter, and the go ahead touchdown with just 36 seconds left on the clock. Now the Chiefs did have 3 sacks in this game which is pretty surprising for a team that is worst in the league at sacking the opposing quarterback. Now we expect the offense to get it going, its just a matter if the Chiefs defense can respond and make the big plays late when the team really needs them to make a stop.
