2011 Cincinnati Bengals Schedule

Written by

The Cincinnati Bengals surprised everyone by winning the AFC North in 2009. The hope was that the organization had finally got back on track after two straight losing seasons, but things took a turn for the worse in 2010. Cincinnati finished the year just 4-12, and as a result Carson Palmer no longer wants to be the quarterback of this franchise. While the Bengal’s immediate future may be in jeopardy, their first round pick of wide out A.J. Green and second pick of quarterback Andy Dalton could be just what this team needs to turn things around.

While the Bengals didn’t play up to their level last year, they did have a pretty brutal schedule. Let’s take a look at their 2011-12 schedule to see if there is any hope that this team could once again surprise and make a run at the playoffs. Outside of the Bengals six division games against the AFC North, Cincinnati will take on the AFC South, NFC West, Buffalo Bills, and Denver Broncos.

After going a perfect 6-0 against the North in 2009, Cincinnati went just 2-4 against the division last year. They split their two games with the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns, while losing both games against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Without Palmer in the mix this year it’s hard to see this team improving on their 2-4 mark of last year. Their home game against the Browns is likely the only game they will even be favored to win.

In their four games against the AFC South the Bengals have to go on the road to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans, while getting the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans at home. The Bengals went just 1-7 on the road last year, so it’s hard to see them being favored against either the Titans or Jaguars. With Houston and Indianapolis both expected to be better than they were a year ago, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Bengals failed to win a game against the South.

While things don’t look great against their division or the AFC South, the Bengals should have a good shot at racking up some wins against the NFC West. This division didn’t have a single team finish above .500 last year. Look for Cincinnati to be favored in both home games against the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers. While they likely won’t be favored on the road against the St Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks, these are two games they could win.

Cincinnati also figures to have a great chance of grabbing a couple wins in their two conference games against the Bills and Broncos. Both of these teams finished with the same 4-12 record last year. Beating the Bills at home figures to be their best bet, but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of the Bengals going into Denver and getting a win against the Broncos. Both of these games come in the first four weeks of the season, which should give us a pretty good idea of where this team is. If they lose both, don’t expect to see many wins from this team in 2011.
