Cincinnati vs Oregon State Odds & Predictions

Written September 18, 2009 by Kyle Hunter

cincinnati-oregon-state-preview-091809No doubt this is a game that the Oregon State Beavers have had circled on their schedule since 2007 when they were defeated by the Cincinnati Bearcats 34-3. The Beavers turned the ball over seven times in that game and the Bearcats shocked the football world by blowing them out of the water. Fast forward to this Saturday’s game and we have two very different teams than we did in 2007, but two teams that both have very high expectations for this season. Both of these teams are now ranked in the Top 25 according to the coaches’ poll, and they have both started the season in impressive fashion.  The current college football odds list Cincinnati as 1 point favorites over Oregon State with the total set at 56 points.

Cincinnati burst onto the scenes last year with Coach Brian Kelly at the helm. The Bearcats won the Big East and went on to play in a BCS game, something that very few football experts had predicted before the season. This season the expectations are much higher, and the Bearcats are motivated to get back into a BCS game and win one for the Big East this time. There is no question that Senior Tony Pike is the leader of the Bearcats offense, and he has shown his tremendous leadership as well as great mechanics through the Bearcats first two wins. Pike’s favorite target is speedy wide receiver Mardy Gilyard, who loves to run after the catch. The Bearcats have put up 117 points through their first two games, including a 47-15 thrashing of Rutgers in New Jersey. Based on what we have seen thus far it appears the Bearcats are definitely a team to be reckoned with this season.  If you are ready to start betting college football this weekend, get a $500 bonus from BetUS when you open a new account and deposit $500 or more!

Oregon State made a name for itself last season by beating USC at home to derail the Trojans chance of playing for a national title. This season the Beavers set out to be more consistent and be a national force. Jacquizz Rodgers is the star of the Beavers football team, but he has a little bit of an ankle injury that could slow him a little in this game. The Beavers don’t usually ask quarterback Sean Canfield to do a whole lot, but they do need him to take good care of the football. The defense for the Beavers is said to be improved and has only given up 28 points in two games so far this year.

The matchup to watch here is probably the Oregon State defense vs. the Cincinnati offense. Cincinnati likes to go no-huddle so the Beavers will need to be ready to make adjustments on the fly and go without substitutions for long periods of time. Oregon State has won 15 of their last 17 games at home, so Corvallis is certainly not an easy place to play. Cincinnati opened as 1 and ½ point favorites on the road so Las Vegas and the odds makers are definitely paying attention to the strong start the Bearcats have had. Expect to see plenty of points in this game as both defenses will likely struggle to contain the opposing offense. Since they are probably better-rounded the Bearcats do deserve to be the favorites, but I expect this game to be tight right up until the end.

Final Score Prediction: Cincinnati 24, Oregon State 21

OSU’s defense is going to have their hands full. You cannot key on one person in this offense or you will be down 21-0 before you know what happened. UC has been underestimated from the start by everyone in pre-season picks. Mostly due to the defense being questioned. This will be the first real test for the Bearcat defense. In my opinion as long as the defense keeps OSU under 40 points, Cincy will win the game……
