Cleveland Browns at Buffalo Bills NFL Odds
Written October 9, 2009 by Black Widow
The Cleveland Browns visit the Buffalo Bills Sunday where both teams are in desperate need of a win. Cleveland more than Buffalo as they’ve opened the season 0-4, but the Bills are just 1-3 this season after their blowout loss to the Dolphins last week. Let’s take a look at the NFL odds for this game where they have listed Buffalo -6 over Cleveland with a Total Set of 40.5 points.
The Cleveland Browns traded away Braylon Edwards earlier this week, which was an interesting move considering they field one of the worst offenses in the game. But they were tired of his negative reputation, because that’s all the press coverage they have been getting this season. It’s a move for the future for Cleveland, and it appears to be the right one because Edwards has not gotten the job done. Edwards had 10 catches for 139 yards before being held without a catch in their 20-23 loss to Cincinnati last week, the first time in his career he failed to catch a ball. The Browns are in the midst of a 10-game losing streak, and they have averaged just 8.0 points/game during this dreadful run. So it’s clear that the problems go even further than Edwards. The Browns did get Chansi Stuckey in the trade with the Jets, and he has 11 catches for 120 yards and a touchdown in the early going. A big reason for the trade of Edwards has to be rookie WR Mohamed Massaquoi, who had 8 catches for 148 yards in their 20-23 loss to the Bengals last week. Derek Anderson had a nice game in his first start of the season, throwing for 269 yards and a touchdown.

The Bills have had their own offensive woes the last few games, managing to score just 17 combined points in a 7-27 loss to New Orleans and a 10-38 loss to Miami. Terrell Owens has yet to have a big game, registering just 8 catches for 158 yards and one touchdown. Trent Edwards started off last season very sharp for the Bills in winning 5 of his first 6 starts, but since the Bills have dropped 9 of his last 12 starts where Edwards has averaged just 190 passing yards/game. With Owens and Lee Evans on board, those numbers have to improve. Edwards is also coming off the worst game of his career, throwing three interceptions in their loss to the Dolphins. Both head coaches are on the hot seat, with Dick Jauron needing to take his team to the playoffs after three straight 7-9 seasons and Eric Mangini needing to prove that he can still coach and get the Browns back on the winning track. Last year’s meeting between these teams resulted in a 29-27 Browns’ victory behind a game-winning 56-yard field goal from Phil Dawson.
