Cleveland Cavs v. Phoenix Suns Odds & Predictions

Written March 11, 2009 by Jack Jones

Suns Cavaliers BasketballThe Cleveland Cavaliers and the Phoenix Suns have only met one time this season, back on February 11th in Cleveland when the Cavs easily took care of Phoenix, 109-92, as 9-point home favorites.  They are expected to win again on Thursday as the NBA betting experts in the desert have pegged Cleveland as 4-point favorites with the total set at 219.

LeBron James showed just why he is so valuable on Tuesday night as he poured in 20 points in the 4th quarter alone to lead his team from 19 down in the final frame to top the Clippers.  He had 32 on the night to go with 11 assists and 13 rebounds, giving James his fifth triple double of the season and second in a row.  Cleveland is streaking right now with the best record in the Eastern Conference and wins in six of their last seven games.  This team seems determined to lock up home court advantage, which could be important in the playoffs with three competitive teams in Boston, Orlando and the Cavs.  Not to mention the leader of that 3-pack would only have to get through one of the bunch, while the other two duke it out for the right to face the No. 1 seed.  That is if all teams keep winning of course.

The Suns are fading out of the playoff picture after having lost four straight games, including a tough home loss Tuesday night to Dallas as six point favorites.  Steve Nash called out his team after the latest loss, saying their concentration and effort just were not there.  This team exploded offensively out of the All-Star break under interim head coach Alvin Gentry, but with the team back to their losing ways I don’t expect the team to remove the interim from Gentry’s title.

Cleveland is 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games as a favorite of 4.5 or fewer points and are 5-2 ATS the last seven times they’ve played an opponent coming off a game giving up 100 or more points.  The Cavs are 36-15 ATS following an ATS loss and 16-7 ATS their last 23 against the West, but the team has dropped their last four ATS on Thursday night.  The Suns are 6-2 ATS in their last eight at home, but 8-20 ATS their last 28 against teams with a winning record.  The Suns are also 5-13 ATS against the East and 0-7 ATS on their last seven appearances on Thursday nights.

The OVER is 7-1 the last eight times Cleveland has played a team with a winning record, but the UNDER is 6-2 following the last eight Cav wins.  Phoenix is 6-0 for the UNDER as a home underdog, but 6-1 OVER their last seven against winning teams.

Oddsmakers Predicted Scored:

Cleveland 111
Phoenix 107
