College Basketball Betting: Hot & Cold Teams ATS

Written March 9, 2009 by Jack Jones

college-basketball-hot-and-cold-teams-030909A lot of the conference tournaments are set to start this week, so I thought it might be a good time to take a look at some of the hottest (and coldest) teams in the nation heading into championship week.  This will give all of you college basketball betting fans something to mull over if you decided to bet on basketball this next week.

Weber State is a team that isn’t going to be found in the national headlines, but they are just as hot as any team in the nation.  The Wildcats are on a ridiculous 10-0 run against the spread (ATS), the only team in all of college basketball that can make that claim.

While nobody other than Weber State has gone 10-0 ATS to end their regular season, two teams can claim a 9-1 ATS record in their last 10 games on the hardwood.  Both Auburn and BYU have been cashing in for their backers at an incredible rate, each winning 9 of their last 10 games against the spread.

There are several teams that can claim an 8-2 record against the spread going into championship week, 8 to be exact (St. Peter’s, E. Michigan, Kansas, Morehead State, Bowling Green, Indiana State, Seton Hall, and St. Louis).  And there are actually 24 teams that have won 7 of their last 10 games against the spread, including Iowa, Oklahoma State, Western Kentucky, Michigan, NC State, Pitt, and Memphis.

At the other end of the spectrum we have the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Cougars who have notched 10-straight losses against the spread.  Not far behind is Baylor, Western Michigan, Northern Ariznoa, and Iona, who have all gone just 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games.

Keep these trends in mind with some of these teams heading into their conference tournaments this week.  Hopefully it can help you make a little extra money.  Good luck!

Southern Illinois? really? They were a 6 point dog against Drake (Feb 25th) or 3 games ago. They won that game. perhaps you should do some fact checking.

    Mark,

You’re absolutely right. In my haste I read Southern Illinois and jumped right to the Salukis. This stat is actually for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (the Cougars), who are a Division I Independent in college basketball. Thanks for the catch, Mark!
