College Basketball Power Rankings: Championship Week
Written March 10, 2009 by Jack Jones
1. North Carolina Tar Heels: The Tar Heels haven’t been good to bet on this season at just 11-17 against the spread, but they just knocked off Duke for the second time this season. UNC heads into the ACC tournament as the odds-on favorite to win.
2. Pittsburgh Panthers: Believe me, it was tough not to put the Panther at the top of the power rankings. You could easily argue that they deserve it after beating UConn for the 2nd time this year. Pitt might be the most dangerous team in the nation come tournament time.
3. Connecticut Huskies: The Huskies fall to #3 this week after losing to Pitt by 10 points at home. They still deserve to be considered a legitimate threat both in the Big East and NCAA Tournament. Bet on the Huskies in the Big East Tournament.
4. Memphis Tigers: Memphis suffers from being in a weak conference, but they’ve been dominant within that conference. They may not get a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament, but they probably should.
5. Louisville Cardinals: If this teams is in a conference outside of the Big East (and probably the ACC) they might bring an even higher rating. Watch out for the Cardinals in the Big East Tournament, they’ve won 7 straight overall and ATS.
6. Michigan State Spartans: The Spartans are flying under the radar this year, but should earn a 2 seed in the NCAA tournament. There’s no one else in the Big Ten that can touch them, but we’ll see how they stack up against some better competition. Bet on the Spartans in the Big Ten Tournament.
7. Kansas Jayhawks: The Jayhawks are one of those teams that I could easily rank higher or lower on this list. They go out and lose to Texas Tech, then come right back and beat Texas. Their performance in the Big 12 tourney will tell a lot about this team.
8. Oklahoma Sooners: Blake Griffin finally looks fully healthy, and he’s motivated. Tell me that’s not scary for their opposition the rest of the way.
9. Duke Blue Devils: The two losses to UNC hurt and the Blue Devils are struggling through injuries. The amazing part is that they are still one of the best teams in the country.
10. Wake Forest Demon Deacons: They’ve beaten Duke and North Carolina this year, plus won four straight heading into the ACC tournament.

Got something to say?

What I think is going to happen is that Louisvilel will be a 1 seed adn UCON will be a 2 seed. I think that the view of the committe is that all numbre 1 seeds should be about even. Well UCON has shown 2 times that they are not in the same league as 1 seed PIT. I thikn UCON is out.
I do not know about Memphis. THere losses were early and after losing 3 NBA players. I think that Memphis is in teh top 5 in the country. I think that OK has the best player, but the team is aveage. I htink UCON has to gets its act together or it is not a top 6 team.
BTW, I went to Memphis. I think that if a team attacks def Evans, then Memphis is in trouble. If a team packs in, then the non-Memphis team will be introuble cause it makes it a slower game.
