College Football Top 25 Power Rankings: Week 4
Written September 30, 2009 by Kyle Hunter
1. Alabama- Right now the Crimson Tide are playing consistently well more than anyone else in the land. I still think the talent level here isn’t as high as Florida, but as of now they deserve the top spot. They have plenty of tests coming in the next few weeks!
2. Florida- Questions about Tim Tebow send them down to number two for now, but this Gator team is still the team to beat this season. Will Tebow be able to play in their next game at LSU? If he doesn’t they could have a whole lot of trouble.
3. Texas- Colt McCoy and the Texas offense appear to be hitting stride now. The Longhorns have an open week this weekend. The next big date on their schedule is the matchup with Oklahoma on the 17th of October.
4. Boise State- The fourth spot is a tough one to pick because it seems like such a big drop off from the third spot in these rankings. Boise State has shown us more than any of the other teams below them, so they occupy this spot right now.
5. LSU- The Tigers were very fortunate to escape with a victory at Mississippi State last Saturday. If the LSU running game doesn’t get it going they probably won’t stay this high for very long.
For anyone who plans to do any NCAA football betting throughout this season, even if you already have a sportsbook account, you should open a new account with BetUS and deposit $500 or more. If you do, they will automatically add another $500 to your account!
6. Oklahoma- The Sooners are playing much better football right now and they could get Sam Bradford back soon. This weekend’s matchup at Miami will tell us a lot about the team and whether it can still compete for a title or not.
7. Virginia Tech- The Hokies dominated Miami last weekend and the defense finally looked like a typical Virginia Tech defense does. If the defense keeps playing the way it did last weekend this team is difficult to beat.
8. Cincinnati- The Bearcats have been very impressive this season. Brian Kelly has the offense clicking on all cylinders, and the defense is improved from a year ago. They are clearly the team to beat in the Big East, and they may be favored in every game the rest of the year.
9. USC- Lots of health questions at USC right now, but we’ll definitely find out more about them this weekend when they play at California. The running game will need to get going in a big way. Currently, the NCAA football odds have USC favored by 4.5 next week.
10. Ohio State- The Buckeyes defense appears to be one of the very best in the country. If Terrelle Pryor can mature throughout the season this will be a team people won’t want to play toward the end of the season.
11. TCU- The Horned Frogs haven’t received a lot of publicity, but they are a very solid team wins by ball control and great defense. Don’t be a bit surprised if they are a BCS buster this season.
12. Houston- Case Keenum’s name is entering the Heisman race and the Cougars have proven they have taken a big step forward this season. Here is another possible BCS buster.
13. Miami- I’m giving the Hurricanes the benefit of the doubt here because of the terrible conditions from last weekend’s showdown, but they better show up this weekend or they will drop quickly.
14. Georgia- It hasn’t necessarily been terribly pretty, but the Bulldogs have been getting the job done. Mark Richt and his team are definitely improving.
15. Iowa- Which Iowa team will show up the rest of the season? Will it be the one that almost lost to UNI or the one that beat Penn State on the road?
The rest of the pack:
16. Miami
17. Kansas
18. Oregon
19. Penn State
20. Mississippi
21. California
22. BYU
23. Michigan
24. Nebraska
25. Auburn
