College Football Power Rankings – Week 6
Written October 13, 2009 by Kyle Hunter
1. Florida- The Gators clamped down on LSU and won 13-3 in a very hostile environment last weekend. If the defense keeps playing this well it will be extremely difficult for anyone to beat the Gators.
2. Alabama- The Crimson Tide had an impressive win at Mississippi last Saturday. The defense has turned into a ball hawking unit that is very stingy and the offense has improved a lot from the beginning of the year. They are on a collision course to meet Florida in the SEC Championship.
3. Texas- The Longhorns played very lackluster football against Colorado for the first half, but they were able to recover and win handily. The offense has had more trouble moving the ball than most expected. They have a big chance to prove themselves this weekend against Oklahoma. The college football odds for the Red River Shootout have the Longhorns favored by 3.5 points.
4. Virginia Tech- Tyrod Taylor’s development is probably the most important thing to this team. Taylor is a real playmaker and is a headache for defensive coordinators. If the Tech defense continues to improve, they will be extremely tough to beat in the ACC.
5. Boise State- The Broncos have a tougher test than most people think when they play at Tulsa this week. Since the game is nationally televised it will give people a chance to see how legitimate this team really is.
6. USC- The Trojans travel to Notre Dame this weekend in a much anticipated battle. Joe McKnight and the offense seem to have started clicking, which could be bad news for defenses that will face USC.
7. Ohio State- Ohio State’s defense is extremely tough, but they need to get more out of their offense in the long run Terrelle Pryor must improve his decision making. If the offense improves this team is capable of moving up.
8. TCU- The Horned Frogs played in a tough environment at Air Force last weekend and grinded out another victory. The defense is top notch and the running game is very efficient. They are definitely a possible BCS buster.
9. Cincinnati- The Bearcats have a showdown in South Florida with the Bulls this Thursday. The Bearcats are much improved from a year ago, when they made a BCS bowl game. Tony Pike and the offense can move the ball against anyone.
10. Miami- The Hurricanes showed a lot of guts in their victory against Oklahoma. Jacory Harris has improved drastically and the coaching staff is doing a great job motivating these young players.

11. LSU- The Tigers need to get much better on the offensive side of the ball. Even the running game isn’t working very well right now, which is cause for concern.
12. Iowa- The Hawkeyes weren’t overly impressive in their victory over Michigan, but they got the job done. Their schedule is extremely tough in the coming weeks, so we’ll see what they are truly made of.
13. Oregon- The Ducks have turned their season around in impressive fashion after that opening game embarrassment at Boise. The defense is a pretty tough group to move the football against.
14. Penn State- The Nittany Lions are one of the big unknowns still in college football. They have had a very easy schedule and lost to their one difficult opponent. Time will tell how good Penn State is.
15. Brigham Young- The Cougars had one major slip up, but they are a very tough team to beat and Max Hall and the offense can really play. No one would be excited to play BYU.
The Rest:
16. Nebraska
17. Oklahoma
18. Kansas
19. Oklahoma State
20. Georgia Tech
21. South Carolina
22. Houston
23. West Virginia
24. South Florida
25. Notre Dame
