Week 8 NCAA Football Predictions

Written October 23, 2009 by Kyle Hunter

The biggest game of the weekend is in the MWC. How often can you say that? #7 TCU has the very strong defense, but it will be at # 16 BYU and they are very tough to beat there. I think the scoring stays pretty low and TCU wins a nail biter. Prediction: TCU 21 BYU 17

#3 Texas will head to Missouri to take on the Tigers. Texas squeaked by last weekend against an injury riddled Oklahoma team, but the Longhorns have yet to look just right so far this season. Blaine Gabbert is still hobbled for the Tigers, and Texas will make things miserable for him all game long. Prediction: Texas 28 Missouri 17

#1 Florida travels to Starkville to take on Mississippi State this weekend. Mississippi State gave LSU everything they wanted earlier this year, but I have to think this Florida team will be very motivated after a lackluster performance last weekend.  The Gators are giving 22.5 points according to our latest college football lines. Prediction: Florida 31 Mississippi State 14

Arkansas just about shocked the world last weekend and now they have to take on a rough Mississippi team. Both of these teams have tons of offensive talent and this game should be a lot of fun for fans to watch. Can Jevan Snead and crew get things going again for the Rebels? I think the Rebels defense is the difference here. Prediction: Mississippi 27 Arkansas 24

#4 USC will be looking for revenge when Oregon State visits this weekend. Oregon State still has the Rodgers brothers and they are likely to keep this game competitive for quite a while, but in the end I think USC and its defense will assert their will and win this one. Prediction: USC 28 Oregon State 14

#8 Iowa heads to Michigan State in a key Big 10 matchup. Michigan State has looked much better of late, but Iowa is still playing for a chance at a national title if they keep on winning. Iowa has proven they can win in tough road environments with wins at Wisconsin and Penn State. Prediction: Iowa 24 Michigan State 20

#2 Alabama will host SEC rival Tennessee this Saturday. Alabama has looked very strong of late, and their defense has been one of the very best in the country. Mark Ingram is making himself into a Heisman candidate with his tremendous running. Tennessee doesn’t have enough firepower to stick with Alabama the whole game. Prediction: Alabama 28 Tennessee 13

Boston College travels to Notre Dame in a game that always is exciting and hard hitting. The Fighting Irish have clearly improved this season behind the strong arm of Jimmy Clausen, but they are looking for more than just solid improvement. Notre Dame makes a statement this game. Prediction: Notre Dame 35 Boston College 17

Florida State continues to disappoint this season and UNC has yet to show the ability many expected them to this season. If Florida State’s defense can button down a little bit, I think their offense can win this game for them. Prediction: Florida State 28 North Carolina 21

#11 Penn State travels to the Big House to take on the Wolverines this Saturday afternoon. Penn State’s defense seems to be getting it all together in the last couple of games, and Michigan’s offense hasn’t faced a defense this good yet this season. Prediction: Penn State 24 Michigan 20

Clemson travels to #9 Miami in a big ACC showdown between two very talented teams. Injury problems are starting to mount for Miami, and Clemson should be able to run the ball effectively in this one. Jacory Harris will make just enough plays for the Hurricanes. Prediction: Miami 28 Clemson 21

#10 LSU hosts the 5-2 Auburn Tigers this Saturday evening in Baton Rouge. Auburn has had a rough last two games after a great start and this will be a big test for them. LSU doesn’t have great offensive firepower, but the defense is extremely fast and should hold down Auburn. Prediction: LSU 24 Auburn 17
