2011 College Football Season Win Totals
Written by Steve Janus
The oddsmakers have released their 2011 win totals for a number of college football teams this season. While it requires some patience, these totals can lead to a big profit coming your way at the end of year. Their are a number of things you have to consider when placing these bets, but the biggest thing to look at is the schedule. Here is a look at my top five win totals for 2011 season.
Boise State OVER 10.5 (-130) – The Broncos haven’t won fewer than 11 games in the regular season since Kellen Moore took over at quarterback, and I don’t see any reason why the senior will break that trend this year. Outside of the season opener against Georgia, there isn’t a game on the schedule where Boise State won’t be favored.
Stanford OVER 9 (+130) – A lot of people are backing off the Cardinal after head coach Jim Harbaugh left to coach the San Francisco 49ers, but starting quarterback Andrew Luck wouldn’t have passed up being the No. 1 pick in the draft if he didn’t believe his team had a shot at the National Championship. The three games that will give them trouble are against USC, Oregon, and Notre Dame, but they get Oregon and Notre Dame at home. Even if they lose all three you still push your bet. Definitely worth the risk!
South Carolina OVER 9 (+120) – This is the best team head coach Steve Spurrier has had since taking over at South Carolina, and they are simply not getting the respect they deserve with this total. As good as the SEC is, the East Division is pretty weak this year. They avoid the two best teams in the conference in Alabama and LSU. They should be favored in all eight games at home (includes game against East Carolina at Charlotte), and I believe they will at worst go 2-2 on the road against the likes of Georgia, Mississippi State, Tennessee, and Arkansas.
Florida State OVER 9.5 (-130) – The Seminoles come into the season with 16 starters back from a team that went 10-4 in 2010 and are a legit threat to win the National Championship this season. The schedule really sets up well for the Seminoles in 2011. They have three tough games against the likes of Oklahoma, Miami, and @Florida, but they could easily win all three. Even if they go 1-2 in those games, they should have no trouble getting to 10 wins.
Utah UNDER 7.5 (-150) – The Utes haven’t won fewer than eight games since 2005, but they are no longer racking up easy win after easy win in the MWC. I really believe it is going to be a struggle for the Utes in their first season in the Pac-10. They have just 12 starters back from last year, and I think they will be lucky to win six games this year. I believe the only games that Utah is a lock to win are home games against Montana State, Washington, and Colorado and a road game against Washington State. The rest of the schedule either has them playing a good team at home (Arizona State, Oregon State and UCLA) or a tough opponent on the road (USC, BYU, Pittsburgh, Cal, and Arizona).
