College Football Top 25 Power Rankings – Week 2
Written September 16, 2009 by Kyle Hunter
1. Florida- Certainly you weren’t expecting anyone different were you? The Gators haven’t played anyone special yet, but we know they are very good. The Gators will start to get tested a little more this weekend when Tennessee comes to town, but don’t hold your breath if you are hoping for a loss from the Gators anytime soon.
2. Texas- the Longhorns struggled mightily in the first half last week at Wyoming, but righted the ship and won 41-10. Colt McCoy was off his game last week, but don’t expect that to continue for too long.
3. USC- the Trojans went into Columbus and stole one from the Buckeyes. Their backs were against the wall, but they pulled it out in the end. How good really are the Buckeyes? Can the Trojans show more offensive firepower as they gel later in the season?
4. Alabama- the Crimson Tide haven’t been firing on all cylinders yet, but most teams haven’t. The defense is definitely good, and the offense has plenty of talent. Circle your calendars for their matchup at Ole Miss on October 10th, which should be a really good one.
5. Penn State- the Nittany Lions have suddenly become the odds on favorite in the Big Ten. Expect Penn State to benefit from a weak schedule and possibly play a role in the national picture this season.
6. California- Jahvid Best is on fire and the Cal Golden Bears offense looks terrific thus far. The Golden Bears have scored 111 points in two games and Best is averaging over 10 yards per carry. The Golden Bears have a big date with USC on October 3rd, and that should be a very good game.
7. Ole Miss- the Rebels had last weekend off so we haven’t seen as much of them as some of the other teams on this list. The team has lots of talent, but can it adjust to having a target on its back every week?

8. BYU- the Cougars impressed all of college football with their shocking upset of Oklahoma in week one and didn’t look back last weekend. Max Hall is a very underrated quarterback and the defense seems to be coming into its own. The Cougars have a big matchup with Florida State this weekend.
9. LSU- the Tigers are 2-0 so far this year, but they haven’t exactly been playing the way Les Miles wants them to play. LSU has a very tough schedule so we’ll definitely find out how good this team really is before this season is finished!
10. Boise State- the Broncos have been nothing short of very impressive in each of their first two victories. If you are looking for a team that has the possibility to be a BCS buster this should be the first one on your list.
11. Virginia Tech- the Hokies played Alabama tough, and they should have a very successful season.
12. Oklahoma- How well can they hold the fort down while Sam Bradford is injured?
13. Ohio State- Can Terrelle Pryor mature and turn into the complete quarterback and leader the Buckeyes need him to be?
14. TCU- the Horned Frogs have a great defense and an impressive running game.
15. Oklahoma State- It was a big letdown last weekend, but this team definitely still has the potential to beat almost anyone on any given day.
16. Cincinnati
17. Georgia Tech
18. Utah
19. Miami (FL)
20. Nebraska
21. Houston
22. Georgia
23. Kansas
24. Missouri
25. North Carolina
