#1 Florida defeats Tennessee 23-13 – The Gators used 10 unanswered points in the third quarter to take a commanding lead over the Vols. Tim Tebow wasn’t spectacular, but he got the job done by completing 14-of-19 passes for 115 yards along with 76 rushing yards and a score. It was Florida’s 13th consecutive victory, breaking the school-record.
#2 Texas defeats Texas Tech 34-24 – In a close game throughout, the Longhorns took a two-touchdown lead with nine minutes to go on a Colt McCoy strike to Dan Buckner. Texas game up with two huge turnovers in the fourth quarter to seal the win, and they also held the Red Raiders to minus-6 rushing yards.
Washington defeats #3 USC 16-13 – A 22-yard field goal by Erik Folk with only 3 seconds remaining gave the Huskies the victory. Chris Polk was a factor for the Huskies, rushing for 71 yards and catching 22 more. The Trojans passed for just 110 yards, which was the fewest since Pete Carroll took over the program.
#4 Alabama defeats North Texas 53-7 – 30 unanswered points by the Crimson Tide on the first half gave the Mean Green no chance. QB Greg McElroy was very efficient, completing 13-of-15 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns. North Texas was limited to only seven first downs in the game thanks to a stingy Alabama defense.
#5 Penn State defeats Temple 31-6 – Penn State started fast with a 21-3 lead and never looked back. QB Daryll Clark went 16-of-26 for 16 yards and two touchdowns, while Evan Royster led the ground attack with 134 rushing yards.
#6 Mississippi defeats Southeastern Louisiana 52-6 – The Rebels scored 17 unanswered points in the second quarter to cushion the lead. D.T. Shackelford was the story defensively, recovering two fumbles and returning an interception for a touchdown. The Lions went 0-for-14 on third downs in this one.
Florida State defeats #7 BYU 54-28 – The Seminoles took a commanding lead in the first half, and Greg Reid intercepted Max Hall to start the third quarter and returned it for a touchdown. Christian Ponder was brilliant under center for the ‘Noles, competing 21-of-25 passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 76 yards and a score, and the FSU defense forced Hall and the BYU offense into five turnovers.
#8 California defeats Minnesota 35-21 – Jahvid Best scored all 5 of the Bears’ touchdowns with 131 rushing yards on 26 carries.
#9 LSU defeats LA-Lafayette 31-3 – The LSU defense held Lafayette scoreless in the second half. Chad Jones picked off a pair of passes to lead the way defensively. The Tigers are no 22-0 in this series, outscoring Lafayette 988-25 in the process.
#10 Boise State defeats Fresno State 51-34 – Boise got out to a big lead, but Fresno rallied until Jaremy Avery scored on a 67-yard catch to put the Broncos up 14 points for good in the 4th quarter. Ryan Mathews was the star for the Bulldogs, scoring on three touchdown runs of 60-plus yards, and finishing with 234 rushing yards for the game.
#11 Ohio State defeats Toledo 38-0 – It has now been since 1921 since Ohio State has lost to an in-state foe, and that streak was extended Saturday. Terrelle Pryor put together his best performance in a Buckeye uniform, throwing for a career-high 262 yards and rushing for 110 more.
#12 Oklahoma defeats Tulsa 45-0 – Ryan Broyles scored three touchdowns while catching 11 balls for 128 yards. QB Landry Jones set a Sooners’ record with six touchdown passes, not something you would expect to see from a backup quarterback.
#13 Virginia Tech defeats Nebraska 16-15 – Tyrod Taylor completed an 11-yard touchdown pass to Dyrell Roberts with 21 seconds to go to give the Hokies a 1-point lead. The Tech defense kept a high-powered Nebraska offense out of the end zone, holding the Huskers to 5 field goals.
#20 Miami defeats #14 Georgia Tech 33-17 – Miami dominated the entire game, and Heisman Trophy candidate Jacory Harris finished with 270 passing yards on only 25 attempts with two touchdowns. The Yellow Jackets rushed for less than 100 yards after rushing for 472 yards in their meeting in 2008.
#15 TCU defeats Texas State 56-21 – Jerry Hughes was the star of the defense, recording three sacks. The Horned Frogs put up 508 yards of total offense with 222 through the air and 286 on the ground.
#16 Oklahoma State defeats Rice 41-24 – The Cowboys jumped out to an early 14-point lead in the first quarter. Zac Robinson now has 56 touchdown passes, most in team history. There is some concern here after Oklahoma State converted on just 2-of-9 third-down attempts.
#17 Cincinnati defeats Oregon State 28-18 – D.J. Woods caught seven balls for 117 yards and a 45-yard touchdown pass from QB Tony Pike. The Bearcats’ quarterback completed 31-of-48 passes for 331 yards and two touchdowns on the game.
Oregon defeats #18 Utah 31-24 – John Boyett came up with a huge interception late to prevent the Utes from tying the game. LaMichael James is emerging as the next great back at Oregon, rushing for 156 yards and a touchdown.
#22 Kansas defeats Duke 44-16 – Kansas put up 17 points in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. Dezmon Briscoe has six grabs for 117 yards and a touchdown, while QB Todd Reesing threw for 338 yards, which was his 14th career 300-yard game.
#23 Georgia defeats Arkansas 52-41 – After falling behind early, the Bulldogs battled back behind QB Joe Cox and his five touchdown passes, tying a school-record. The teams combined for 25 penalties and 193 penalty yards in the game.
#24 North Carolina defeats East Carolina 31-17 – The Tar Heels scored a TD with less than two minutes to go which put UNC up by two scores. Erik Hishsmith grabbed the headlines with six catches for 113 yards and a touchdown as a true freshman.
#25 Michigan defeats Eastern Michigan 45-17 – No letdown for the Wolverines here after Michigan put together a 21-0 run after halftime. Carlos Brown returned a kickoff 90 yards for a score, and also rushed for a 9-yard touchdown. He finished with 187 rushing yards on just 13 carries.
