College Football Top 25 Week 2 Recap

#1 Florida defeats Troy 56-6 – After a shaky start, the Gators reeled off 28 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 35-3 lead into halftime. Behind 5 Total TD’s from Tim Tebow, Florida rolled to victory.
#2 Texas defeats Wyoming 41-10 – Texas actually trailed this game 10-6 late in the second quarter before reality kicked in. The Longhorns’ struggles can be attributed to their 5-for-17 third down conversions, but even a sub-par performance resulted in a blowout win.
#3 USC defeats #8 Ohio State 18-15 – What a drive by freshman QB Matt Barkley and RB Joe McKnight to take the lead for good with 1:05 remaining. Both defenses proved they are two of the most dominant in the country, holding one another to less than 3 yards/carry on the ground.
#4 Alabama defeats Florida International 40-14 – Another slow start by a Top-5 team here, but running back Trent Richardson rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Crimson Tide to victory. Also, Alabama QB Greg McElroy completed a school-record 14 consecutive passes.
Houston defeats #5 Oklahoma State 45-35 – The Cowboys fought back from a 24-7 halftime deficit to take a 35-31 lead late, but Houston converted a fourth-and-goal with seven minutes left to take a 38-35 lead and followed that up with a pick-6 on Oklahoma State’s following drive to seal the victory.
#7 Penn State defeats Syracuse 28-7 – For a second straight game, the Nittany Lions’ defense held their opponents scoreless in the first half. RB Evan Royster accounted for 102 yards of total offense and two scores, while QB Darryl Clark chipped in 240 passing yards and three scores.
#9 BYU defeats Tulane 54-3 – Letdown game for the Cougars? Think again. Heisman contender Max Hall completed 24-of-32 passes for 309 yards and two touchdowns.
#10 California defeats Eastern Washington 59-7 – Star running back, Jahvid Best, rushed for 144 yards on only 17 carries with two touchdowns in the victory. Five different players scored touchdowns.
#11 LSU defeats Vanderbilt 23-9 – In a defensive battle as expected, the Tigers prevailed. Kicker Josh Jasper connected on all three field goal attempts, and Keiland Williams delivered the knockout blow with the game’s final touchdown with just six minutes remaining.

#12 Boise State defeats Miami (Ohio) 48-0 – The Redhawks never had a chance as the Broncos took a 20-0 halftime lead and never looked back. Sophomore QB Kellen Moore threw for 307 yards and a career-high four touchdowns.
#13 Oklahoma defeats Idaho State 64-0 – Oklahoma’s defense made a statement last Saturday, limiting the Bengals to just six total first downs. Backup QB Landry Jones built some confidence by throwing for 286 yards and three touchdowns.
#14 Virginia Tech defeats Marshall 52-10 – The Hokies got off to a fast start, taking a 35-7 lead into halftime. Running back Ryan Williams made a name for himself with 164 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
#15 Georgia Tech defeats Clemson 30-27 – The Yellow Jackets stormed out to a 21-0 first quarter lead, but Clemson fought back to actually take a late lead. QB Josh Nesbitt completed just 3-of-14 passes for Georgia Tech, but two huge plays on special teams led to touchdowns for Paul Johnson’s squad.
#16 TCU defeats Virginia 30-14 – TCU scored 30 unanswered points to start the game, so don’t fool yourself by thinking this game was much closer than it really was. The Horned Frogs recorded 23 first downs to Virginia’s 7.
#17 Utah defeats San Jose State 24-14 – A closely-contested ballgame throughout, but Joe Phillips’ 25-yard field goal with 12 seconds remaining sealed the win for the Utes en route to their 16th straight victory, the longest winning streak in the FBS.
Michigan defeats #18 Notre Dame 38-34 – In the most exciting game of the weekend, the Wolverines got a touchdown grab from Greg Mathews with 11 seconds remaining. Michigan QB Tate Forcier threw for 240 yards and two scores, while also rushing for a 31-yard touchdown on fourth down.
#19 North Carolina defeats Connecticut 12-10 – Trailing 10-0 heading into the fourth quarter, the Tar Heels mounted a comeback with 12 unanswered points to get the win. The deciding play was a safety late in the game to take a 2-point lead.
#21 Georgia defeated South Carolina 41-37 – So much for a defensive battle. This game was back and forth the entire way, and it ended when the Georgia defense made a goal-line stand with 22 seconds left. The Bulldogs escaped with the win despite the Gamecocks controlling the ball for 10 more minutes with 10 more first downs than Georgia.
#22 Nebraska defeats Arkansas State 38-9 – Zac Lee spread the ball around to 11 different receivers, throwing for 340 yards and two touchdowns in the process. In fact, by game’s end 14 different players had at least one reception.
#23 Cincinnati defeats Southeast Missouri State 70-3 – Left off of the Top 25 polls in the preseason, the Bearcats have taken it out on their first two opponents, outscoring Rutgers and SEMS 117-18. QB Tony Pike threw for 229 yards and three touchdowns, also running in a score.
#24 Kansas defeats UTEP 34-7 – The Kansas defense kept the Miners off of the scoreboard until the fourth quarter. Running back Jake Sharp led the way offensively with a 104 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
#25 Missouri defeats Bowling Green 27-20 – The Tigers stepped up in the second half to erase a 14-point deficit, scoring touchdowns on three consecutive drives in the third quarter. Running back Derrick Washington provided 120 rushing yards and the game-winning score.
