Colorado vs West Virginia Football Odds
Written September 30, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz
The 1-2 Colorado Buffaloes travel to Morgantown Thursday night to face a very good West Virginia who are coming off a bye week which gave them plenty of time to rest. Colorado started off their 2009 campaign with horrible losses home vs. Colorado State and then got smoked at Toledo 54-38. Last weekend they notched their first win of the year home vs. Wyoming. Quarterback Cody Hawkins, son of head coach Dan Hawkins, has been very inconsistent from day one. He has thrown for 753 yards but has only completed 52% of his passes. Cody has also thrown five touchdowns to 4 interceptions. The running game has been a non factor so far for Colorado as starting running back Rodney Stewart has collected 165 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns in three games combined. Keep in mind that the three games were against defensive units such as Colorado State, Wyoming and Toledo. The bright light for the Buffaloes is their big threat junior receiver Scotty McKnight who has caught 20 passs for 227 yards and 2 TDs in three games. The defense will be the talk of the town headed into this game due to the lack of experience Colorado has to bring. Four starters return on defense total with not one of them being on the defensive line. So how will head coach Dan Hawkins defend lightning rod running back Noel Devine and multi threat QB Jarrett Brown? we shall see, I sure don’t know how that will work. Colorado does have a solid secondary led by senior cornerback Cha’pelle Brown who will be the x-factor for them tonight as his big play capability is going to be essential. Wide receiver Scotty McKnight will also have opportunities down the field against an average Mountaineers secondary. The current college football odds list West Virginia as a 17 point favorite over Colorado with the total placed at 53 points.

The West Virginia Mountaineers are 2-1 on the season and if anybody saw the game against Auburn on September 19th, you would know they should be 3-0 if it weren’t for six total turnovers, five being interceptions and one being a fumble lost. They are led by one of the nation’s most explosive players in running back Noel Devine who has rushed for 320 yards and 5 TDs averaging 6.3 yards per carry. QB Jarrett Brown has thrown for 798 yards and five touchdowns to five interceptions while also rushing for 208 yards and a TD on the ground. The guy who seems to get lost in the mix to the public eye is junior #1 wide receiver Jock Sanders who has totaled 29 receptions for 309 yards and one touchdown in his first three games this year. Those three right their could drive you crazy all game long. If the offense executes properly then they will be able to move the ball however and whenever they please. On the defensive side their are plenty of question marks. The Mountaineers gave up 400 total Yards to Auburn and 299 yards against Divison II Liberty in week one. The secondary is small and has gotten beat on the deep ball often. Tonight they face an extremely dynamic receiver in Scotty McKnight who they better be ready for. The x-factor for West Virginia will be starting safeties Robert Sands and Sidney Glover, their task will be to prevent Colorado quarterback Cody Hawkins from completing the long ball on them. If WV can avoid the quick strike against them and make The Buffaloes drive the ball down the field, then they will have this game in hand by halftime, if they sleepwalk like they have done many times before on defense, then not only can Colorado cover, but they can steal a win on the road.
