Colt’s Caldwell Not Worried About Losing Game

Written December 29, 2009 by Jason Lowry

The Indianapolis Colts are no longer perfect and head coach Jim Caldwell doesn’t seem to mind. According to ESPN, Caldwell is not second guessing his decision to take out key players agaisnt the New York Jets last week. The Colts were ahead 15-10 with just a little over five minutes to go in the third quarter, when Caldwell pulled Peyton Manning and company.

The Colts were just two games away from a perfect regular season, and their 23 game regular season win streak was snapped. Many believe that the Colts owed it to their fans and the NFL to try and win last week and keep the possibility of a perfect season alive. Also, teams like Pittsburgh and Houston now have a tougher road to the postseason, as the Jets can steal the final spot with a win.

There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to why you should rest your players, and if I was Caldwell I likely would have done the same thing. Fans need to realize that a Super Bowl win is more important than going 16-0.

Be sure to keep a close eye on the NFL odds over the next couple of days, as the Colts are unlikely to play their starters much if at all in week 17. Backup quarterback Curtis Painter did not look good in his first NFL action, and will likely get another shot this weekend when the Colts head to Buffalo to take on the Bills.
